Well, think about it. Compare an album like St. Anger to Master of Puppets. Their old stuff was so complex and, in lack of a better word, smart. The arrangements were brilliant, the instrumentation was amazing, and the lyrics were inspired. These days, their music is so simplified and generic. I don't mean they have to have guitar solos, but it certainly adds color to the music and better than playing a million same-sounding downtuned riffs. And the drums are even worse. Sounds like Lars in banging on a tin can.
You know I really have to agee with you man.

and militia, lars is good but I wouldn't call him amazing.
granted he is much better then me but if I'm in the mood for good
drumming I'll listen to Lambardo...er how ever you spell it.

Joe. thanks for you're imput man, is the Line 6 the one you recorded
FTB on?

and how is that equipment you got off MM

ah i didn't say lars was the BEST....with merely a touch of arrogancy i can say that i can do just about everything he can do. i do agree that dave lombardo is a better drummer. however, lars ulrich (not saying dave isnt) was very good at making his drum patterns, although thunderous, tie in perfectly and etherealy if thats a word to james, kirk, and burton's playing. and newsted. now he just does regular old beats and they dont match the music...in my opinion.

Claptondude 10-02-2005 10:17 PM

I like to put my EQ at like 7 10 3 and then put the guitar on treble. Its a beautiful sound. Metallica rules. My favorite song is Fade to Black and next is either Four Horsemen or Seek and Destroy. Later

metalmilitia101 10-02-2005 10:44 PM

yeah i think fade to black is my fav too, its very lovely. although sanitarium is good too...well not as good as fade to black.

hetfieldfan86 10-03-2005 12:25 AM

I think Sanitarium is better personally, it starts off al mild w/ the intro solo...then picks up w/ the chorus and ends just huge w/ the heavy PM riffs and harmonic solos. I think its maybe like their best recording after MOP. ROCK ON!!! and btw, i'm lookin to get my first tube amp and I'm thinkin between a MESA Recto-verb or an Orange AD30 combo. Definitely goin for a sound between liek Zakk Wyld eand METALLICA.

I like how the song has 4 solos in it. Thats hot. :thumb:

Enlighten Me 10-03-2005 02:52 AM

Yep, Sanitarium is a great song...

You see, Metallica has different types of fans.
Hardcore fans buy all their albums reguardless of how they sound, just cuz its Metallica.
Then you have other fans who appreciate their good music...
When i think of Metallica i think of Kill Em All - Black Album(Garage was.. OK), the rest of their stuff just can't compare, and i don't know if they will produce another album anytime soon but sadley i just can't see it being anything close to their old stuff. :\

Chu 10-03-2005 03:58 AM
Hey Chu, why don't you have an avatar?
Can't be bothered, cause the one time I did decide to get an avatar, it ****ed me over

Thor 10-03-2005 05:29 AM
yeah i think fade to black is my fav too, its very lovely. although sanitarium is good too...well not as good as fade to black.
Fade to Black was Metallica's best ballad, but I think their best heavy song was Blackened. :thumb:

Can't really argue with that.

yeah blackened is sweet. and i agree with ^^ enlighten me up there that metallica has different types of fans...it breeds contention but i think that is part of the reason why metallica is such a wonderful and inventive band. there's some metallica for everyone...for the thrash/metal fans theres kill em all and the early albums, for alternative fans there's load and reload, for more heavy metal fans there's st anger, for country fans haha i guess they could listen to tuesday's gone, ronnie, and some of the songs off reload, load, and garage. and oh yeah...nothing for pop fans because their gay anyway.

Jev 10-03-2005 08:53 AM

I think Damage Inc. is their best song.

metalmilitia101 10-03-2005 10:50 AM

yeah thats a good one too....another reason why i can't choose my favorite.

Jev 10-03-2005 11:05 AM

Wow, my post looked so retarded. I meant best heavy song.

BassRob 10-03-2005 11:27 AM
Wow, my post looked so retarded. I meant best heavy song.
yeah damage inc rules and battery does

Jev 10-03-2005 11:48 AM

I've kinda gone off battery. It's probably from listening to it so much when I attempted to learn it.

Munky's avatar was pretty cool. You know, the one with the mouse.

Any ways I like the sound of the scooped tone. I think maybe it has to do with the speakers of your amp as to whether or not the scooped tone sounds good. I had a 10 watt marshall that it sounded horrible on, but my new line 6 spider sounds killer with that kind of sound. (and the clean tone sounds better as well). I use the eq at (tre.:6 bass:10 and mid: 3). Add some heavy palm muting and your rhythms sound like the ones off of Megadeths Kick the Chair. Very Kick@$$

Britton 10-03-2005 11:50 AM

I havn't tried to learn it yet but i've heard it's a mother.

I know the acoustic intro

Actually the first lead fill is easier than it sounds ie:

e:---------12-|-----17p12-15p12-14p12----12--| (I think you play this
b:-15b(17)----|-------------------------15-----| 4x's)
g:------------|o-------------------------------o|
d:------------|o-------------------------------o|
a:------------|---------------------------------|
e:------------|---------------------------------|

I tried learning it after 3 months of playing.
I tried learning it after 3 months of playing.
Well that's why you didn't quite get it. I can't really bash you for this 'cuz after I was playing for three months I was trying to do MOP.

Britton 10-03-2005 12:02 PM

I was trying MOP after 2 and it took about that long to learn it

Jev 10-03-2005 12:03 PM

I still haven't fully learnt MOP, I could never be bothered.

lightningmetal666 10-03-2005 12:05 PM
I was trying MOP after 2 and it took about that long to learn it
If you can play MOP, then you can definitely play Battery. Just to start off try learning that fill I gave you. (a couple posts up)

Jev 10-03-2005 12:10 PM

I miss those days of failing miserably at Metallica.

Britton 10-03-2005 12:10 PM

If it were not for Metallica and hendrix I would not have ever picked up a guitar

Hey can ya'll give me some imput in my thread?

sorry for the spam

Shadows Within 10-03-2005 12:13 PM

the only song i know most of it sanatarium

lightningmetal666 10-03-2005 12:14 PM

Chances are, every metalhead has tried to rush into that song. I can't understand why. Now that I look back at how crappy I was then and how much better I am now..... I weep for my lack of intelligence.

The tempo is well over 200bpm and the whole song is like 8 minutes long +. WTF was I thinking trying to learn that song after only 3 months. :upset:
