I cant believe townshend has no votes.
I went lifeson...id really like to see him advance. Page is gonna dominate...even though this should be a close poll NP: Xanadu |
I voted for Stills. All the little Zep n00bs.
Last night on PBS they were selling some sixties DVD type thing. They showed clips of various sixties bands, and Steppenwolf was like the live guest. They rocked out pretty hard and sounded very good for how long they've been doing this. I'm not actually sure how many of them are from the original band...it might only be John Kay.
But anyways...their keyboard player was phenomenal. No one else was doing anything very impressive at all, but man that keyboard player was playing some crazy stuff. Unfortunately, John Kays guitar was turned up louder than any other instrument, even though he barely played anything. Anyone know who this keyboard player could be? Definitely not one of the original members of Steppenwolf (I'm 99% sure)
I'm not sure what his name is either but when I saw them live he wore his keyboard like a guitar, it was cool. |

bah if steve howe and pete townshend don't advance... i will lose all faith in this forum.

Pete Townshend is the least talented player out of them all.
Pete Townshend is the least talented player out of them all.
talent wise, maybe. but song writing and influence, man none of them come close... |
Pete Townshend is the least talented player out of them all.
I don't know who Chris Poland is but your probably right. |
It was sure a tough decision, for me, between Johnny Winter and Steven Stills. I went with Winter because I think he's a better guitar player. :(
edit: as opposed to writing and singing |
I don't know who Chris Poland is but your probably right.
He use to play for Megadeth.
talent wise, maybe. but song writing and influence, man none of them come close...
No, he is technically the worst guitarist on the list, and there are songwriters of that list that are almost/as good as Townshend; Stephen Stills for example. |
I went with Steve.

No, he is technically the worst guitarist on the list, and there are songwriters of that list that are almost/as good as Townshend; Stephen Stills for example.
i did recognize that technique he is the worst, however i said in terms of both song writing and influence he is unmatched there. for instance, stills can write probably as well as him, but stills does not have ANYWHERE NEAR the influence he does. also page has had just as big if not bigger an influence than townshend, but page is not nearly as good a songwriter. i love his work but he's not as good as townshend... |
Pete Townshend is the least talented player out of them all.
Yeah but he deserves more then zero. |
Yeah but he deserves more then zero.
as does robert randolph |
The only thing Townsend is good at is at rhythm guitar (guitar-wise). I never liked him.

I agree with this statement. So, the John Butler Trio is awesome. Not classic rock, but I think most of you would enjoy them. |
as does robert randolph
Dancin' Man voted for Robert Randolph! There's still some justice in this world. :thumb: I, on the other hand...feel kinda bad for voting for Page, since I knew he would probably win anyways. |
Stills needs more votes pronto.

Sorry to change the subject, but...
The other night I watched "A Concert for George" on PBS (Thank God that at least one TV station has some taste in music), and it was all George Harrison's songs being played by his friends. Eric Clapton put the whole thing together, and they had Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on the same stage for the first time in thirty years (it was recorded one year after George's death - 11/29/02), and on top of that they had Danny Harrison (George's kid - who kicks serious *** on the guitar) playing with them. I about came in my pants. It was wonderful. |
Ya I've been watching PBS quite often lately. I didn't even realize I got that channel up until a few months ago. They always have good music on that channel.
I watched Claptons Crossroads Festival, Sounds of the 60's, and A Concert for George in the past week or so. |
My friends always talk about the crossroads festival, and my dad wouldnt shut up about how great the George Concert was. He said he wouldve bought it, but it cost like, $200.
I really want to get the crossroads festival and live-aid. But when im flicking through and i even see them jazz/blues guitarist, their frikkin awsome. their about 15 minutes sessions with the guitarist going at it the whole time. It really is awsome |

You just gotta keep your eyes open. I never know when the concerts are on, but if I'm flipping through the channels it usually catches my eye. Everytime you turn on your TV, pay a visit to PBS once or twice. |
Yea, I know how do you get all these good shows on PBS.
I get teletubbies..:( |

I do but there never there. Maybe Cause I'm eastern timezone. :upset: |
I saw Trey Anastasio, part of The Grateful Dead Movie, and The 60's Experience on PBS. Wilco is gonna be on this Saturday.
Does anyone know the name of that book about the acid tests? I think Badmoon and Schyma were talking about it. Dead thread :( NP: The Grateful Dead-Dark Star |
how many times must i save this thread?
Dark Star's a good song. Ive never heard it studio, but ive heard it live during an innovative session. Comes in around 23:30 minutes. Doesnt lose my attention for one second either |
I do but there never there. Maybe Cause I'm eastern timezone. :upset:
if ur in the eastern time zone (i am too) the concerts are generally on very late. like around midnight |
Are you talking about the version on Live/Dead? That's the version I was listening too, but I decided to skip ahead to St. Stephen.
EDIT: To Distant Echoes |
Does anyone know the name of that book about the acid tests? I think Badmoon and Schyma were talking about it.
Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. I Am Jimmy Page has read it, I think. P.S. "Dark Star" has never been recorded by the Grateful Dead. |
