I just posted a new thread about this, but has anyone noticed that bands like APC and Tool are becoming rare? Metal is getting too far into that screaming ****, and it annoys me.
Tool and APC aren't really metal.

You also have the choice to listen to something else if growling bothers you that much.

Spiritofmosa 05-10-2006 10:09 PM

^ yeap metal is getting bland imo

Well I know I'm not putting it down, and they both aren't metal but thay have certain characteristics of metal, which is why I classified them as that. I just feel that good solid bands like that are becoming extict.

AdventEnd 05-10-2006 10:16 PM

Lmao. That was great. I'm diggin' the Tool shirt with the tie.

what distorted guitars? Thats all they have in common with metal.

Check out Porcupine Tree, ELP, Rush, Genesis, Camel, Cog, Deadsoul tribe, King Crimson, Dredg, Zappa, GORDIAN KNOT (Check them out!), Spocks Beard, Riverside, Ulver.

I would say Cynic, Death, and Opeth...But they have growls.

You should advise him against early Ulver.

Good point. I seriously dont see any point in not liking something just because of the vocals. If Instrumentation is good I like it.

Neither do I. I am also willing to bet he thinks that growling is an illegitimate form of vocals.

Okay, take your very favourite song. Now, take out whatever vocals are in that song, and replace them with a baby squalling throughout the entire song. Do you still enjoy the song in spite of the new "vocals"?

Personally for me, nothing ruins a song more easily than really bad vocals, or a vocal style I just personally can't stand.

To a point I understandwhere you are coming from. But seriously a baby squealing would be the most original thing in a while.

For the record there was a time I didn't enjoy death growls. Thank god that passed over.

Riva 05-11-2006 01:25 AM

It depends for me. A lot of the time, I find that despite the vocals, I might like the music so much that I stop even paying attention to the singer. At other times, I just can't bear to listen to an album when the vocalist is clearly the most annoying/untalented person in music today.

Hey now, Cesaro Summability is my favourite Tool song.

Me too, I also thank God I got over them, otherwise my musical taste would be half as diverse as it is now.

"After completing a round of American dates later this month and ensuing tours of Europe and Japan, [Tool] will return to the States in the fall."

FFS they are skipping Australia on the first round, that sucks so much balls, bloody yanks get everything

taylormemer 05-11-2006 08:16 AM

Yeah, they usually do.

kurrpt 05-11-2006 08:22 AM

i bummed i wont see these guys next week in Philly. I refuse to pay more than 100 bucks for a ticket, so it appears that way :upset:

Prince of Darkness 05-11-2006 09:39 AM

Tell me guys, what are my chances of seeing Tool live when I'm in New York in December? I'll also be in London...Is there any chance of seeing them live?

Out of those bands which are their respectively best albums..?

It's nothing like that, really. To me, the music and the vox should work as one continuous piece. Hell, there are bands out there that I like were the vocals would make a person stick a hot poker in their ears (e.i. TMV, Rush, QotSA, SoaD, Pat Matheny), but the vocals work perfectly with the music. If the vocals are just s h i t, and doesn't mix well with the music, I'll get that hot poker ready..

I think the most annoying thing is when a person is growling about his last birthday party. I mean f u c k...was it that bad, or did the cheese tray give you fierce constipation..? If the music and the song calls for it, by all means, but if your just doing it because you can't sing or you want to fit into a specific genre, then you're doing it for the wrong reasons..

clearvision 05-11-2006 11:34 AM
You should REALLY check out this band called Jesu. Their newest EP 'Silver' is brilliant, kinda like Isis i suppose that kinda post metal sound but with nice vocals :)

And this tour is just tool.

And AJIG i have a mogwai album 'young team' but am not that impressed. Anychance i'd like any of their other stuff. I just was pretty bored listening to the one i have..
My whole post got igored i think :-/
