Sorry, but can you name just a few good songs from the Whoracle and Colony era ?
Because well at least for me itīs pretty generic and boring nu metal....but check it out also. For the Whoracle and Colony era check out: Moonshield December Flower Jotun Zombie Inc Dialogue With The Stars Episode 666 The Jester's Dance Swim Satellites And Astronauts Pinball Map |
Ok, Thanks Txus.
|
Thanks for the last page suggestoins, I'll be checking out Dissection first.
|
well i am a big fan of opeth but they are the only death metal band that i like so far and i am interested in hearing more music like them, so what would be some good specific songs/albums/bands to check out?
|
Death is probably the best band to start on. Symbolic, Individual Thought Patterns or The Sound Of Perseverance I would recommend as first albums from them.
Also, Bloodbath is a good one to start on, and the first album has Mikeal on it so you'll be used to the vocals already. |
Also if you want to check out a band similar to Opeth, check out Novembre and The Provenance.
|
Add to that list, Katatonia's album Brave Murder Day (Akefeldt did guest vocals on certain parts...older, Morningriseish style) and Novembers Doom.
|
alright thanks, ive actually heard a few death songs before before, and i will check out bloodbath, novembre, and the provenence :)
i've also heard dark tranquility mentioned a lot with opeth. are they worth hearing too? |
I've never heard of Dark Tranquillity being mentioned alongside Opeth (aside from the fact that they're touring together), but Dark Tranquillity is the single greatest Gothenburg metal band ever. Get Character, one of the best albums I've ever heard. You won't regret it.
|
Dark Tranquillity is the single greatest Gothenburg metal band ever.
Quoted for 100% truth. |
The only Dark Tranquility ive heard is "lost to apathy" and its freaking amazing. On the subject, can anyone recommend me some gothenburg bands?

At the Gates Dark Tranquility Those are the only two I find myself ever coming back to as of late. |

Hmmm, check out: Arch Enemy In Flames Soilwork Suidakra Those are the only ones I can think of at the moment. |

At The Gates In Flames Arch Enemy http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=422679 That thread has some good info on those bands. |
Thanks :)

I'm looking to get into Kalmah more. I have Hades already, can anyone else upload some of their best songs?
Thanks. |
Opeth
definitely NOT death metal. You may like Farmakon and Disillusion as well. |

CAn anyone recommend me some melodic death metal that isnt to harsh and is totally awsome.
Also dont recommend me any gothenburg stuff. Thanks :chug: |
Amon Amarth
Arch Enemy At The Gates Atrocity Beyond Shadows Callenish Circle Carcass (Heartwork and Swansong albums) Ceremonial Oath Dark Tranquillity Darkane Dimension Zero Edge of Sanity Entombed Eternal Tears of Sorrow Exhalted Hypocrisy In Flames Insomnium Kalmah Mercenary Mors Principium Est Nightrage Norther Noumena Omnium Gatherum Opeth Sentenced Soilwork SuidAkrA Unanimated That's a list from Wikipedia. |
A lot of that is gothenburg though.
If you're looking for less harsh stuff, gothenburg is probably your best bet, however. If you don't care about harshness, a couple of my favorite melodic death bands (I'm really picky about it) are: Carcass Intestine Baalism Eucharist Autumn Leaves |
My favourite Melodic Death band is Arghoslent by far. Eucharist and Intestine Baalism are good too.
|
Arsis would do as well :)
Amon Amarth (Good Melodic Death with Epic feeling)
Arch Enemy (Gothenburg Metal) At The Gates (Good Gothenburg) Atrocity (band that changes its style all the time) Beyond Shadows Callenish Circle Carcass (Good Melodic death) Ceremonial Oath (old Gothenburg) Dark Tranquillity (Good Gothenburg metal) Darkane (isn't it Thrash/Death metal?! I would say neo-thrash that reminds me of gothenburg) Dimension Zero (same as above) Edge of Sanity (Melodc Death) Entombed Eternal Tears of Sorrow Exhalted Hypocrisy (Death metal, you could say they're melodic though) In Flames (Gothenburg Metal, later works give a bad name to the scene) Insomnium Kalmah (sound like CoB) Mercenary Mors Principium Est Nightrage (Gothenburg Metal) Norther (sound like CoB) Noumena Omnium Gatherum Opeth (progressive death metal, I would say extreme progressive metal) Sentenced (gothic metal) Soilwork (Gothenburg Metal) SuidAkrA (Folk Death Metal?) I'm fucking sick of people treating Gothenburg as seperate to Melodic Death.
It's like treating Bay-Area thrash as something different to Thrash, when it shouldn't be. |

Yeah that's ok, but I get annoyed when people call it 'Gothenburg Metal'. I would rather people just called it all Melodic Death though, since it seems some people just so that other people don't associate In Flames and the like with their precious "real" melodic death.
I still <3 you though orestes :P |
It's a handy little distinction, but that's about it.
Anyway, Arghoslent all the way. |
