So this week at school is spirit week and each day you're supposed to dress up like something or other. Tomorrow all the different classes are supposed to wear a certain kind of shirt. Seniors have collered shirts, sophomores have jerseys, etc. The Juniors(me) are supposed to wear a college shirt. I could have easily gotten a Villanova one (my brother goes there) but I decided to be a huge douchebag and make this instead.
I've been wanting to start my own denim DIY jacket for a while, but, i'm actually going to start putting this dream into action within the next few days. I have a paint question:
What kind of paint should I use? I would prefer something that can resist the wash and something that can be removed with paint thinner (although I think paint thinner takes out all paints). If such a thing doesn't exist, just recommend me the best paint to be used on a denim. Finally, i'd prefer not using spray-paint, so please suggest something other than that. I'm looking to free-hand most all of it, so, your help would be much appriciated punks! Once I get this into action, i'll post pictures frequently of my progress.
Well I use water based screen printing ink, which works well and dosen't wash out if you iron it (this is the ink some patches are made with, so if you buy a screen and a squegee you can make patches too). I think some kinds of fabric ink would work as well, I just haven't had any experience with any. |
Anyone have the DIY site with the title "Just because it's DIY doesn't mean it sucks" in their bookmarks? I've been searching for awhile but can't find it, and remember it had some good advice.

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/9896/officialcollege8qf.jpg
College shirt day? that's pretty lame. Makes me appreciate 80's day, despite nearly everyone dressing in crap they found at goodwill, thinking that dumb and extremely bright clothes define the 80's. I dressed like a punk, in my mom's clothes from the 80's. |
Thanks a bunch for the link INH.
I just spraypainted the first logo on my leather jacket. So far my plans include; putting leopard print fabric on the collar, probably either an Angelic Upstarts or Oxymoron patch for the back. Nile is on the bottom in gold, and Iniquity will probably go on top. Chaok UK patch is already on, Death on the right shoulder to come, maybe Dew-Scented on the left arm, and I'll go from there. |
Oxymoron is such a quality band.
|
They do indeed hold my interest.
Something to actually contribute to the thread: Spray paint works fine for stenciling logos. And it has a great upside as well. If you just want to use computer paper, don't worry about the paint getting under flaps from the logo. Use tape donuts to keep them from getting too out of place, and spray lightly. After approx 25-30 mins, go and check if it's dry. If so, take off the stencil. If you want to touch it up, use a plain old eraser. It really helped me to distinguish between some of the letters. |
Or if tape doghnuts don't work, get double stick tape and put it either really close to the edges. I've found double stick tape to work extremel well; it's one of the things I always have in making stencils.
I hope that's a joke
No, but it's also just a plan. Chances are I'll get lazy and won't feel like putting it on anyways. Even if I end up putting it on; to each their own. I've never personally seen anyone have this before outside of the intranet so as far as I can tell it's not like it's some huge thing. |

Very true. |

Same goes for the zebra prints and all of those other moronic fabrics. |
Does anyone have a link to J Atomic's website?
|
I had it bookmarked on my old computer, which is no use to either of us, but I'm currently talking to him on AIM, so I'll ask.

Thank you. I had it on my old computer too.

My school is having a spirit week. They're so dumb. I think Monday is PJ day. I'll be sure to skip that one. I might have to mock one of the others though.

why not just post it in here, i dont think just a DIY hair thread would go very far and stay alive, we dont get many questions in here about hair..so i dont think it deserves its own thread |
I could give a tutorial on how to put a really high mohawk up.

"d00d lolz how do u spiek a mohawkz!!!?!1?1//"
On the contrary, I think "how to spike your hair" is a good question. |
1 get some gel
2 put some on your hand 3 run hands through hair 4 spike and style as desired i sound like the back of a gel container |
On the contrary, I think "how to spike your hair" is a good question.
Not when asked every 25 posts when techniques have been said 50 times with no one bothering to search. |
1 get some gel
It is SO much more complicated then that.
Not really, that's how I did mine when I had a 'hawk. I used hair glue instead of gel though. |
well not when its more than 4 inches long, any kind of solid stuff will make it look retarded. if you're doing it by yourself you have to set down your blowdryer, spray, bend over, and smash your hair together while the blowdryer is drying. once you get used to it it takes anywhere between 10-20 minutes
|
I have a 13 inch mohawk, Trust me, It takes alot more then just gel.

Everyone who's bothered by questions about hair, note that there is no informative website that is very helpful. If you're that bothered, put one together and provide people with the link to it. |
I'm sure you could find something.
|
Hair that takes 10-20 minutes to fix is just not worth it.
