hello all, i stumbled into this forum and was really intrigued and impressed.. a lot more mature and fun than the other forums (and better music....IMHO)
.../ to tangy zizzle who mentioned nick drake way back.. you rock!
On to the music.. i've become an cd junkie lately. thats where all my money goes:
-Interpol: both cds, = fantastic
-Wilco: yankee foxtrot hotel
-Broken Social Scene = you forgot it in people = my favorite cd this year.. recommended songs for first time listeners : almost crimes, looks just like the sun, cause = time
-Nick Drake = pink moon = his last and (IMHO) his best cd before he died of anti-depressant overdose in his late 20s. very emotional and moving
-And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead = source tags and codes
-Death From Above 1979 =You're a Woman I'm a Machine : really fun cd
-Beck = Odelay : terrific, but you already knew that
-Radiohead = Ok Computer, Hail to the Thief, Kid A = intense, going to buy Amnesiac next
-the Arcade Fire = Funeral : if you know the story behind their cd, it makes makes an already great cd even better
-TV on the Radio = Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes : bizzare and addictive
The Dears = No Cities Left
Modest Mouse = the Moon and Antarctica : float never really caught me, but this cd is just mesmerizing
the Black Keys = Rubber Factory
Notwist = Neon Golden

question for all.. is the Stills cd (Logic will break your heart) worth buying? I really enjoy "love and death", but their other songs are.. alright.
thanks!
ps if anyone wants song recommendations, let me know

Minutemen
They Might Be Giants
Fishbone
Camper Van Beethoven (Key Lime Pie is so amazing)

Erik B. & Rakim - Paid in Full

I don't know how many of you guys are into hip-hop and rap, but this album is classic and a definite must-have.

Malpractice9, I have to argue with you about best Nick Drake albums, and put Bryter Later on top. Of course every single one of his recordings are amazing, I enjoy the jazzy sounds and experimentation on his sophomore album.

Once again I encourage anyone who's into alt/indie rock to try and hunt down The Amazing Verticalville's album. I might get annoying pushing this CD, but they deserve more popularity, 'cause they just rock...so hard.

i personally came to know nick drake backwards (pink moon, bryter layter, five leaves), however after hearing that album i couldn't shake the heartache he felt over the lack of success of his previous albums. The other cds offer a more dynamic and intricate sound, but pink moon.. is just so real. I can't overlook the context. His defences have broken down and he's about to fall. His singing and guitar are both haunting and bare.
End point: all his cds are works of art.

current song: things behind the sun by drake

wheelz 02-28-2005 11:34 PM

it really is a shame he was never around to see how much people ended up appreciating his music.

about 8 of Fu Manchu's albums

KappaKid17 03-01-2005 01:35 PM

I've been diggin' Blur a lot lately. Funny thing is that I've had about 3 of their albums for a good years, and never paid too much attention except to Parklife.

baseline87 03-01-2005 03:14 PM

I've been kicking out to the Zutons recently

I still listen to it, allthough it's not what I listen to the most. Anymore.

Right now I'm digging a tribute to Lenord Cohen. John Cales version of Hallelujah is brilliant.
