I'm going to try and see them in either Dublin or Paris. Still trying to persuade my best friend to come with me...

Hi, this is my first (or second, I left my forum account sitting for a long, long time) time posting. I've found some pretty cool/odd Metallica covers, for anyone interested. The first is a group called Apocalyptica, a classically trained string quartet from Finland. In 1996, they released an album called "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" which has covers of Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, and Sad but True, as well as five other songs. They have also released two more cover cds, Cult and Inquisition Symphony, which does have a number of Metallica covers, but also has covers of bands such as Pantera and Faith no More. The second weird cover I have found is by the bluegrass group Iron Horse. It's Metallica played in true bluegrass form with acoustic guitar, mandolins and acoustic bass, without drums. It's a pretty interesting experience listening to Metallica's songs in such a fashion.

yeah the bluegrass stuff us pretty neet. But that's just me, I dig bluegrass.

Mike the 'Tender 05-05-2004 11:58 AM

Bluegrass is pretty cool, personally (check out Del Curry or Sam Bush), my CD collection ranges from Metallica to BB King, Wagner (Ride of the Valkyries) to Toby Keith and everything in between, but, as I quote one of my friends, "I'm on a different wave length".

Burdcheese 05-05-2004 01:52 PM

I always meant to investigate Apocalyptica, but never got round to it... well nows the time.
Because you touch yourself at night.

Anyways, I'm seeing Metallica next October (I know, it's quite a ways off, still…), and I'm really looking forward to it. From what I've heard, they put on one hell of a live show.
Wow.... Real original.... A Family Guy quote.... Let me be the first to give you a bravo.... I'd even begin to CONSIDER that an insult if I didn't promptly bring up the fact, in my mind, that you're the one wasting good money to see a no-talent shit band. And... A good show??? You can go see a good show at cineplexodeon and it WON'T cost you whatever the hell you're paying to see metassica live. It won't come with a kick-ass soundtrack nor will your metallica show. I saw Iron Maiden live a couple of months ago... Now THAT is a killer concert. Quality music and quality performance. As for your band..... well.... I'm sorry for you.

Endless Obsession 05-05-2004 02:54 PM

This is my first message in this thread but i am a huge metallica fan. I am seing them in September in Cleveland. My favorite songs are depending on what mood i am in...fade to black, one, creeping death, master of puppets, sanitarium, seek and destroy, hit the lights, ride the lightning (very underrated), blackened. And why would anyone say that Metallica is crap band if they are gonna post in this. (see last message). See ya.

and I'm sorry for you too... Go bash on other thread... If you don't like Metallica, you shouldn't read this thread... I don't like Britney Spears nor Eminem, so you won't see me bitching at them on their forums or threads...

I'm a huge Metallica fan since I was 4/5 years old, thanks to my cousins. I'm European and they influeneced me and give me the will to pick up an instrument and play. I play guitar since September (although my first option was bass, I'm still to find out why the hell did I change... I really like bass :P)

Endless Obsession 05-05-2004 03:06 PM

Good call serte. You proved my point.

Well u should. I do. If you think I'm gonna leave you alone because u think I like *** bands just because I know that you do, you are sadly mistaken. How u could think metallica is good is beyond me. You could try to bash my favorite bands on their threads but u wouldn't be able to because they have talent as apposed to other bands whose names I will not mention.... *Metallica. They have little to no rhythm section, terrible guitar and horrible vocals. So let's dedicate an entire thread to them... Hurrah!!! (Sarcasm) Anyways I think thats all I really wanted to say about this **** band. I'll talk to you as soon as you reply to this one. HUTTAH!

If I took it "elsewhere" noone would care.

Burdcheese 05-05-2004 03:17 PM

We still don't care. If you continue to post here with your only purpose being to insult bands and other members of the forum, you are on your way to a swift banning of some form.

TheZenBassist 05-05-2004 03:18 PM

Ooooooh... band from a METALLICA thread Im so worried....
Ooooooh... band from a METALLICA thread Im so worried....
Actually, you would be banned from all forums:).And we all appreciate (well, maybe not all,but whatever  ) you giving your opinion about Metallica, but would you do me one favor. You say Metallica sucks, but that's just your opninion,so would you please say 'i think metallica sucks'.Thanks.Just because you don't like them isn't a reason the rest of the world shouldn't.

fadetoblack03 05-05-2004 03:32 PM

I love all of Metallica's work, I think everyone of their songs is a classic, that was true until i got to Load and Reload, i love Load barring a couple of songs (i know them by ear not name heheh) and for Reload i love a select few songs but not the rest, then St Anger... I think thats a great album, the no solos thing doesn't bother me, the only real thing that does is the length of the songs, it wouldnt be a problem if they didnt just cut up parts of the song and repeat them to make it longer, in all honesty this album could be like Reign In Blood or Onedice's "Life" for length.

Invisible Kid is the only poor track on there for me.

As a guitarist too, they are or were the main stuff i learn on guitar, its fun to play and Kirks solos are really difficult for a beginner, yet you want to be able to play them so u aspire to it.

Hetfield's voice has gone way downhill nowadays, but i saw this program called Headliners on C4 over here in the UK and his voice was great (it was last year about this time), so why cant he keep it like that?

IMO In Flames are the new Metallica, I just get that impression, they seem to have left their roots and gone on an artistic exploration, while keeping the music really **** good, albeit not as recognised.

Long post lol

I can just imagine Metallica's next album to be an all out metal feast, like bands like Exodus and Anthrax are producing nowadays (Tempo Of The ****ed) and even Slayer, i'm not sure why but I can just see them surprising everyone and absolutely beating the **** out of the current metal industry.

I hope it comes true:d

withoutaname_KsE 05-05-2004 03:33 PM

metallica sucks

Ah, an Iron Maiden fan.

Well, that explains it.

Endless Obsession 05-05-2004 04:27 PM

Zen, why would you even come here if you are gonna bash Metallica? Its not like its cool or funny. Just stop.
I always meant to investigate Apocalyptica, but never got round to it... well nows the time.
They are amazing for the songs they do, and even if you don't like bluegrass, check out the Iron Horse album. They have some grade A musicians doing Metallica's songs, and it's pretty crazy to hear Kirk and James's guitar riffs being played on a acoustic guitar and mandolin. The one thing that I don't like about Fade to Bluegrass is that they use a traditional bluegrass bassline, which is very simplistic, compared to the more complex riffs created by Newstead and Burton.

I've been given a Master of Puppets video by Dream Theater. Anyone know where it's from?

superpeer 05-05-2004 04:31 PM

I wonder when they're gonna assign a new Rock & Metal moderator. :-/

Mike the 'Tender 05-05-2004 04:36 PM

rustinpuppets, Amen. withoutaname_KsE needs to be told the same. Well consider this being told.
