... wow you're stupid. it's just awe inspiring now. |
Kurrpt, being sarcastic xD?
|
no.
|
Okay, thanks :P.
|
Spat, you lose. Urbandictionary is obviously a very credible and professional source of information, what with descriptions like:
emceeing, which used to be shoutouts and such later evolved into 'rapping' and no thats not what 50 cent does because 50 cent is a sellout loser that sings bout his imagineary 'hoes'.
|
When hip-hop first emerged, it was about having fun and proving yourself using clever sentences - rhythmically put together - said smoothly over 12-inch vinyl records spun on a disc jockey's turntables. Most critics believed that hip-hop was just going to be a fad in inner cities. Little did they know that it would become a worldwide multibillion-dollar enterprise.
What most people don't understand is that there is a big difference between rap and hip-hop. Rap is the combination of emceeing and DJing, but hip-hop possesses four main elements: graffiti, break dancing, emceeing and DJing. There are subelements, too, such as the way one walks, talks and lives. As KRS-1 says, ''Rap is something you do; hip-hop is something you live.''
maybe that will shut you nay-sayers up for a bit, but i doubt it |
You'd agree that graffiti and break dancing isn't making music?
Then you're left with hiphop as being a comination of emceeing and DJing. And rap music being a combination of... lo and behold! emceeing and DJing. So yeah:
Hip hop music and rap music are the same thing.
|
Hip-Hop is more like the scene or something that is all inclusive, or the life-style that goes along with it.
|
So hip-hop music and rap music are the same thing? If not, could you give me examples of some rap artists and some hip hop artists just to distinguish?
|
well, it differs depending on who you would ask. I tend to agree with KRS-1, since he basically named it, and was intricate in creating it as a genre, as well as a culture/lifestyle
examples of hip hop : Jurassic 5, De La Soul rap is more agressive, and would encompass artists like Eminem and Nas edit : subjectivity really should have nothing do with a definition |
how many times are you going to say "what" on one fukking page?
i can't believe you're a mod most of the time |
So Jurassic 5 isn't rap music?
|
Krups, you have no idea what you are talking about.
|
I could easily say the same thing about you
|
But that would be wrong.
|
you're hopeless

hip hop is a culture movement
Hip hop is a cultural movement that began among urban African Americans in New York City in the early 1970s, and has since spread around the world. Some consider beatboxing the fifth element of hip hop; others might add political activism, hip hop fashion, hip hop slang, double dutching (an urban form of rope skipping) or other elements as important facets of hip hop. The term has since come to be a synonym for hip hop music and rap to mainstream audiences. ...
|
rap is like part of the whole. Hip hop is "all inclusive"
i think that's the most simplified answer I can give ya |
thats like saying black metal and hardcore are the same thing. To people that know the differences, its a whole world of difference to them. To outsiders who aren't aware, they see it as synonymous with all types of metal.
thats essentially what you're doing |
alright, your turn to try to explain how they are one in the same
|
I'd like to add that Hip Hop Music and Rap Music are the same thing. Though, Rap AKA emceeing ( MC'ing) in itself is a subgenre of Hip Hop, the culture.
|
I'm not introducing new information.
|
Yes, 50Cent makes Hip Pop. Also, in multiple interviews 2Pac admits to perform "Rap". But I like to classify his music as Hip Hop.
|
So basically, you're full of bs
|
What's so contradicting?
Sepstrup, that was addressed to me? |
I give preference to the term Hip Hop.

Also:
What's funny about someone not being able to distinguish two music genres?

I'd like to add that Hip Hop Music and Rap Music are the same thing.
So yeah. Bs. |
No, point of discussion was, is Hip Hop the same as Rap, which is untrue, for Rap is a subgenre of the cultural movement; Hip Hop.
As I said, Hip Hop consists of Rap ( MC'ing), graffiti, DJ'ing etc. |
No, my position is still the same.
There are four fundamental elements in Hip Hop: * Hip hop dance: Breakdance and various forms of street dance * Hip hop art: Urban inspired art, often as graffiti * Hip hop music: DJing, beats and beatmaking, and hip hop production * Rapping: MCing and urban inspired poetry |
