I thought John saw Paul play with his band and he invited him to join the band, and then Paul introduced John to George. They didnt both meet him at the same time...in the Imagine documentary John says he picked paul as his partner not george, george came through paul.
Paul saw John perform and one of John's friend introduced him to Paul. John was impressed by Paul's playing and let him join the band. Later, Paul introduced John to George, and after George tried out, John also let him into the band.

100% True

And then George and Pual were a bit younger than John, so he was sort of a jerk to them in the beginning

How did Ringo get in? Why did they kick the other guy out?

bcf717 05-08-2005 04:40 PM

Pete Best wasn't a 'team' player. There are quite a few different reasons that have been stated over the years in different interviews and books. Which to really believe is up for grabs. Some reports state that John and Paul were jealous that the birds (chicks, girls) flocked to Pete and they didn't like the competition. Other reports state that Best was a loner in the sense that he didn't mix well with John and Paul in the camaraderie department. Still other reports site the new manager, Brian Epstein as not liking him, that he didn't fit the new image Epstein was molding for the group, and he was responsible for Best's ouster. ( Before Epstein, the Beatles were more Teddy Boy in look. Teddy boy was a British slang term for what we in the States referred to as 'Greasers' during the late 50's and early 60's. Picture leather jackets and slicked back hair styled in 'Ducktails' and you'll get an image of what they looked like on stage during the early days in the Cavern before their trip to Germany in 61. Their look was inspired by Marlon Brando in the movie 'The Wild Ones.' Epstein 'cleaned' them up, insisting on the matching attire and hair styles that made them famous. )
John and Paul had known Ringo when he was playing with 'Rory and the Hurricanes.' When they played the clubs and Rory was on the bill with them, Ringo would often sit in -- as Pete Best often could not be found for the gig at the last minute.
Whatever the reason for the replacement, Ringo did fit well, with his easy-going attitude, as well as his humor, matched with that of the band's humor of 'hey, we're not all that serious' that was prevalent in the early days. The Beatles constant statements about being dumbfounded and unbelieving of the magnitude of their early success, served ironically only to endear them to their fans even more so.

Very informative as always, bcf717
Does anyone own the "Lennon Legend" Dvd?... if so what is it like, is it worth getting etc
It's alright, it has music videos for a bunch of his songs, some of which were made before he died (Imagine, #9 Dream, jealous Guy are some I can remember), some of which are kind of corney and made a few years ago

Overall, it's alright, I think you'd like it

I think I've seen that one on tv, though I may be wrong. If it is that one defenetly get it, I loved it. I would get it anyway though if your as big of a Beatles fan as I am, then you would enjoy it just because its the Bealtes so I would just take a chance on it

El_Goodo 05-08-2005 10:53 PM

Wooo Hard Days Night was on Much More Music :) It was quite good...It was a lot funnier than I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed it..although the grandpa made me angry lol

El_Goodo 05-08-2005 10:56 PM

Also after watching the movie I've fallen in love with the song "I should have known better" **** its catchy I love it.

Glitterati 05-08-2005 11:37 PM

bcf717 knows more about The Beatles than all of us combined

Ulysses 05-09-2005 12:02 AM

I'm reading the Anthology at the moment, up to page 64 so I am not all that far through it. It is really interesting and a great read, all the chaos of Hamburg and the Kaiserkeller club where they played and about Rory Storm and the Hurricanes in which Ringo was in and how the Beatles improved immensly from playing night and day in Hamburg that when they got back to Liverpool they were a lot better than any of the bands there, Ringo noticed that they had really gelled as an outfit since he first met them and drew the conclusion that they were better than Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.

When I first heard it I was walking through the hallway at my school and I was trying so hard not to spin in circles and click my heals or something. I love how John does that thing with his voice...

DeusExMachina 05-09-2005 01:57 PM

Speaking of people leaving the band, why did Stu Sutcliffe (I think that's his name...) leave? Something about falling in love with a girl? Don't remember for sure.

Did he leave and then die? Or just die?

I think they disliked him because
1) He wasn't a good bassist
2) He was apparently extremely good looking

Distant Echoes 05-09-2005 02:12 PM

I couldnt imagine somebody getting kicked out for being good looking...but it was for the best, apperantly.

I picked up Let it Be on Friday, and Im gettin the White Album tomorrow. All the moments in my life have led to the White Album...and now that Ill have it...Ill probably just be bored again and stop posting on these boards for another week until my next CD

I cant wait to get While my Guitar Gently Weeps though. I never hear that song at all

The first listen of The White Album is beyond words. I was hooked to Happiness is a Warm Gun for about two weeks.

Yea, he fell in love with a German artsy girl I believe, so he just stayed in Germany.

bcf717 05-09-2005 08:10 PM

Canadian Guy; old age has it's advantages.... I grew up while they were still a group. I was 12 in 1969.

Stu Sutcliffe was friend of John's from Art school. No, he couldn't play, but friendship was thick and he had the money to buy guitars from the sale of his artwork. He did meet a girl in Germany. I can't remember her name offhand, but she was a model and did the haircut on Sutcliffe first that would become the Beatle style for the rest of the band. He stayed behind in Germany to be with her when the others returned to England. Sadly, six or so months later, he died from a brain aneurism.

bcf717 05-09-2005 08:31 PM

PS. Don't be scared of me age.... It ain't all that old when you think about it. I make my living as a newspaper photographer and comic book illustrator, which keeps me busy and young. I play a mean bass, can strum a nasty six-string and still have a bit of speed left behind a drum kit. I have two boys (one entering his teens) who are very much into music. I'm doing my best to pass what I know about guitar playing and music to them. Plus I'm learning a lot about the new bands from my oldest. Music is something that no-one can ever take away from you.

By the way, Styx, is making a come-back and releasing a new album of cover songs. They were a band from the seventies through eighties. They do a cover of 'I Am the Walrus.' I've heard it. ( Some radio buddies let me hear the advance disc) It's not bad. Check it out when it's released which should be any day now. :)

blue3 05-09-2005 09:00 PM

Seafroggys 05-09-2005 09:20 PM

I read the Anthology in like 8th grade. I always skip over the page with the two virgins cover....I just can't look at my idol naked

I Should Have KNown Better is such a great Beatles tune....one of their better earlier stuff.

Sure Joker, I'd be interested in hearing it. bfogletto@hotmail.com

I was more surprised if anything that Styx, of all bands, would do a Beatles live cover version.
Quicky question did the Beatles write "Twist and Shout"?
No, it's a cover song..
