their most recent album just seems like a poor attempt at crossing post-hardcore and melodic death metal. Their first album was pretty much just generic metalcore, but their 2nd album was pretty cool in that it had some odd riffing that was very DEP-esque.

I see the post hardcore, but I dont really see the MDM. It seemed to me like they tried to write better songs instead of having a big riff extravaganza like on the prior record.

masscows 07-22-2007 07:09 PM

if i remember correctly there were some harmonized leads and whatnot

I'll add that to my list of "Listen to again to see what that guy is talking about" :thumb:
I still haven't gotten to listen to that, and I should considering it influenced a bunch of bands I like.
Album pwns. It is better than NJ, The Chariot, and all other bands like that, even tho I still like NJ and The Chariot.

Invicta_Veritas 07-22-2007 11:09 PM
Agreed.

And BTW I have a hard time getting into Chimaira. They have like two or three catchy songs grand total but the rest is hard for me to get into, due to the nu-metal influence.
The S/T has very little nu-metal influence. It's a very metal record. So is much of The Impossibility of Reason.

LifeInABox 07-23-2007 09:35 AM

No, all Chimaira has done isn't good. Kevin Talley wasted his time.

Invicta_Veritas 07-23-2007 09:55 AM

Kevin Talley was the worst thing to happen to that record (and the band), what are you talking about? Herrick owns Talley.

LifeInABox 07-23-2007 10:45 AM

Uhhh, Talley is amazing and shouldn't have wated his time on a mediocre Metalcore album?

RetiredAt21 07-23-2007 10:56 AM

Norma Jean and the Chariot both suck massive amounts of balls.

We Are The Romans is awesome.

LifeInABox 07-23-2007 11:14 AM

Yeah, that album is better than both of those bands, but I still like them.

ARG!

LifeInABox 07-23-2007 11:16 AM

No. Why do we need to have that link?

RetiredAt21 07-23-2007 11:18 AM

That article said Leeway is metalcore...

"MARK OF THE SQUEALER!!!"

son of rhoads 07-23-2007 11:21 AM

The part about the breakdowns was pretty amusing.

LifeInABox 07-23-2007 11:22 AM

They also said Atreyu was an influential band to the genre.

NP: Botch- Transitions from Persona to Object

RetiredAt21 07-23-2007 11:28 AM

That's my favorite Botch song.

LifeInABox 07-23-2007 11:32 AM

Mine is still C. Tomas Howell as the "Soul Man".

a_girl_brushed_red_x 07-23-2007 11:44 AM

atreyu's better than everybody gives them credit for

this flesh a tomb is a really nice song

LifeInABox 07-23-2007 11:46 AM

I can't even talk about Atreyu without feeling sick. They shame the entire genre.
