What's up guys? Quick question:

I've really been wanting to listen to bands like Mogwai, and Isis, but I have not a clue which are their best albums..

The new Tool cd, of course, is mind blowing, but I don't want to be too narrow with music. I've heard Isis before, but I don't understand why the lead singer wants to growl/scream over such beautiful music (the f u c ker). Is Mogwai this way..? And can you point me to more bands who can blow mind chunks as much as Tool..?

Thanks for the help, if anyone can..

I dont think Mogwai is that way, I remember having an album by them and the singer didnt scream.

Sweet..
It's not that I hate screaming. Hell, if the music and emotional setting of the song calls for it, then by all means. But if someone is growling just for the hell of it, it pisses me off. "What the f u c k are you screaming for?! You're singing a f u c king song about your trip to the cemetary!"

So, what would you say is one of their better cd's..?

Spiritofmosa 05-10-2006 10:50 AM

Whoring my reviews of mogwai. They still remain the best live experience I have ever seen

ArC 05-10-2006 12:44 PM

I'm seeing them in Kansas City tommorow night (F uck my senior banquet :) ). I can't wait to see what the set list is...

Is there a band opening for them on this short tour? or is it just Tool. Anyone know?

You should REALLY check out this band called Jesu. Their newest EP 'Silver' is brilliant, kinda like Isis i suppose that kinda post metal sound but with nice vocals :)

And this tour is just tool.

And AJIG i have a mogwai album 'young team' but am not that impressed. Anychance i'd like any of their other stuff. I just was pretty bored listening to the one i have..

Moseswasbanned 05-10-2006 02:37 PM

Hmmm, I might could do vocals if I ever stop being so busy.

kurrpt 05-10-2006 02:39 PM

... is that before or after you actually learn to like this song?

how'd you get ban'd?

Moseswasbanned 05-10-2006 02:47 PM

I posted in an illegal thread close to the time Riva went on a banning spree. It was supposed to be five days but he apparently lowered it to 4:00 Central time today after I made my case.

As for the song, I don't hate it anymore. I like it mildly and in retrospect.

Both Oceanic and Panopticon are good Isis CDs. I thought the screaming really worked well and the way it is used makes it just another instrument and not the main focus. And they're awesome live and that man can scream like a god.

Moseswasbanned 05-10-2006 02:52 PM

Hey ATC, you still in for planning that record label thingy?

Syncratic 05-10-2006 03:05 PM

Has anyone seen the clip for 'Vicarious' or know when it will debut?

misunderstood 05-10-2006 04:42 PM

^No, but looks like there's a 'Vicarious' single dvd on the way. I guess something like the previously released 'Schism' and 'Parabol/Parabola'.

Maybe this will have some extra stuff on it. comment from Jones himself perhaps? That'd be nice.

Syncratic 05-10-2006 06:27 PM

I heard about that.......interesting, nonetheless.

5 days? It was 1 for everyone, as per the explanation in the Rules thread.

Moses 05-10-2006 06:47 PM

Hmmm... I swear that's what it said the first and last time I read it.

Otherside 05-10-2006 07:28 PM

So Vicarious is a great song, I don't know why I didn't like it at first. One of my favorites from the new CD.

Deconstruction 05-10-2006 07:32 PM

Meh, most people I knwo dont really like 10000 dyas..They said its just not par with Tools other albums.

magicbus 05-10-2006 07:55 PM

I've been listening to it more and more the past few days. At first I thought a lot of the songs sounded the same, but they're all getting better every time I listen to it. It's really great.

What do you guys think of the booklet artwork? It's pretty cool looking.

Darkness 05-10-2006 08:14 PM

It's a great album, but I think I killed it already... damnit.

Otherside 05-10-2006 09:11 PM

"Ah, and “Viginti Tres” was a similar breath of fresh air, or perhaps quite the opposite. I haven’t been to the dentist in quite a while, and I was starting to get nervous about my lack of preventive dental care. Leave it to Tool to put my mind at ease by including the sound of that dental vacuum suction device on the end of their album! It feels like the spit is getting sucked out of my head even as I listen to it! And it even builds to a calming crescendo of tooth-drilling agony, just like a real visit to the ol’ sadist. This is not to mention the three-minute intro to Rosetta Stoned; that clearly doesn’t count as filler, since it’s an integral part of the song, right? I mean, you might ask “what could possibly make an already lengthy and overwrought song even better?” Obviously, the answer is to make the sum’bitch longer! Just slap on a vacuous three minutes of guitar feedback and a couple of menacing chords, and voila: epic."

Young Team and Panopticon, respectively.

AdventEnd 05-10-2006 10:06 PM

I just posted a new thread about this, but has anyone noticed that bands like APC and Tool are becoming rare? Metal is getting too far into that screaming ****, and it annoys me.
