I don't want to whore the vocal opening of The Pot, but that down right makes the album for me vocally.
Yes! I love the high part at the start, I never would have thought Maynard could get that high..
His voice control is second to none, it's ****ing intense!

Note: I'm not a huge fan of Tool, or anything Maynard has done, so I haven't heard much of his singing, if there are other examples of him getting that high, please tell me, it's awesome.

Edit: I've had 10,000 Days for almost a week now, and still haven't listenned to the full thing, damn Jambi, why does it have to be so good?!!!

Huber 05-09-2006 08:15 AM

The Patient has got some high ones too.
Has anyone who have seen the Tool shows up to date paid attention to Carey in the tabla parts? Does he have all the tabla parts sampled into his Handsonic or is he recording them then triggering them with the MC909?

Im curious if he is actually playing an actual tabla on stage, playing the handsonic, or running loops live.
I think he's using these (at least now):

http://www.synesthesiacorp.com/home.html

I want one of those so bad, but they hurt the wallet.

JamJar 05-09-2006 10:35 AM

Aren't they like $999?

taylormemer 05-09-2006 10:51 AM

Yep, probably worth every penny.

Merkaba 05-09-2006 10:56 AM

"the high part at the begining" of pot? Thats not really high. NOt even for him. I would rather he use his normal voice but it is different, so....

kurrpt 05-09-2006 11:31 AM

i think hes talking about the word "high" and not high as in pitch

No, he said "I didn't know he could get that high".

You know what I find funny? All the song names that people thought sucked before they heard the album ended up being the best songs on it. I love how Lost Keys rolls into Rosetta Stoned, it's probably my favorite song on the album but I think their use of hallucinogens has influenced this album a little too much. I don't know I'm sure it will grow on me.
You know what I find funny? All the song names that people thought sucked before they heard the album ended up being the best songs on it. .
I also noticed this. The same thing happned to the artwork. Remember a while back someone posted a link to some leaked images. I remember alot of people saying that they were toolish but fakes none the less. Kinda neat to see them on the Cd.

Yeah, pretty much. Now on with it!

deadinholywood 05-09-2006 08:33 PM

Eh they're allowed to say stadium>10,000 days just as im allowed to say that i dont think either of these albums are albums of the year.

You started the argument in a RHCP review site, how much pity do you want from us?

randomthought9 05-10-2006 12:25 AM

Yeah, that's just looking for trouble. Don't be a fanboy.

Anyways, I listened to 10,000 Days all the way through. It was quite the experience, one I haven't had in a long time with music. I just sat in my room with the lights out, no noise or distraction, and just listened to the album. It was great.

Adam Jones is GOD 05-10-2006 05:38 AM

God, the mess of the reviews comments hurts my eyes. Its the usual

'fan makes a comment'
'non fan disagrees'
'fan debates this point in a dignified manner'

Fanboy enters

'fanboy argues this point without factual backup, and lack of english skills'
'non fan turns into idiot too and starts disagreeing with everything'

Anyway, this wait for the Vicarious video is really getting to me, I want it now :(

The worse part is definiatly when the fan boy enters.

Otherside 05-10-2006 05:59 AM

And then all the idiots refer to every Tool fan as a fanboy.

Ugh.

I get a recording device and I'll throw some drums down for you.

Whose gonna do the drum tracks? I did the drum tracks for someone on here for Stinkfist. I should be in the studio within the next month and could get ya some raw .dat tracks.

Ahhh, so today is Carey's bday? Sounds like a good reason to toss one down.

Ack, beat the the punch by Huber!

kurrpt 05-10-2006 08:00 AM

actually, anyone who wants to participate....

sonor, dont be put off cause huber is doing it. If i get more than one drum track, ill just put guitar on both :thumb:

I think ill have to do 2 tracks for the intro, but that shouldnt be a big deal. Im hoping i can get my condensor working perfect to mic my cab.

SonorKen 05-10-2006 08:03 AM

How are ya going to record the guitar parts? What format? Know of any bass players here who would want to participate as well? If not the guy I play with from Side A Only can lay em down.

If ya get the guitar tracks I can probably get the whole thing pro-mixed when we do our 4 track demo cd. They have alloted a whole day for me to do my tracks but I shouldn't take more than 2 hours max so I should be able to use the rest of my day for a "side project".

Huber 05-10-2006 08:05 AM

I'll probably be a flake anyways, drums are all yours. I'm real busy.

While your here Ken...

I got the mics, I got the mixer, what kind of thing should I run all this into to record?

kurrpt 05-10-2006 08:06 AM

i record in wav format, then convert that to MP3

with my GNX4, ill probably do a condensor in, and record the guitar over top the mp3 i put onto the flash memory card :thumb:

It may sound semi-live-esque, since im using a condensor. Ill be running my PRS tremonti sig, which is fairly similar to AJ silverburst. I can easily get a HEAVY distorted tone from my Krank amp. Ill be sure to try to dial in his tone to the best of my ability

Go ahead and work on them as well. I have already been playing the song live with some friends so I already know the drum tracks. As far as busy, haha, man, were in the same boat.

My recording set up is pretty simple. I run all my mics, (Shure Sm57 snare, hats, under snare, Beta 52's for each kick [micced to pick up the actual drum tone, not alot of attack], Shure SM81's [2 overheads, 2 for effect cymbals {cup chimes, flanger bell, mega cup chime etc}], and Audix D2's for toms, and Audix D4's for my 14" and 16" floor toms) and Roland SPDS (PD9's and KD120) into a Roland VS1680. Before they hit the 1680 I have a equalizer on the kicks and snare and all the toms/snare are gated.

The Roland VS1680 is a GREAT recording platform. I was actually planning on selling my 1680 and getting the VS2480 but changed my mind as I would rather get a Handsonic and MC909. Here is the info I listed on the auction tho, it should fill ya in on the info.

The VS-1680 Digital Studio Workstation represents the new definition of recording power: a 16-track, 24-bit audio recording, editing, mixing and effects processing system in a compact tabletop workstation. With its advanced features, amazing sound quality and intuitive new user interface, the VS-1680 is a bold step forward in professional audio recording.
16 tracks of hard disk audio recording; 256 Virtual tracks (16 tracks x 16 V-tracks) to freely record different ideas and arrangements
24-bit MT Pro Recording Mode for massive headroom and dynamic range—a first in its class
Huge 320 x 240 dot graphic LCD provides simultaneous level meters, play list, EQ curves, EFX settings, waveforms, and more
20-bit A/D, D/A converters for pristine sound
2 optional 24-bit stereo multi-effects processors (VS8F-2) provide up to 8 channels of independent effects processing
New EZ Routing function allows users to create and save various recording, mixing, track bouncing and other comprehensive mixer templates for instant recall
10 audio inputs: 2 balanced XLR-type inputs w/ phantom power, 6 balanced 1/4" inputs, and 1 stereo digital input (optical/coaxial)
12 audio outputs: 8 RCA-type outputs (Master L/R, Aux.A L/R, Aux.B L/R, Monitor L/R), and 2 stereo digital outputs (1 optical, 1 coaxial) plus Phones output
Dedicated LED buttons and an elegant user interface for simplified operation
Direct audio CD recording and data backup using built-in SCSI port and optional compatible CD-R drive

Upgraded System also includes: These are all options I bought for this system

1- VSBF-2 Effects Expansion board
It is VXpanded
Upgraded to a 20 gigabyte hard drive
Includes the fast VS-CDR III External CD-ROM burner to burn your music straight to a cd
Also includes a pair of Edirol MA10 monitors/speakers for mixing without a headset

If ya don't want to dump that kinda cash into a recording system (you can actually produce demo quality recordings with this) you can grab a 8 track (6 virtual tracks) Tascam cassette recorder. I have one of these and can hit ya up with info on it as well. I use it for laying down drum tracks when I wake up in the middle of the night with an idea. It's easy to use, easy to catalog tracks and convert. The 1680 requires mixing and mastering.

If I had to guess I would say the engineer would want it left in .wav format as MP3 format loses alot of quality. I think we should definiatly want the live-esque sound, if people wanna hear the real thing they can buy the cd haha.

You guys should hit me up on aim (aim = sniffinlippy)
