Haha is a Sinking Ships 7" out of 30 worth $34?

Berserker! 11-18-2005 10:23 AM

I just bought The Beat Goes On. It's good but not as great as We're Unstopabble.

If you look at R&M, they have only two actual mods. Hardcore/Emo has four, except Jeremy doesn't really count, I guess. I want half asleep and ranting, just ignore it. :p

BuddyBigsby: How would I go about starting to organize shows? I have a friend who has been wanting to do so for awhile, but we aren't sure how to do it. The main guy that books shows aorund here has gone Nazi regarding what bands he books. Lately he's only been booking christian bands, and it's really starting to piss some of us off because other bands aren't getting a fair chance. So we want to give these non-preaching bands more chance.
Where at? :D (i live in teh I.E.)
This is the first big show I've put together, so I'm no expert, but this hasn't been too hard.

- Figure out a tentative date, get into contact with the venue about putting the show on
- Talk to the bands about playing said show
- Once you have the bands and the venue secure, you need to figure out the price of admission. I'm doing this through a pretty DIY venue, I don't know how it works with big places. But for me, I only really have to worry about bringing enough in to give the touring bands gas money. If its a local show you don't really have to worry about that and you can keep it pretty cheap.
- Once everything is booked: promote, promote, promote.

Special Brew 11-18-2005 02:23 PM

Sounds much easier than I though it would be. The venues around here are all cheap and crappy, and they don't really care what you do. most shows around here are $5-8 a head, which shouldn't be a problem.

Getting ahold of enough bands will be the main problem though. Thanks for the info. :-)

Floydfanatic 11-18-2005 02:26 PM

getting ahold of bands is the easy part

the date planning part is always hardest for me

Special Brew 11-18-2005 02:29 PM

Getting ahold of local band iwll be simple, but there aren't very many to fill a show with, especially ince our main band(Leave It At The Door) is MIA right now due to them missing a vocalist.

I don't know how to get bands that aren't from around here to stop by.

Floydfanatic 11-18-2005 02:31 PM

just email bands, it's a lot easier than it seems

Look at bands touring schedules all the time. If they have a spot that says like

"Anywhere in KY - HELP!"
or
"TBA"

that means they're looking for a show. Get into contact with them at that point. If there's a message board for your "scene" (I doubt there's much one in Kentucky...) that helps a LOT too.

I run the only real messageboard for my area, but Louisvillehardcore.com is pretty big. L-ville is over three hours away though. Lexongton is getting decently big as well.

Let's Chop Cats! 11-18-2005 04:11 PM

Booking local bands is the best for the first show or so you do so you can get the feel of things.

When booking the venue don't forget to get a PA if the venue doesn't provide one.

What?
How far are you from Elizabethtown?
According to Mapquest, a little over three hours. About the same distance as Louiseville I guess.

victimofreality 11-18-2005 07:40 PM

post flyers

Special Brew 11-18-2005 07:42 PM

I post flyers everywhere for the shows that Micheal and Kay organizes around here.

God damnit! I got banned for a month for those fucking post spawn links.

I normally check links, and the one time I have to pay. :upset:

You'll get it back before then.

But be careful when clicking links guys.

Special Brew 11-18-2005 08:11 PM

I'm not worried about the time, it just kind of sucks getting banned. :-/

Btw, what's with the Vince avatar and stuff?

Liberi Fatali 11-18-2005 08:17 PM

It is all out of concern for Vince, the longer he goes on without shaving the more yetish he becomes. :(

He was such a charming and handsome young man when he had no beard, now look at him.

/starts a make Vince shave petition

Special Brew 11-18-2005 08:18 PM

lmao, I'd sign it. I've never seen pics of him shaven though.

oh shi

Lib, go edit the links out of the emo community forum. I quoted the link on my main account and it's still there.

Yeah, he looks much better shaven.

Floydfanatic 11-18-2005 08:39 PM

Not if I can do 7,479 posts before you get unbanned.

Special Brew 11-19-2005 12:23 AM

I made about 3000 posts in the month of April alone, and that was quite a feat by itself. Adding another 4000+ posts to that would make you Jesus. :p

TakeWarning 11-19-2005 12:29 AM

Haha, there's no way someone could do that many posts in one month. Vince got his 10,000 pretty quick though.

obese_breasts 11-19-2005 12:59 AM

I've been here for 2 years and don't even have 5000 posts. Must be cause I stay out of the pit.

Special Brew 11-19-2005 01:19 AM

Most likely. Most of my posts are in the pit and in here. Some over in the death head's thread and things in R&M. ;-/

TakeWarning 11-19-2005 02:33 AM

If I posted in The Pit I reckon my postcount would be about 4000. Since I spend so much time on MX.
