Being made to stretch your mind against your will?
In the past 4 years I was in theatre and drama, I've read enough Shakespeare to keep one man entertained and puzzled for the rest of his life. And as for Jonathan Swift, I understand I'm in honors English, but I'm not in college just yet.

My drama teacher would hang you for having your fill of Shakespeare. If someone ever swears she says "Why swear? Why not insult someone with class? Shakespeare could insult a man to suicide" (I'm paraphrasing, but stuff along those lines.) Her cat is called Ophelia. And as for reading Shakespeare myself, I think it is better watched first and then read. Watching it (play, not movie) will give a better overall understanding to the story and reading will enhance that and let you see some of his subtleties he worked into his scripts. And some of his poetry was absolutely amazing. |
Honestly, I hate poetry. Words just don't appeal to me. And as for theatre, I'm more of a fan of Roman/Greek theatre rather than Shakespeare.
|
That surprises me, I would have thought you liked poetry (Shanes Cool Lyrics line of threads) and I think that Roman and Greek theater, although some of it is sensational, is near the quality of Oscar Wilde era Britain, Wilde in particular.

Who cares about theatre listen to ska
