Apocalyptic Raids 10-14-2005 05:28 AM
Indeed. The one thing that kept me from taking a year off of Uni is the fact I'd have to get back into it, and I think that's probably one of the hardest transitions you can make.
I will most likely take a year off.

Now I'm scared :'(

Lord Abortion 10-14-2005 06:45 AM

/\/\great avatar BTW. :D

Yeah, I think it's much easier To go straight to Uni, not do the year out thing

Bartender 10-14-2005 07:01 AM

On the other hand, my old English teacher took a year out whenever the opportunity presented itself - in between sixth form and university, in between finishing her degree course and going on to teacher training thingy, in between attaining her teacher training thingy and actually starting work - and she turned out fine. Swore by it, in fact.

Arucard 10-14-2005 07:05 AM

Well i just woke up as its a Teacher Training day, so no school for Joe. My mates are coming over in about half an hour to make a really big pie. Should be fun.

Lord Abortion 10-14-2005 07:07 AM

Savoury or sweet?

Arucard 10-14-2005 07:10 AM

Savoury, its gonna have alot of meat in it.

I dunno, I kinda like me some pecan pie...

Jom 10-14-2005 08:01 AM

In regards to "taking a year off" and all that other discussion:

I don't know what I'd do with myself if I took a year off of school. I already had the work ethic from high school, it's just magnified and multiplied at the university level. Had I taken a year off, I would have felt swamped because I would have found it impossible to "get back into the swing of things."

Sure, you can work, but I doubt one will find a 9-5 job. I'd be such a bum, just sit around all day after work and not do anything.

In Joe's case, though, it sounds like his band is going places. I play music alone for fun/recreation/enjoyment/what have you. I don't think I could join a band, because I would cite stereotypical "different creative interests" shpeal with my supposed bandmates. If the opportunity arises, I'd imagine he'd take it.

Basically, I would rather just keep going to school, because all I'm going to be doing is researching, writing, and all that stuff until I retire, so I might as well attempt to excel at it now.

Arucard 10-14-2005 08:35 AM

We have an audition for next years Endiburough Festival in a week or two, so if we ace that (which we probably will), we're on easy street to getting an indie label deal.

And Jom : All of my band have very different music tastes. I'm obviously abit of a Death Head, where as my drummer loves Punk/Pop-Punk in the vein off The Offspring and AFI, and is an A7X whore, where as the other guitarist is really into experimental indie stuff (Mody Lemon, Acoustic Ladyland). All of the different genres enhance the music.

dUSK 10-14-2005 09:02 AM
Greg is sporting a RP avatar and usertitle, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure what band he is seeing now.
Once again the Yogi is correct.

The gig I went to see consisted of a number of local bands, coming from various genres (particularly Alt/Indie though). I went largely to see an MXer who goes by the name of Tapeworm perform. It made for a decent evening.

/returns hi-5, as to not leave Jason hanging.

Please and thank you.

I don't have that album. Great review, Jom (Antihero is still your name there  ) and it makes it seem worth getting. How much is it???

I don't know, I picked it up in 1999, where it was $17 (oh, I miss the days when doublediscs weren't $24 and up).

You might find it on CDnow for cheap, possibly.

Alternatively, I could send you a couple tracks :)

Joe 10-14-2005 04:53 PM

Yes, a sample would be excellent, thanks! I'll probably end up buying it.

Okies. Any requests?

I'll give you a hint: the Metallica song is automatically getting put in. It's the best live rendition of "Creeping Death" that I've ever heard from them :)

Of course, I'd rather have your personal requests.

Thanks, and take care.

Nice review Jom, but I've always had this notion in the back of my mind. You're reviews are always so intimidatingly long.

My dad and I just made a bargain where in the end, very much against both of our wills I agreed to be in a ballet performance and he agreed to let me pierce my nose. I would have felt bad making him give me something material (like money or an object) a priveledge on the other hand seemed OK. it and getting a tattoo are the only two things I can think of that I am not "allowed" to do while they pay for me to exist, excluding breaking the law and being a generally bad person. He just came to offer me $200 not to pierce my nose for one and a half years. I refused on principle and the fact that it would be retarded to waste his money like that over something so trivial and rediculous. Anyway, thought that would make for a good opening to my return to R&M.

I read Mein Kampf and was able to uphold my belief that Hitler and I are really similar.

No. Are you getting annoyed by n00bs AIMing you? It's been happening to me constantly lately.

Dancin' Man 10-14-2005 09:07 PM

are they jacking music from you?

That OpethMetallica used to from me but even when I told him that I was there to share music and I did not want to sit there and recommend him bands, he kept asking so after warnings, I blocked him. THen he got his friends to harrass me. Then it all stopped. I forgot hwere I was going with that.
