Uhhh guys isn't this talk that would be better suited for that new Mega Vs "taliica thread?? just a thought. but since its the subject, Hammett has more interesting solos and riffs period. People always mention how hangar 18 has like 11 solos. but pesonally i think there all lackluster and not all that memorable....i can usually recall and sometimes play most Hammett solos from any song that has one. I'm not sayin hes better than Freidman I just think he wrote better stuff.
Better solos is pushing it, Fade to Black is the best solo I've ever heard (we're talking about all sorts of categories, not just speed)
i wasn't talking also about solos with speed, RIP has more difficult solos and more technical riffs, not just an abuse on powerchords. i forgot to add that metallica had the :thumb: on instrumentals. I'm a fan of both bands, in fact i like more metallica, but i really think RIP i s better than all the metallica work, i think you get the same response of someone who like both bands for their music and not for their personal issues. |

No because that thread is completely illegal and the way it works now is that people that talk in illegal threads get banned, but that hasn't been enforced too much. The thread will be closed soon and the threadstarter will be banned And yes, Hanger 18 definitely does not have 11 solos, and if it did then it would be more 5 minute song.
I'm a fan of both bands, in fact i like more metallica, but i really think RIP i s better than all the metallica work, i think you get the same response of someone who like both bands for their music and not for their personal issues.
Well that's your opinion. I'm a fan of both but disagree :thumb: |
Megadeth certainly had better solos. Hammett's are all so similar.
I never saw the attraction of RTL. Give me Justice and Puppets anyday. |
RTL > SFSGSW > RIP > KeA > NLTL > PM > MoP > *
Done ^_^; |
RIP > PSBWB > SFSGSW > MOP > KIMB > AJFA > KEA > RTL
Take that :p |
KIMB is not better than RTL or MOP.
|
Yes it is.
White Ninja says so. |
KIMB lacks quite a lot, it has no ballads and the solos are just as fast as they can be. MOP and RTL have ballads and melodic solos. Don't get me wrong though, I love KIMB.
|
What it lacks in polish, it makes up for in raw energy.

You're right!
I really have nothing to reply :p But ahh.. Go read the sort of 'Featured Artist' on Burton found here. |

I would say a song is amazing because it has 11 solos that last a few seconds oh man I'm completely blanking on what KIMB stands for... (I don't actually have it, so you can't reeeeeeeeally blame me.) But I like RTL better any day because the solos are perfect. They're not just based on speed, but they fit the song and can be fast when needed |
Killing is my business... And business is good \m/
I have a feeling you might really like bits of KIMB (In particular Looking Down The Cross), and the whole SFSGSW album. By the way, I didn't notice your name change until just then :p When did you get it changed? |

1988 and before Metallica was better than Megadeth in my opinion. But since 1990 Megadeth has completely steamrolled Metallica.

Black Album better than Rust In Peace?
I disagree! |
To whoever said the bass was better in Metallica than Megadeth, I can honestly say that Ellefson on RIP probably outplays Burton consistently. I don't know if Ellefson could have done Anaesthesia style solos (which a lot of people hate anyway), but his work on the songs was far more interesting.
:smash: |
I dunno I kinda disagree with that, Ellefson never really did that many interesting basslines in Megadeth.
However his bassline in the first half of My Last Words is freakin awesome. |
I think his basslines are more interesting than anything Cliff did in songs really (with the possible exception of the solo in Orion. No, not the interlude one. The actual solo).
Five Magics, My Last Words, Take No Prisoners... All quality Ellefson stuff. He is one of the few pick players with taste IMO. :smash: |
Black Album better than Rust In Peace?
I disagree!
Same here. RIP is like 10 Black Albums. |
What made the Black Album so good was its time of release. The whole Madison Square Guarden thing helped 'em and hurt 'em. Musically, it was ridiculed because of NEM, mainly, but there was stuff with Unforgiven that people didn't like. And in place of the hardcore thrash guys they lost, they picked lots and lots of chicks(Lars:15,000 chick to 50 guys!, quote from Year and a Half Pt.2) and got some newer metal fans in. It was the start of Metallica's decline, in a way. The Black Album's tours, cause there wasn't just one big *** world tour like alot of people see it, took it out of 'em, ALOT. With Load and Reload they had almost completely different musical views. Then there was the Napster thing, that lost them a large number of fans, there were people that would gather just to shred Metallica albums to pieces. St. Anger is by far the worst choice they could have made. A nu-metal Metallica is almost scary, plus the sound quality wasn't nearly as good as even Kill 'Em All(now yes, Kill 'Em All had bad quality compared to others but still). Listen to Sekk & Destroy, very carefully, after Jaymz starts the rhythm. Just before Kirk comes in you can hear Lars sticks clicking together.

You can hear James hit a wrong not in TFHM near the start it sounds like a muted e string.
