Oh I love it, I'm just not very good at it yet.
Fair enough.

If you already play guitar, how hard could switching to bass possibly be

Kyle the 2nd 08-03-2006 02:45 PM

I've been playing guitar for a year and a half now and I still suck. I'm not bad at learning other people's songs and my fingers are quite free and fast moving, but a lack of any kind of muical theory is really holding me back. I planned to really knuckle down and learn some this summer, but I still havn't made an effort.

Hey Jon, are you still having trouble uploading that Dub CD you reccomended to me a while back?

Horrorshow34 08-03-2006 02:49 PM

I haven't cut my hair for 2 months and today I looked in the mirror and guess who I saw staring back at me. . . . the one and only Thurston Moore :smoke:

Kyle the 2nd 08-03-2006 02:51 PM

When I look in the mirror, I can't believe what I see, tell me who's that funky dude staring back at me....

Horrorshow34 08-03-2006 02:57 PM

Am gonna grow a Junkie mullet for college  coolest kid on site? oh yeah

JonM 08-03-2006 03:08 PM
If you already play guitar, how hard could switching to bass possibly be
I'm just finding it physically tiring because it's bigger than the instrument I'm used to. I'm sure I'll get used to it soon.
Hey Jon, are you still having trouble uploading that Dub CD you reccomended to me a while back?
Yeah, I actually gave up because my connection from home is too intermittent and weak. I'll have to do it when I get back to school in a couple weeks.
Yeah, I actually gave up because my connection from home is too intermittent and weak. Any other reccomendations whilst I'm not clogged up with stuff to listen to?

masada 08-03-2006 03:17 PM

Guitar is more tiring to play than bass for me.

but then again i'm a fat bastard

When I look in the mirror, I'm like "Nice glasses, they compliment your jewfro."

masada 08-03-2006 03:30 PM

i wish i gad a jewfro

ATM 08-03-2006 04:15 PM

I can relate, Jon. I'm still getting the hang of the humoungous frets on the bass as well.

YDload 08-03-2006 04:25 PM

I'm pretty good at bass :)

I've learned almost every song on Pink Flag by ear, and I'll try to figure out any Dinosaur Jr. song I can get as well.

ATM 08-03-2006 04:34 PM

We are doing a cover of Funk #49. It's got a sweet bass line.

Little Man being Erased 08-03-2006 04:45 PM

I should start playing my bass again.
I'm almost done my bottom 50 on the list. Man this is hard.

edit: 5500 yeah
Screw this I'm gonna do 75.

Zappa 08-03-2006 09:52 PM

All this time I was a clarinetist, and I'm mocking JonM!

To be honest, though, this clarinet stuff is really awesome. I just love being able to play a reed instrument, because it's a different sound from what I normally play.

masada 08-03-2006 09:53 PM

I wish I could play an instrument.

Zappa 08-03-2006 10:03 PM

I play 5 currently.

Robert Crumb 08-03-2006 10:14 PM

I can play guitar horribly. Also, harmonica. Horribly. I bet if I had drums and keyboards, I could play those horribly, too. I'm like a one-man band. A horrible one-man band.

Zappa 08-03-2006 10:19 PM

Whoo.

3 of the instruments on my list are guitar, trombone, and clarinet, all of which I've spent nearly no time actually practicing, and I can't honestly play them at all. Trombone I have no ambition with, guitar is too weird, and clarinet I might actually build up.

The other two are trumpet and piano/keys. I am getting really good at faking it on keys in a rock'n situation, and I'm an okay trumpet player.

Happymeal 08-03-2006 10:20 PM

Short, fat, double-jointed fingers make me unmotivated to get better on guitar.

masada 08-03-2006 10:20 PM

That's why you hook it up to a bunch of pedals and hit it really hard.

I play recorder through a microphone and run through pedals and an amplifier. It's neat.

Robert Crumb 08-03-2006 10:25 PM

I played clarinet back in the 7th grade. For a couple months. There was like some clerical accident with my elective paper work or something and I ended up in band for a semester. I think the most I learned was like the opening notes to Aeris' death theme from FF VII. Nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd.

masada 08-03-2006 10:28 PM

I'm going to learn all the music to the original Pokemon games on banjo.

Sexymuffin Vol. 2 08-03-2006 10:29 PM

I'm a pretty good guitarist. I can make fun melodies on a keyboard, but i'm very effect driven with it. I used to play saxophone and wish i had one to practice with, as it's a fun instrument. I can play bass fairly well and I'm getting better at drums.

Does singing count as an instrument?

masada 08-03-2006 10:29 PM

Playing an instrument well doesn't count.
