i think it was '96 or so. they played quite a few places (inc. Newcastle :) ) so hopefully they'll do a full UK tour after the release of the new album.
Crap. They should tour the UK then.

Squirrel 03-29-2006 04:34 AM

I've seen them live, i'm from England, was brilliant to see them back when they were my favorite band, was disappointed they didnt play One though - we got a few other surprises though, which was cool :)

Rattlehead 03-29-2006 09:59 AM
Yeah, but they could do it, they're fuckin' Metallica!
Prince of Darkness 03-29-2006 11:20 AM

When Hetfield says at the end of a show "See you guys REAL FUKING SOON!"
Does he mean it? I mean, they've never been here(SA) before, so would they come back?

Whale and Wasp 03-29-2006 11:22 AM

their concerts are outrageously expensive...

Rattlehead 03-29-2006 11:51 AM

give me an idea of their expensiveness?

Jev 03-29-2006 12:33 PM

I paid like £25 for my ticket.

I thought my friend was insane for flying to New York to see DT.

How much is something like that going to cost? And try to get pictures to post.

timmySmi 03-29-2006 05:53 PM

Who misses Jason?

Chu 03-29-2006 06:05 PM

No one :p

Edit: I found this, but I didn't look at anything on the page, if someone wants to (:p), they can, and if they find anywhere to download their demos.. Share it with the thread :D
I paid like £25 for my ticket.
Oooh so expensive!

Dude, in order to get good tickets here you need to join the Metallica club and buy the most expensive tickets in the house when the pre-sale (club members only) is going on.

Total? Without food and t-shirts? $130+ assuming you're buying one ticket.

But yes they're expensive.

NP: Die, Die My Darling. That song is so cool.

I know it's cheap, I'm showing off my superiority :p

Or something.

Rattlehead 03-30-2006 04:47 AM

back on the subject of the new album, i think the major improvement from st. anger is that they need some decent solos. and they should get their old sound back. that distortion just didn't do it for me. And although Lars'
"oil-drum" effect on his snare sounded good, it doesn't suit the band.

I thought the drumming was the worst part of St. Anger. It sounded like he was banging on pots & pans like little kids do. Come to think of it, Lars acts like one.

They need to do everything they didn't on St. Anger to make a decent album.

Yes they need to bring back solos but, they first need tasty riffs.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-30-2006 05:25 AM

I agree about the riffs. I can go without solos if the riffs are good.

St Anger wasnt without some tasty riffage.

Nothing to rival Dark Tranquility, Carcass, Decapitated, MoP, Slayer etc but they were still decent riffs.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-30-2006 05:48 AM

Carcass \m/

If you're talking about Necroticism, that is ;)

That is applicable 99% of the discussion here though.

Their whole career :)

Thier first 3 albums >>>>> later work

But their entire career had some great riffs.

check my number of posts. what do you think?
I agree about the riffs. I can go without solos if the riffs are good.
i liked the riffs. they were simple without being a repetition other band's riffs. Sweet Amber, for example. that riff owns.

whats that link about?

Huber 03-30-2006 09:29 AM

I think the riffs were the part that made St. Anger listenable. The thing that still gets me is the guitar tone (I didn't like it for some reason) and obviously terrible drum production.

Father_Jack 03-30-2006 09:35 AM

Does anyone have that website where that guy rerecorded ...AJFA with the bass audible?

Well the drumming is really tingy in StAnger. And Lars gets annoyed really quickly with the rest of the band for the most stupidest things, like James being on his drumkit for too long. I dislike Lars......

Huber 03-30-2006 09:40 AM

Sometimes Lars has some smart, true, things to say, and he says them well. The whole rant about Mustaine that I've seen in several magazines lately is well said, and I agree with it.

heh, thanks man. Not only a good band but they appear to live ... 'near' you :p

Obituary - nice choice :thumb:

i agree entirely. i dont dislike any of them, and ive seen plenty of stuff about them.

hetfieldfan86 03-30-2006 11:22 AM

I tend to think most people who bag on Lars r either jealous, or obviously have no idea whats its liek to be a smart person and play music. He actually discusses things at length. I'm not sayin ur one of those people...but I think a lot of people who criticize him r one of the above or just total AAAholes themselves. I think hes great, he keeps metal interesting w/out bein totally political or anit-war and what not. ROCK ON!!!!!!!
