Moon will tear him down.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-19-2005 01:08 PM

Well it is!

slowhand 03-19-2005 01:13 PM

Tear me down, I don't care. It's my opinion, I shouldn't care what he thinks. He and I are two totally different people, and since I first saw one of his posts, I knew we would disagree on a lot of things.

I like PATGOD, and I think it's a good album and one of the few that embodies the spirit of 1967, alongside Sgt. Pepper, Pet Sounds, Velvet Underground and Nico, The Doors, Disraeli Gears and Surrealistic Pillow.

*stands and claps*

magicbus 03-19-2005 01:43 PM

Oh shoot, nevermind. I thought Schyma would be the one doing the tearing down, cause I thought he was the one who likes QMS and that stuff.

I love PATGOD as well, I just figured that statement would bring up some controversy.

Glitterati 03-19-2005 01:48 PM

Does anyone like Patti Smith?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-19-2005 01:49 PM

I had a Barrett avatar for the longest time I really do think its the greatest psychedelic album of all time. Moon is the only anti Barrett person here.

I remember that one.

So......Pink Floyd > Led Zeppelin.

Everyone agree?

magicbus 03-19-2005 01:52 PM

Yea.

Infact Syd just might make it. :D

I agree.

Badmoon always puts down Syd.

Pink Floyd is way better than Zepp... at least on the recording studios. Now, on live shows, it's hard. Zepp has a way of putting the audience into a tribal state of mind, which is awesome. But Pink Floyd plays with your senses on live shows, so they're great too. I don't know how to explain it.

Floyd, in my opinion, is the only band that can rival The Beatles on originality as recording artists.

Jam2Me 03-19-2005 02:41 PM

I don't know much about Pink Floyd...I have to get some work by them, a lot of people think they are the greatest band ever so I'll have to buy some albums soon, although I rarely see their albums in the used section no ones willing to give them up!

Not to put down what you said about psychedelic and embodying 1967, but I think the Grateful Dead's s/t from that year is amazing, I'm not sure which my favorite from that year is.

EDIT: Picked up a used CD, Dead Set, never heard of it, it's just some live recordings I only listened to two so far, good stuff. Only $7 :thumb:

thickasabrick 03-19-2005 02:56 PM

I'm not sure who I like more between Zepp and Floyd. I think Floyd maintained their creative and original edge longer than Zeppelin did. Don't get me wrong, I love Zeppelins later albums...but they really weren't doing anything groundbreaking (compared to The Wall and such Floyd albums).

Floyd definitely made better albums though. I prefer listening to a Floyd album than a Zep albun, just because they are more 'as a whole'.

slowhand 03-19-2005 02:57 PM

With my statement I'm not saying that the only two artists to achieve great things on a recording studio were The Beatles and Pink Floyd. In my opionion (key word 'opinion') The Beatles are the most important artist in the studio, since I believe the revolutionize the way studios are used and they made the blueprints, and to some degrees, the standard on how artists record their songs to these days.

And in this opinion of mine, I believe that Pink Floyd is the only other band to have come close to what The Beatles achieve.

Now I'm not disregarding what other artists, such as Zappa, VU, The Beach Boys, and other modern bands like the Mars Volta, have done great things on the studio. I'm just saying that those two bands are the most important and significant ones to have step into a studio (being mostly Abbey Road, coincidence?)

Sorry if I insulted other people's personal tastes, but that is what I think.

Seafroggys 03-19-2005 03:20 PM

Heh, I found it funny that Pink Floyd recorded at Abbey Road too.

Maybe that place has some magic?

Yes.
Some might argue that was hard for me to say, it wasn't.
And yeah, how's everyone doing? I haven't really had much time to be in here much lately, I've been organising crap on other parts of the forum, so for that, I apologise.

jpj 03-19-2005 03:28 PM

I got the Golden Road box set used today for $70. I think I like American Beauty now, I hate my flip-flopping opinions :upset:

Floyd > Zep

I only have American Beauty, Shakedown Street and Workingman's Dead, and I like Shakedown Street the least, but I love American Beauty and Workingman's Dead

Could anyone recommend what my next album should be?
EDIT: I am a folk junkie, if it matters

IAJP 03-19-2005 04:19 PM

Know nothing about the Dead, sorry.
I have a greatest hits and it's ok..

hah.. Greatest hits are such a temptation but I usually regret getting them, sometimes they overlook the best stuff, although I was impressed with Led Zeppelin's greatest having "Battle of Evermore"

symon 03-19-2005 04:25 PM

80s rock is the best music. Ever.

I like the Led Zeppelin greatest hits early days/latter days..

Wrong.
And wallrus, I agree, BOE is a fantastic song, not as good as When The Levee Breaks, which is IMO the best Zepp song.
