I really do hate when people underrate bonham though.
If you're saying I'm underatting him, that is coming out of left field. All I stated was that their are better drummer. Are there not? |
 oh you have soooooo much to learn.
you might want to consider greats such as.... Steve Gadd John Bonham Keith Moon Ginger Baker Ian Paice Mitch Mitchell Stewart Copeland Buddy Miles Are all of those guys better than peart? Certainly not. I'm willing to bet Gadd for one could give peart more than just a run for his money though.
have you seen peirt live? and steve gadd i agree and all those drummers are amazingi understand |
I really do hate when people underrate bonham though.
i do to and im trying to defend him |
see one of the many points im trying to make is that dead headsd are very narrow minded when it comes to better bands/ musiccians.
|
Sorry to interupt this fun argument, but could someone upload the song Cut My Hair by The Who? I don't trust the R/M YSI thread at all, and I know someone here will have it. Thanks

Don't say that Dead Heads are narrow-minded. You're basing this only on Badmoon and he's convinced that the Grateful Dead are the best band he's ever heard and that they are excellent musicians. And he has a right to his opinion. Your statement is what is known as prejudice. and it's pretty stupid to say that someone is the best ever at anything, you can have an opinion but don't think that your opinion is the final word on the matter and everyone else has to agree. |

I think you have a lot to learn about spelling, punctuation, and the English language in general. |
It's not very effective to try and back it up. Everyone has their own opinions. You're all going to have to agree to disagree.
|
If you're saying I'm underatting him, that is coming out of left field. All I stated was that their are better drummer. Are there not?
Well no I don't really mean to say your underrating him. But what I do mean to say is Bonham was an amazing drummer purely amazing. He power, his presence, his technical ability, are undeniable. And as well as getting overrated (or perhaps not overrated so much as underrating the others) he gets underrated aswell. I don't really mean to say your underrating him. (partly because working the whole thing out and going through the whole argument and defining what makes a good drummer and then what characteristics each drummer has is far too much for me to do right now) But lets just say your comments could be taken in a way which lead to a debate about it. |

Oh, so I am narrowminded, because he is basing his idea on a Deadhead on me? Not only do I take offense to that but disagree, and would say that you and various others are much more narrow minded than I. For one, I am sure I have heard much more than you interms of music. I am a fan and frequent listeners of much more genres than Rock and anything relating. Musicially, I believe my mind is far less narrow than you and ScuzzBucket. And why would I be narrow minded because I believe the Dead are the greatest band ever? Certainly I have heard many of other bands from many genres, but just because I choose that band as my favorite, I am narrow minded. |
have you seen peirt live? and steve gadd i agree and all those drummers are amazingi understand
I've heard many of his live-solos as well as videos from live perfomances and solos. And I have seen steve gadd live (mind you when I saw him he was playing far from 19/7/3 polyrhythms). I am willing to say Gadd could clearly top any of those drummers in terms of technical proficiency. |

Ya, but beleive me I was being very generous with that list. All of those are classic rock drummers. Edit: first post of page 1500 biatch. |
I think the whole concept of the term "classic rock" is stupid. The "classic rock" radio stations here play the same, tired Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller Band, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, etc. songs, but fail to recognize that there is more to that era then those bands. The Velvet Underground are horrifically ignored by the fat bastards that run the stations. "Classic rock" stations play it safe, and play what they think is "classic". [/rant]

You just did. He didn't state that I was narrow minded, but just Deadheads in general. So, you replied by saying "Not all Deadheads are". "You're just basing your opinion off of Badmoon", meaning I must be narrowminded. I would also like to say that I believe calling a Deadhead is just such a dumbass thing to say. One who listens to the Grateful Dead is most likely more exposed to so much more musical genres then a fan of an other Classic Rock band. |
Man, did I miss a huge arguement? Shucks. What'd I miss?

That was a better rant than most first time posters here. :thumb: MYR, start at post 37411, on page 1497, and read from there. |

Classic rock stations are no worse than any other types of radio stations in that respect. |

There isn't much you can do to make you more musical than someone else on the drums. (Not trying to offend any drummers, I'm just saying you can't play notes or chords, for example, on the drums.) |
technically...hmmm. how bout musicly?
Musically no. I know of no drummer that could take every other drummer musically. That's why I strayed from having an argument with badmoon. Technically yes, ofcourse there are other drummers better than bonham. Musically, well that's subjective and me and badmoon would most likely disagree, because I would put bonham up at the top (not all by his lonesome though). Musically I'd rather listen to gadd or bonham than peart though. |
and if you want me to stop with this argument i will please reply...
and badmoon i know your a dedicated music lover....more then me |

are you serious???????????????// have you heard cream rush the grateful dead any band in the history of rock and rolll??? the drummer is a key part to holding a band together |

Yea, when I saw "musically" I jumped to scales/chords/notes, didn't think that one through very much. |
Yea, when I saw "musically" I jumped to scales/chords/notes, didn't think that one through very much.
 no you really didn't. I mean really that was an amazingly ignorant thing to say. So much so, I still feel the need to argue my point despite you admitting your complete wrongdem. (I like that "word") |
Steve Gadd is amazing, not only techinically, he has unbelievable groove. Bonham has groove too.
I mean really that was an amazingly ignorant thing to say. So much so, I still feel the need to argue my point despite you admitting your complete wrongdem.
Ok man, you don't need to pile it on to him:lol: |
Alright, well until I really thought about it (just now), I considered music sounds arranged in a melody, but thinking about songs that are just drums (for instance, some Eastern music) caused me to realize that sounds arranged in rhythm (as opposed to melody) would also be considered music.
So yea, I was thinking pretty ignorantly when I made that comment, because I hadn't really thought about it completely until now. |
Steve Gadd is amazing, not only techinically, he has unbelievable groove. Bonham has groove too.
Gadd amazes me beyond amazement, possibly moreso than any other drummer, but I don't know if I can bring myself to definitively say anyone is better than some of the other amazing drummers such as bonham, I can never make up my mind on these types of things, I just flop about, Stupid lists. |
I also can't usually say if people are better than others, and I wasn't trying to, I just threw in that Bonham had groove since that topic was on my mind.
