Surf 10-13-2006 12:02 PM

it was horrible. but still, george orwell did it in paris, so obviously it must be a good thing.

weekends will be busy. you won't know where anything is, customers will be angry and it'll all go terribly.

how exciting

just kidding, waterstones always seems chilled out. i've actually sat and read in a store for about two hours once, whilst waiting for someone. they had nice chairs and didn't say anything. what lovely people.

Minus The Flair 10-13-2006 12:12 PM

wow, i feel super confident now. customers lol. iv never talked to customers before. they were just people. now they're CUSTOMERS! but yeh, nice place, should be alright. i hope....

Surf 10-13-2006 12:25 PM

the customer is never right. no mater what book they want, suggest a better one. and refuse to serve anyone trying to buy the da vinci code.

EmergencyRoom 10-13-2006 06:47 PM

I've always wanted to work in waterstones. Bookshop is my dream part time job. All those books all that discount. Never bored on your lunch break.

/dissolves into dreamlike state of envy

i like books...

If the customer ever says that they're right then find out where they live and then burn down their house. I hate 98% of consumers.

SubtleDagger 10-13-2006 06:50 PM

Refl first job

Be prepared to lose whatever life you had

slack 10-13-2006 06:54 PM

I tend to acquire books faster than I can read them.

slack 10-13-2006 06:59 PM

First jobs are great. You're young and happy and skinny and it's still fun to mess around with customers. It's only after your second, third, and fourth job that you start to feel reality sucking the life out of your bones, and when you get fat and comfortable, and you discover that every boss is really just the same dickhead with a different face.

SubtleDagger 10-13-2006 07:06 PM

My first job was the worst job I ever had

However with most people once you start working you never stop

slack 10-13-2006 07:11 PM

I was a Subway Sandwich Artist™.

1337 skillz, let me tell you.

SubtleDagger 10-13-2006 07:13 PM

I've known a bunch of people who have worked at Subway and every one has hated it

For some reason Subway is a huge draw for customers who are so stupid they probably shouldn't even be wandering around outside unattended much less getting fast food

slack 10-13-2006 07:29 PM

You mean like ... football teams?

haha, yes.

It wasn't too bad, though. Lots of free time and dinners and cookies and soda. Thank god for fast metabolisms.

SixStringKing 10-13-2006 08:07 PM

I worked in a grocery store.. that is the most pointless job in the world,,., one person could do the job, but they have three people working on it.. lmao.. as for the subway around here ive heard its not bad at all.. and i never really hear complaints about it

A_Perfect_Sonnet 10-13-2006 10:44 PM

I work seafood at a grocery store, and you don't want to know how long my manager let that fish sit in the case.

New store opens Monday, so I get to hang out there from now on.

Surf 10-13-2006 10:57 PM

its all good compared to having to wash out a pot of gravy that has been left to soak for a week. the gravy turns a lovely greeny grey and takes a form/fludge like form. its a treat for the fingers

SixStringKing 10-14-2006 01:03 AM

hmmm is there a way to check GMT without posting?

slack 10-14-2006 04:20 AM

It never fails. There is always a small guy in a tight shirt working out at the gym. And then there are the guys who slam the weights down because OMGZ tehr so heavie!!1!

Bah. Whatever.

Check the bottom of the page for GMT.

TheBigMachine 10-14-2006 04:25 AM

Dunno.

As for jobs, Ive never had one. Yay for lazyness. When I do, it will not involve food. Ill be too busy trying to eat it, or perhaps, as with Surf, exhaling it.

SixStringKing 10-14-2006 08:13 AM

yeah dude... jobs consume any life that you once had.. MEANING LESS TIME ON TEH FO12UMZ BAHHH!. im living off the money earned from my last job, trying to make it till xmas so my mommy and daddy can give me money muahaha.. then my birthday right after!!! woohoo.

Surf 10-14-2006 01:30 PM

TojesDolan 10-14-2006 02:19 PM

I looked for a job last summer and no one would hire me because I'm a student.

:\

Go figure. Apparently it's all the rage being a loser so you can earn little money.

Just wait untill you graduate bud, Then you get told you're "Over Qualified".

Surf 10-14-2006 02:34 PM

SubtleDagger 10-14-2006 02:51 PM

TojesDolan 10-14-2006 02:59 PM

Then I learned this summer that you shouldn't fill the application forms with real data, but just sufficient enough for people who contract dumb people think you're a an average Joe and then boom! You quit your job after 2 months and leave happy. Good times.

FA 10-15-2006 04:21 AM

homecoming ftw!

mass drunkeneness!

burt don't even respond...seriously...

Storm In A Teacup 10-15-2006 11:04 AM

Can someone give me a better phrasing for a piece of mine than, "come along, stop playing dumb", please?

Surf 10-15-2006 11:19 AM

"stfu"

whats the context/tone etc?

Storm In A Teacup 10-15-2006 11:26 AM

It's for my, "Holy Man, Murdering Man" piece.

Surf 10-15-2006 11:31 AM

"come along, stop playing dumb",

drop the entire verse and change it to:

"The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms"

Storm In A Teacup 10-15-2006 11:34 AM

oh shi

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Surf again.

Surf 10-15-2006 11:38 AM

er yeah

*You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to T S Eliot again

Storm In A Teacup 10-15-2006 12:02 PM

I don't read poetry, so I didn't know. :(

Surf 10-15-2006 12:38 PM

to be honest, not many people would have noticed if you put it in there. or you could reword it and call it a reference.

Minus The Flair 10-15-2006 01:45 PM

hard drives sucking suck. iv lost like everything important cause its blown up.

Surf 10-15-2006 01:55 PM

SubtleDagger 10-15-2006 01:57 PM

That's what I have the internet for

I rarely keep anything on paper or on my comp

Surf 10-15-2006 04:18 PM
I have connections.

Everyone try not to be dumbass spammers in here or Subtle will ban you.

This isn't the "I walked the dog, my name is Morrissey and I'm a girl" thread, it's to establish conversation about S&L related topics. If you want to be a worthless piece of shit, go to the pit.

So, anyway. Who enjoys the new Bright Eyes album?
Bright eyes <3.
