I checked out some Meshuggah...

Oh dear GOD!!! Probably the most repetitive metal band ever... they're awesome, but every song sounds exactly the same! Please Tool, DON'T DO THIS!!!
yea i saw them when they toured with Tool. There were some cool riffs, but it got real monotonous after about 10 minutes of one riff. No dynamics at all

misunderstood 03-08-2005 10:06 PM

I also got a chance to check them out when they were on the road with Tool...It was all right...Nothing to get all excited about...I don't know, maybe I was just so anxious for Tool to come out that I didn't really pay much attention to them...They did, however, get the crowd going. It got pretty wild so i had to actually get pulled out from the very front. It was getting harder and harder to breathe...It was all right though.

Werny 03-09-2005 04:39 AM

I got a burnt copy of Salival (I'm 15, I don't have the money to buy it!).

Meshuggah have kind of grown on me. "I" is a hardcore song/album. What is with Danny saying they're so technical? The drumming is pretty basic double bassing.

Are you a drummer? If so, then ignoe me. But with Meshuggah, its all about maintaining some insane polyrythyms. It takes a lot of stamina to keep u drumming like that, and its one trait that Danny admits is his weakness, that he lacks stamina with double bassing. Thats why he admires (insert drummer name here)

Well, double bass is cool but i wouldn't go with Tool if he over-used it. I think he uses it tastefully, anyway.

Wow, there is a lot of pages on this... i new so don't blame me if this sounds stupid but i think tool are just out to have a good time, most of their songs are half taking the piss out of themselves! i mean die eier von satan is a cake recipe and message to harry manback sounds uber evil but really its just his roommate trashed the place...

and although tool are a better band i think, i have to say apc are the most romantic thing ever... the lyrics are astounding, particularly on thirteenth step, i know a lot of people who dont like it but the nurse who loved me is gorgeous... sorry if i broke all the rules but theres sooooooo many!

I can see what you mean. It does kinda seem inhuman to keep up that machine gun drumming.

(i'm not a drummer YET, i'm hopefully starting lessons soon though)

For all of their time changes, they're so repetitive. They're getting more mature now though, I has a lot of slow instrumental parts a la Ticks & Leeches. I think that song/EP has the most psycho scream in history.

So after listening to Meshuggah, I think the new album will be more driving and forcefu.

Die Eier Von Satan is actually a hash cookie recipe.

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-09-2005 05:06 PM

It means Satan's Balls.

Darkness 03-09-2005 06:11 PM

Yeah but its a cookie recipe.

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-09-2005 06:18 PM

Has anyone ever tried it?

If i tried that recipe, i'd probably end up like that guy in "gaping lotus experience"
missed you dude, where you living now? I remember you said you moved
Yes, I've moved and I now live in Brisbane. Still getting settled though, and only come back to the forums between lectures. That should change once I get my laptop. :thumb:

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-09-2005 07:29 PM
Actually, it means "The Eggs of Satan"
That's its literal meaning, yes... Come on, People. Think outside the box! The song is tongue and cheek.

joemarsh 03-10-2005 06:41 AM

it sounds like hitler talking to me :D

Darkness 03-10-2005 06:29 PM

Yeah you can't judge Tool off that and say that there just out for a good time.

Kage 03-10-2005 06:57 PM

^^^ What are you on about?

How many people like the original version of The Nurse Who Loved Me better than APCs? I think both are great songs, it's too bad Failure isn't great other than that song.

BlindWriting 03-10-2005 06:58 PM

I've actually never heard Failure. That was Troy's band before joining APC, right?

Kage 03-10-2005 07:00 PM

Either before or after, I'm not sure. They're not a great band, at least to my tastes, but that one song is classic.

misunderstood 03-10-2005 07:07 PM

you know, i've never been able to find the original version of "the nurse who loved me"...where'd you find it?

Kage 03-10-2005 07:10 PM

Just on a P2P program...should be relatively easy to find. I can send it if you want, through AIM or something.

Darkness 03-10-2005 08:28 PM

Kage at the top of the page someone said that it seems like Tool is just out for a good time and used Die Eier Von Satan as an example.

Kage 03-10-2005 11:35 PM
Kage at the top of the page someone said that it seems like Tool is just out for a good time and used Die Eier Von Satan as an example.
Ah, well I'm not sure what Die Eier Von Satan is meant to say, but I wouldn't say Tool is just out for a good time. They have a major sense of humor though.

jamesclelland 03-11-2005 05:37 AM

i think it just means, not everything is what it seems.

kind of like LAMC is about how ****ed up the system is. just one of those wierd songs that you cant pin point but you can guess.

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-11-2005 01:52 PM

That and Message To Harry Manback ARE tongue and cheek, IMO. And no, Tool isn't JUST out for a good time; but would you agree that sometimes they're tongue and cheek.

I mean, just look at the music and the lyrics to Message to Harry Manback.
"I hope you Americans die of cancer"-meanwhile there is a nice piano in the background.

clearvision 03-11-2005 02:35 PM

Yeah they are just saying, so what buddy, you put a message on our answerphone, we will ridicule you in songs .

Kage 03-11-2005 02:36 PM

Besides, it's a good contrast, and I think Aenima has a lot of contrast running through its songs.

EDIT: For example, at one part on the song Aenema, Maynard is singing calmy with frantic double-bass drumming ("Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be") and then it launches into a guitar solo that starts out somewhat pleasant/calm and then transitions into more of a darker and frantic solo, which then leads into Maynard's whole "Fuck..." spiel and the whole mood of the song builds more tension.

This is the kind of thing that Aenima is great for.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-11-2005 03:02 PM

Just a question about Message to Harry Manback and Hooker with a Penis: Was HwaP a 'comeback' to Message to Harry Manback? If not, then what is the message there for anyways? Sometimes, Tool confuses me.

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-11-2005 03:06 PM

They both portray anger.

MTHM is about some guy who got kicked out of a party. HwaP is about fans who think they sold out.
