I thought you would like that he was a priest in the Church of Satan and had legitimate ties with Anton LaVey

Hey guys. Know any good post-rock or post-rock influenced bands with a vocalist? (i.e. Moving Mountains, Dredg.) Love the music that groups like Red Sparowes, Pelican, 65daysofstatic, Russian Circles, etc. make, but looking for some vocals as well. I've looked everywhere! Thanks guys.

Hmmm... Idk I mean I've always considered one of the criteria for being a post-rock band is not having vocals. But I can tell you to look into the bands Toe and Yndi Halda and And So I Watch You From Afar. Although they don't have vocals.

Well, perhaps what I am looking for isn't considered "post-rock". I can tell you that my favorite album is the Mayan Factor's - 44. Next is probably Dredg's - el Cielo. Maybe that would be considered more ambient/progressive rock???? I have been to last fm and did the whole similar artist and such and came up with nothing. I've browsed the charts, didn't really find a whole lot. (though i do like Orbs and Children Of Nova, thanks to you guys.)

I've tried Oceanside and just cannot get into them for whatever reason. (I'm nuts, right?)

Can you guys dig deep and pull out a winner for me??? Thank you. Sorry for being so picky :/

I am in a huge music funk right now.

Looking for something really depressing, something with akoustic guitars I guess, and a raw, torn whiskey voice.
I already know Steve von Til.

rasputin 10-19-2010 06:49 AM

johnny cash

Meatplow 10-19-2010 06:58 AM

The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy & The Lash

probably not quite what you are after but you should enjoy it if you haven't heard it already

Crysis 10-19-2010 07:09 AM

You could give Scott Kelly's album The Wake a try.

Murder by Death. Later albums have more of a whiskey voice. Though I prefer their first two hands down!

There's only a few Johnny Cash songs I like. And I kind of don't want to listen to JC because nowadays it's apparently hip to listen to Johnny Cash. Fucking people everywhere wearing JC merchandise. I bet they can't even name more than two songs they like.

I'll check out those other artists, thanks.

Need some more classical music, I like Arvo Part and stuff in a similar vein but just looking for some of the more essential stuff, good study music. Also trying to figure out where to start with Bach since the potentials for stuff to get is insane.

limonade 10-24-2010 08:28 PM

youre asking people on mx about classical music

Angmar 10-24-2010 08:30 PM

I'm sure a couple (maybe Meatplow) would have some suggestions.

Why you gotta be like that MANNN.

limonade 10-24-2010 08:31 PM

Meatplow 10-25-2010 01:34 AM

Berkay knows his classical, I would wait for him to post

Carl Orff - Carmina Burana
Gustav Holst - The Planets
Hildegard of Binger - A Feather on the Breath of God
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tchaikovsky - Symphony 6 "Pathétique" in B minor Op
Gounod - Faust

also get the soundtrack to Barry Lyndon, it's full of great stuff mixed in with some irish folk and traditional music. I remember it being OOP last time I checked so i'll post it here -

Idk, maybe Chopin or Ludovico Einaudi or even Nachtreich. Not really the same thing, but great stuff.

Good call btw, I'd like to get to know some more music similar to Arvo Pärt as well.

rasputin 10-25-2010 08:46 AM

tchaikovsky's symphony no. 5 and 6 (especially 6, which is my favourite classical recording of all time)
bach's got some good shit, but i think you (and most people here) would prefer his organ works
also absolutely any of chopin's piano concertos, the same with rachmaninoff
satie is also good, you would probably dig it
and maybe wagner, the proto-fascistic vibe to his music is awesome

and then you have your usual beethoven, mozart and strauss, i won't bother with specific recs

limonade 10-25-2010 12:03 PM

erik satie? HIPSTER CLASSICAL!!!!!!!
