Worst thing is is these things have been happening infrequently for a LOOOONG time now. The question remains why hasn't it gotten steadily worse (until now) and where the hell did I get it from?

You might want to tell her to get tested too, if it comes up positive.

It could be not an STI, but chronic kidney stones or a minor case of something resulting from/related too. Either way you should be seeing a doctor as soon as possible.
