I used to have Kazaa but when I got my new computer I didn't want to download it again, as it was slowing up my computer pretty bad and I think I got a virus through it, although that can't be proved. One of these days I may get it back I guess.
SFK: I thought better of you than to come here and start a flame-war.
Lars is by no means the greatest drummer in the world, but he is far more than competent and definately does not "suck"

Photo: As LFDY said - Kazaa
Nah, I didnt come here to start a flame war, I really don't like Lars and was just shouting it out. It kind of evolved into a "discussion" then I thought I would try to sway a young drummer from his wayward path!

Now I shall clear up my Lars comments. I think he does suck. Its my opinion, everyone has one. I will say this, as I said earlier, I LOVED Lars and was a HUGE Lars fan when he actually played drums. I fear Lars has become to stagnant to ever regain his skills. It would take alot of effort on his part to get back to the skill level he was at in his early career. Being the fan I was I took all his laziness personal hence my deep seated anger towards his drumming skills. Anyway, its a dead horse, has been a dead horse for years, and this will probably be the very last time I bring it up. Now, if someone else brings it up its fair game!
Metallica ROCK!
in my opinion the best band out
fave song has to be sanitarium (for now anyway, i change a lot)
dude there is alot better bands than metallica now...... personally i think megadeth is better...

RideThePuppets 05-04-2004 12:55 PM

Metallica have stood the test of time. Whether you are a die-hard fan of theirs or not, you can't help but give them all the respect they deserve. It's their ability to play anything they want, (blues, thrash, rock-ballads), and play it well that I respect the most. Most of all they're an inspiration, not only to the fans but also to other bands.
Personally I prefer their older stuff, Puppets, R.T.L, K.T.A but there's nothing of theirs I don't like. <--That emoticon says it's cool, but he looks like a geek.

RideThePuppets 05-04-2004 01:41 PM

Wow, I killed that conversation then!

Burdcheese 05-04-2004 01:42 PM

photophobic...DL kazaa...search for Kazaa lite.......uninstall kazaa...no more spyware...that said

Daney Carey puts Lars to shame as a drummer. I loved Lars drumming on the Big 3 metallica records (lightning, master, Justice.) after that i hated lars playing. watching them live was cool, Lars has good skillz, he just doesnt use them anymore, and has probably lost them. I do not listen to any new metallica, its beyond generic.

Daney Carey: im sure u have someone u know that listens to Tool. If u can find any song from Aenima and you will realize how far short Lars falls as far as technique goes. If I could recommend some songs, The grudge (lateralus) 46and2 (Aenima). <- both these 2 songs have drum solos in them and they are insane. other songs: Third eye, Undertow, Triad (instrumental)

If you do DL kazaa lite, and u search for tool, you will find a Daney Carey drum solo on there. Simply amazing ****. There is also a song on Salival called Merkaba, where he solos in 11/8, soling over a vocal phrase, keeping in time with the phrase as hes soloing.

Other drumers that I feel are way better than Lars: carter beauford (Dave Matthews Band) Check out The Dreaming tree, The Stone, Warehouse

Neil Pert (Rush) check out Natural Science, Jacobs Ladder, Subdivisions Tom Sawyer.

Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) Check out Erotomania, A Change Of Seasons Fatal Tragedy (Dream Theater) and When The Water Breaks, Acid Rain, Paradigm Shift universal Mind. (Liquid Tension, an instrumantal project that is insane, check this stuff out regardless)

I dont think Metallica can ever redeem themselves in my eyes. How they went from a masterpiece like justice to hit singles on Black ill never get over...and Load, BlowLoad, and st anger are all piles of puss IMO...

Burdcheese 05-04-2004 03:37 PM

I finally got round to buying myself Reload at the weekend. The first time I listened to it I hated it. However second listening it really grew on me. There's some odd stuff on there - kind of trippy in a way - but its all pretty cool. Not thrash obviously, but it shows great musical variety.

naboo 05-04-2004 03:43 PM

^^ Dude (ToolOwnz), you didn't like his drumming on ...And Justice For All?! I think his drumming was at best on that album even though it was a little loud in the mix.

gernm17 05-04-2004 07:59 PM

^ i agree his drumming on justice is just awesome, the whole album it's great

and master of puppets too, i dont know why people keep saying the first 2-3 albums bull****, the best one by far was ajfa(i'm talking about drumming)

the first 2 albums there was a lot of just fast playing, in mop and ajfa, there's a little of everything, and if u want fast u get the 2 fastest songs here, battery and dyers eve and blackened's drums are amazing too(love the double bass)

Scotti912 05-05-2004 02:15 AM

I never thought his drumming was good on justice. Whenever I listen to it on my computer I hit the mouse with my thumb and it sounds like his snare.
^^ Dude (ToolOwnz), you didn't like his drumming on ...And Justice For All?! I think his drumming was at best on that album even though it was a little loud in the mix.
na man i loved the drumming on justice. Ill look over my post again maybe I didnt type it right..for my 14th birthday I got a series10 (lol) jimi style flying V, a POS Gorilla amp, ..And justice for all (cassette tape w00t) and the ...and justice for all tab-book...the rest is history. Justice is my fav metallica album..Its going from Justice to Black that i have a problem with. The Sound quality on justice could have been better, you can heardly hear the bass guitar, and the mix is insane (due to james putting down like 8 rhythm guitars)...Now, I would like to hear Justice remixed like the black album was. I actually like the 'sound' of the black album, its just the songs that suck. (My Friend of misery is pretty cool)

btoto 05-05-2004 07:57 AM

i guess St.Anger has the best drumming since Justice album.
what do you guys think?

livefastdieyoung 05-05-2004 08:42 AM
I never thought his drumming was good on justice. Whenever I listen to it on my computer I hit the mouse with my thumb and it sounds like his snare.
The sound of his snare has nothing to do with his drumming man.
I've never really liked Lars, but his drumming fits the music,i have to give him that :) .Take for instance One.I like that song a lot.But i haven't learnt to drum it,because i think it's really boring to drum(except for the double bass part,i love that  ).Lars is decent, but he is overrated. But his drumming fits the music,so...

SlaveToTheGrind 05-05-2004 09:11 AM

i don't think hes overrated, just because most people say that he isn't a good drummer.

AND NOW THIS DISCUSSION STOPS!

we'll discuss another topic now...

Touché

I am just so pissed off with all these "[insertnamehere] is overrated!!!!!!1" discussions particularly in this thread - its for people who like Metallica and the people in it.

Don't come here to say someone "sucks" - sure its your opinion, but take it elsewhere

(Just to add to what Slave said)

SlaveToTheGrind 05-05-2004 09:57 AM

what should we talk about now?

Burdcheese 05-05-2004 10:04 AM

erm....

The musical variety of the loads
Anticipation for the new album
How great Metallica are live
How great Metallica are.

???

Burdcheese 05-05-2004 10:06 AM

Alright whats the best lesser-known Metallica song?

SlaveToTheGrind 05-05-2004 10:06 AM

the musical variety of the loads is good

SlaveToTheGrind 05-05-2004 10:07 AM

the most known song: nothing else matters
the least known song: leper messiah

Burdcheese 05-05-2004 10:08 AM

Or we could just wait for some n00b to come along with one of their "I love metallica my favourite songs are x,y,z" and discuss...

SlaveToTheGrind 05-05-2004 10:12 AM

no. i don't like waiting

Burdcheese 05-05-2004 10:19 AM

Was it you who was trying to win the Metallica tickets a while back?
If so, did you win?

SlaveToTheGrind 05-05-2004 10:20 AM

i don't know. the competition ends in 10 days..

superpeer 05-05-2004 10:24 AM

I'm seeing them in July.
