well, if u want to keep in zildjian then i'd definatly say oriental trash, but if u decide to stop being a brand whore then go Sabian AAXplosion

ComicalMischief 01-21-2006 01:26 PM

Actually...you know, this question has itched at me for a little while..

Why are they called china boys?

chewaz 01-21-2006 02:03 PM

because it's a from china? O.O or it's like a smaller version of a chinese gong, bing chinas sound "gongy"

saars 01-21-2006 07:21 PM

to me, the oriental china sounds too trashy... and so does the a custom... but hey, that's just me.

anyways, I saved up about 240 USD and I'm looking to replace my 14" ZXT crash. I want a crash that is a bit dark, but not that light sounding. I'm going along the lines of sabian, zildjian, and paiste cause that's what my local GC carries. In zildjian, I'm looking at a 17" or higher A custom projection crash. In sabian, I'm looking at a paragon crash. I haven't looked much at paiste, so I can't say anything there. Those two cymbals are just what matched my taste, but if you have any more suggestions, throw em at me. Oh, I'm also looking for a good sounding splash. I played an a zildjian 10" splash. It sounded wonderful.

P.S. I play alternative rock and jazz.

Tim 01-21-2006 07:44 PM

Might want to look into an HHX stage crash. those are awesome.

Time 01-21-2006 08:13 PM

first of all, i have a 16" sabian XS20 medium thin crash, i was wondering what peoples opinions on that were. also, i want a durable ride for all types of rock, i like zildjian but i could handle other companies.

i dont really like anything from the xs20 line. I like the b8 pros better. Im sure its good though, nothing wrong with that crash. As far as rides go, look into a Sabian A rock ride, good for rock and other music too.

Tim 01-21-2006 09:05 PM

I didnt want to start a whole thread on this so i decided to put this in here seeing how it is the cymbal thread. Ive narrowed my ride choices down to 4 different rides. Its gonna be tough. THey are all sabian because sabian is way cheaper here than zildjians. Zildjians here are stupid expensive. Ride List:

HHX groove ride
HH Rock ride
HH Heavy Ride
AA Rock ride

cole363636 01-21-2006 09:35 PM

i want to buy some cymbals, what shpuld i buy. name and kind?

cole363636 01-21-2006 09:36 PM

*Bump*

saars 01-21-2006 09:39 PM

um... why the hell do you bump a sticky?! and you bumped 1 minute after you posted. =/

anyways, the next time i go to GC, i shall try to use my ear to get the best crash. any more suggestions? also, any more suggestions to buying a splash?

Yeah...I was asking about the "boys" part. I've heard people say stuff about their "china boys" and I never understood what they ment.

PS. Anyone know where I can order Stagg cymbals online?

I have the HH Rock Ride 20". I like it alot. Very clear sticking, and the bell is beautiful.

I just tried the 21" AA Rock ride trad, and I love it, Rock crashes, rides and hats sound better in traditional finish!! well almost all cymbals, i really want to try out the 22" HH heavy ride, do you have specs on the sound?

They took the "boy" part out of the names.

Hey guys, I am looking for the equvilent(sp?) of Zildjian Mastersounds in Sabian. I like the sound of the Mastersounds, but i can't really afford them, and i know that Sabian is generally a little cheaper. I was looking at the AAX stage hats. Any Avise??

Try HHX Groove Hats. They're amazing. I'm not sure about the price though. If you want that quality, you might have to dish out a little more for it.

Drum Phil 01-22-2006 12:26 PM

AAXcellerator hats

KK2K5 01-22-2006 12:55 PM

Do you guys think Stagg DH's are better than the price you pay for them?

Drum Phil 01-22-2006 01:09 PM

Yes.

Plan B. 01-22-2006 02:26 PM

GUYS!!!

Somebody's got to get ontop of these posts! Many people are going unanswered here. I put my time in two years ago when I was more active. Right now there's noone, we must pass the cymbal knowledge torch.

Heimir-iceland 01-22-2006 04:02 PM

Okay i whod lika a metal/rock sound ?

Tim 01-22-2006 04:19 PM
Okay i whod lika a metal/rock sound ?
in what cymbal(s)? hats?crash?ride?china?splash? what? budget would help too

CasB 01-22-2006 04:24 PM

Man...You can use every cymbal you want....it's just a matter of the sound _you_ like...there is no "this cymbal is for that music".

Listen to cymbals and if you like them, buy them.

Bullet for My Valentine 01-22-2006 05:11 PM

Drum Phil 01-22-2006 05:13 PM
