Pretty good interview. Robbie Buck does a good job. Interviewing Tool would not be easy.

RideTheSpiral 05-04-2006 09:19 AM
Yeah, Triple J is the best rock radio station out there. They always get good interviews. And on Saturday, Tool are guest programming Rage (music video show). Which goes for a good 6 hours. It's gonna be awesome. They are being real freindly to us Australians.
Hey Adelaide me too.

Dried Muffin Remnants 05-04-2006 01:08 PM

"The Retard King" haha... interesting interview to say the least.

Dried Muffin Remnants 05-04-2006 01:36 PM
The Pot is the coolest song on 10,000 Days. Wings is pretty epic still though. I noticed that alot of the tracks don't get good until the second half of the song and the first half is kind of annoying.
I agree with this completely. I.e. Right in Two, Jambi, and Rosetta Stoned.

Lunch 05-04-2006 01:47 PM

I don't mean to interupt the current conversation here, but is there anything to the whole alternate track order on Lateralus, or is that just some completely over-the-top concept?

JamJar 05-04-2006 01:51 PM

I'm not too sure but I'd probably say it's probably a completely over the top concept.
VISIONS: Another side effect is that your psychedelic visual style and your image do fire your fans’ imagination. There are people who say you have to listen to Lateralus beginning with the centred song Parabola towards the outside, others see occult…
Keenan: That’s bull****. That is all bull****. Every human does search for moments in which all makes sense. And those who search in music, will find. People have developed countless theories about Tool songs and what they mean. Theories about the playing order on our albums or the lyrics which can be reduced to a numeric pattern. Occultism equals fear. Much like religions, radical people use the occult to manipulate others. Most people who are practising those strange disciplines want truth. Because they’re tired of the lies which are told to them.
I read this in an interview a few days ago and thought it was pretty interesting.

Edit: In case you're still interested in that whole alternate order, here it is from wikipedia:
6,7,5,8,4,9,3,10,2,11,1,12,13 ("The Lateralus Prophecy"), or 6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10 ("The Holy Gift"). These arrangements are rumoured by fans to produce different storylines for the album, although the band has said nothing official on the subject.
there is something and it sounds pretty cool but it's most probably a coincidence, someone should give you a link

Jambi live

Shadius 05-04-2006 02:16 PM

Yeah, but it is very pretentious. I mean look at their dubbed names;

"The Lateralus prophecy"
"The Holy Gift"

It's only putting songs in a different order on an album, and some happen to flow into each other a little bit, probably by coincidence. It's not ground breaking, or even vaugely exciting, IMO.

Updated songs in order:

10,000 Days
The Pot
Vicarious
Right in Two
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Jambi
Wings
Intension

I still consider Lipan Conjuring to be one of Tool's better filler tracks, I can't see what's so annoying about it at all. It's way more fluid than anything from Ænima, and I prefer it to Eon Blue Apocalypse, which I find rather boring.

Rosetta Stoned would be above Right in Two... but I can't help but shake other songs from it at the moment.

I am listening to Wings before 10,000 Days a fair bit now, and if i had to listen to both songs together, i'd place it under The Pot and above Vicarious.

deadohiosky9 05-04-2006 04:30 PM
Did anyone else order a copy from Gray's website? I've yet to do so, but I still plan on it. :-D
I ordered a copy too.

Favorite songs so far:

Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Wings for marie/10,000 Days
Right In Two
Jambi
Vicarious
The Pot
Intension
Viginti Tres

I found Lipan Conjuring to be fairly amusing. It's a good filler track, IMO.

I totally agree with.I hate most of the filler tracks on Anima. But i must say i really enjoy Eon Blue Apocalypse.

So, I finally went and picked up my copy of 10 000 Days from HMV. Good thing I put it on order, since my copy was the last one left in the store. Seems the Australia-wide shipment was minus 20 000 albums. :-/

Anyways, I've only listened to the album inthe car so far, but I really like it. Undertow will still remain my favourite album, methinks, but this one is really growing on me. I'll wait and see where it places compared to the other three.

Anyways, the stereoscope included is great. I've encountered them in Geology, and they're very boring and cause great eye-strain. Using them in the booklet, however, is very cool and so far I'm not experiencing any discomfort. Kudos to all those involved in the art. :)

Kage 05-04-2006 05:49 PM

Haha, I still haven't bought the album. My brother bought it, but he's off at college. We usually share CDs, so it'd be useless for me to buy a second copy. I'll just wait until he gets home from school next week.

RideTheSpiral 05-04-2006 06:00 PM

I don't really get people who like Undertow the most. It's such an average album...

SeAmoNKeY 05-04-2006 06:06 PM

Was anybody else at least slightly pissed off at the construction of the packaging? Not the concept, but the way it was put together. I open the thing for the first time and the first thing i notice is that the little pocket that holds the cd is all offcenter and sticks out fo the package slightly. The sides look like they've been held together with electrical tape. And it sounds like someones doing construction work outside my window every time i touch it.

All really minor things, but i would have thought that a band like Tool would put a higher value on the aesthetics of something they spent this much time on. (not that they are to blame for the mistakes)
One thing I can't stand about this album is the wretched creaking everytime I open the cd case. Just for that, I give this album a .5 out of 100.

I don't really get people who like Undertow the most. It's such an average album...
Not really. It's actually quite good, musically, and I prefer it because it's more "raw" if you will. Sure, Lateralus has some awesome songs, and Aenima has my two favourite Tool songs, but as a solid album, I always prefer Undertow.

Don't know where this is coming from, since mine is completely normal. Sure the pocket sticks out slightly, but nothing to write home about. And mine is completely silent when I pick it up.

I had some trouble getting the CD out of that little pocket without running into the booklet. It was a bit frustrating.

Moses 05-04-2006 06:29 PM

I have a suspicion that they didn't really spend that much time on the cd. I also think they should have mixed the vocals more in the front, more like on The Pot.

The pocket on mine is perfectly centered, but it does squawk a bit when I open it.

Shadows Rise 05-04-2006 06:49 PM

I purchased the new Tool album today. I am happy to say it's one the greatest albums i've ever purchased. But what interested me just as much as the music about this. Is the artwork. Is there some hidden meaning behind it? I'm not so sure the lenses are working right for me on this, because Everything's just blurry when I look at it. I don't know though, maybe im just being stupid and using them the wrong way haha.

Darkness 05-04-2006 06:50 PM

Yeah my only problem with the album is the vocals should be a little louder, even though they just wanted it to sound like another instrument.

misunderstood 05-04-2006 06:50 PM
The pocket on mine is perfectly centered, but it does squawk a bit when I open it.
Same here. I really have no complaints about it.

Moses 05-04-2006 06:51 PM

Sometimes it seems like they made riffs in a odd time sig and it kind of sounds forced.

SeAmoNKeY 05-04-2006 08:16 PM

I guess my particular copy of the album was slightly retarded in production, or maybe its because i live in New Mexico and everything is slightly retarded here.

mudvayne420 05-04-2006 08:31 PM

I think this new direction is good for them, and i also think its their best cd to date. IMO this sounds like an experimental album, but with a good side, wings(part 1 & 2).

I have also noticed the riffs from past albums and i thought, maybe these are references to those songs theme's cause the rosetta stoned riff that sounds like third eye, could be that he opened his eye at that point and realized he forgot his pen. Thats what i think though so it probably doesn't matter.

my fav. song now is intension which is funny cause its their least fav. song on 10,000 days. If you don't count lipan conjuring as a song.

CaptainWaits 05-04-2006 08:55 PM

So I listened to 10,000 Days today, and here's my very brief review...

The album's Solid, and GOOD, but not GREAT. It doesn't have that strong feel I've notcied in Lateralus and Aenima. It lacks some good Tool elements I can't quite list yet. The album was still deffinetly worth my 10 bucks however, and it's my favorite cover/art work of any of their material yet.

Lunch 05-04-2006 08:56 PM

I feel pretty much the same way. Too many solid parts, not enough great parts. Adam Jones' "chuggiga" riff that he uses pretty much nonstop is really getting old to me already.
