irrelevant. there isn't one guitarist out there who would suit Metallica better, and that's all that matters.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-25-2006 04:10 AM
I personally find Martys playing dull. Hes decent, skillwise, thats for sure.
And Kirk's playing isn't?

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 04:29 AM

im sorry, i dont see how either of you came to any such conclusion about either artist. they both create fantastic music, and their sounds is iconic thrash.

My Friend of Misery = Fucking Masterpiece. Amirite?

ever eeking always rupert 03-25-2006 08:02 AM

Haha I just raised Fuel's key by a half-step. It almost sounds Black-albumish now :D
My Friend of Misery = Fucking Masterpiece. Amirite?
you are. the whole album is a masterpiece.
Haha I just raised Fuel's key by a half-step. It almost sounds Black-albumish now :D
now that could be interesting

ever eeking always rupert 03-25-2006 08:14 AM

I've now listening to Unforgiven II a half step up. Very interesting stuff. A nice fresh way of listening to it too

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 08:15 AM

lol how do you step it up then? i thought you meant you were playing it on geetar half a step up.

ever eeking always rupert 03-25-2006 08:18 AM

Well I went into control panel, then sound, speech and audio devices, and then "Sound Effects Manager". In this thing I can cancel the voice out, raise and drop the key by 4 half steps, and a load of other stuff. I don't know if this "Sound Effects Manager" comes standard with every computer, how I got I don't know, but it's here to stay :)

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 08:30 AM

wow nice i wasn't aware you could do that. propably because i cant, i dunno if its on my computer.

Jev 03-25-2006 09:10 AM

There's some site that has some of Metallica's songs in the major key instead of the minor. I can't remember the adress but it sounded pretty cool.

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 09:13 AM

lol that would be cool. sad but true happy version in the major, that would be funny.

Jev 03-25-2006 09:21 AM

By the way, ever heard of Cacophony?
lol that would be cool. sad but true happy version in the major, that would be funny.
I'm not sure if that's one of them, I know they do Unforgiven.

Squirrel 03-25-2006 09:22 AM

Whoah, long time no post here.

What do you think is Metallica's saddest or most melancholic song ? Either in the music or in the lyrical context.

I think lyricaly and in the subject matter, Mama Said is bastardly saddening.
Never I ask of you
But never I gave
But you gave me your emptiness
I now take to my grave

So, let this heart be still

Mama, now I'm coming home
I'm not all you wished of me
A mother's love for her son
Unspoken, help me be

Yeah, I took your love for granted
Not a thing you said to me
I need your arms to welcome me
But a cold stone's all I see
Especially.

Jev 03-25-2006 09:24 AM

I agree with you on Mama Said. I don't give a shit if it's country or whatnot, I still love it.

Squirrel 03-25-2006 09:26 AM

The country feel suits it imo.

Jev 03-25-2006 09:38 AM

There's a live acoustic version of it somewhere on the net. I like it much better like that.

Squirrel 03-25-2006 09:41 AM

I cant download from p2p/torrents on my uni net connection.

Guess im boned.

Kyle 03-25-2006 09:41 AM

I don't think Metallica exploited the counrty-ish sound enough, I love it. Bleeding Me is one of the most Melancholic songs for me, such a great song.

I think it's on YouTube but I can't be bothered to search through 1,000 pages of Metallica videos.
What do you think is Metallica's saddest or most melancholic song ? Either in the music or in the lyrical context.
There's quite a few that spring to my mind.

A lot of The Outlaw Torn, for sure.

The bit in Bleeding me, before the solo, where he says, "I can't take it, I can't take it, I can't take it, oh the bleeding of me."

The end of Fixxxer, where he says, "To fall in love with life again" a few times. also at the very end where he says, "No more pins in me, no more, no more, no, no, noooo" I love that bit.

The acoustic bit half way through To Live is To Die. Probably my favourite acoustic thing Metallica did.

Low Man's Lyric. "And I cry to alleyway, confess all to the rain." I almost orgasm every time I hear him sing that bit. You heard me.

My World too. "Godddddd, it feeeels, like it only raaains on meee. God, oh god it feels, like it only rains on me, like it only rains on me"

Amirite?

Edit: I've done that key-raising thing with St. Anger

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 09:48 AM

not including garage inc.:
one isn't exactly melancholic, but it sure is harrowing, what with the theme of the change between the blissful melody at the beginning, and then the frantic earbeating at the end.

nothing else matters has to be their most melancholic(is that a word?).

yeah, Mama said is a sad but brilliant song.

Low Mans lyric

to live is to die is certainly very desperately tearful in the middle where you get that muffled clean melody on the guitar, and it builds up again.(previously mentioned)

Orion becomes a very solitary song halfway through, with that bass riff.

FADE TO BLACK, BABY! that song kicks sheer a*s. really sad, and the fade out has an incredibly "desperate" kind of sadness to it.

It's funny how they made such a sad song about the loss of equipment.

Squirrel 03-25-2006 09:54 AM

The Outlaw Torn is a horrific song [lyrically and in its topic], his voice is just perfect. The 'You make me smash the clock and feel, i'd rather die behind the wheel, time was never on my side, so on i wait my whole life time.' line is just sung with so much desperation it sounds so real.

Also, in The Unnamed Feeling, the line James sings the 'Cross my heart hope not to die ..' verse and the 'I want to hate it all away' are jsut mesmerisingly powerful.
It's funny how they made such a sad song about the loss of equipment.
Haha yeah. I remember speaking to one of my friends about this a while ago. We were discussing how someone could possible say: "There is nothing more for me, need the end to set me free," or "I have lost the will to live, simply nothing more to give," over having their property stolen.

Then again, weren't they really poor back then? I dunno

Yeah they were pretty poor, seeing as they didn't really make it big until the black album.

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 10:01 AM

lol the power of music... i just love the feelings some 'tallica songs an give you, its great.

Blanka Flip 03-25-2006 10:12 AM

Hey guys- I just thought of this the other night -

Wouldn't it be something if they went ahead and recorded a kickass stuido version of No Leaf Clover and through it in on the new album? I think it would be great. They did it live this past tour, with no orchestra, and I think it stands it's own with just the band. It would be pretty silly if they like named the album No Leaf Clover- That would be overkill- But what if they put in on the cd?

SimonCore 03-25-2006 10:13 AM

What albums 'I disapear' on?

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 10:21 AM

its a single, written for Mission Impossible.

Jurassic metal, according to Kirk.

SimonCore 03-25-2006 10:33 AM

^what the hell is jurassic metal?

Stoo 03-25-2006 10:35 AM

Well back in the Jurassic period, Dinosaurs hadn't discovered Metal, there was only Rock.

It will be a Rock album. :smoke:
