Took me like 1 min to find this.
it proves zilch |
Good response bro.
|
just saying, i don't really think the whole thing is purely a joke at the expense of his peers
|
in what way is it making fun of it
seemed to be advocating it to me
Right over your head. |
If you aren't gonna try then this convo is pointless.
|
try what
argue with some journalist in the absence of the presentation of your own opinion if it is just a parody of BEE then it's a pretty meaningless story |
Journalist? Most of it is a direct quote from DFW. What's wrong with you? Did you even read it?
Don't let this ^^^go ova your head btw. |
I see you are pretty bad in argumentative situation, unless it's against an idiot like Mappy.
|
Journalist? Most of it is a direct quote from DFW. What's wrong with you? Did you even read it?
Don't let this ^^^go ova your head btw.
the part concerning the particular story we are talking about is not a direct quote from dfw |
try what
argue with some journalist in the absence of the presentation of your own opinion
The bolded part bold is the journalist's only personal input. I'm pretty sure that wasn't absence from my argument. Four years before the interview—and two years before the publication of American Psycho—Wallace mocked Ellis’s void, vacuous characters in “Girl with Curious Hair,” a story about a yuppie on LSD at a Keith Jarrett concert. With no affective life, Sick Puppy (as his low life punk rock friends call him) feels nothing. He cannot enjoy his wealth, his position—not even his acid trip. He can’t even enjoy sex unless he can burn his partner as he’s being fellated. As Marshall Boswell points out in his study Understanding David Foster Wallace, “the story eerily forecasts . . . American Psycho . . . in a grisly and hilarious pastiche of Ellis’ preposterously benumbed prose.” |
hnd why do you care so much about this its adorable
|
The bolded part bold is the journalist's only personal input. I'm pretty sure that wasn't absence from my argument.
yes and it is also the only part that explicitly mentions the story, which was written four years before the interview and two years before american psycho so, you know the interview itself doesn't necessarily have much bearing on that particular story |
So, what you are saying is that there is no proof the DFW negative rant on BEE and Co is connected with GWCH.
Seriously, try harder. |
Do I need to find a DFW quote were he explicitly states it to appease your stupidity?
I guess so, as we've concluded things need to be spelled out for you. |
So, what you are saying is that there is no proof the DFW negative rant on BEE and Co is connected with GWCH.
Seriously, try harder.
well the rant quite explicitly concerns american psycho, which was two years away when GWCH was published |
things need to be spelled out for you.
the word is evidenced or at least, you know, argued |
What?
in what way is it making fun of it seemed to be advocating it to me
You know DFW would be rolling in his grave. |
STEVEN
STEVEN ARE YOU THERE I'm slowly working on my German pronunciation can you listen to this and comment http://vocaroo.com/i/s0izYhvGZETx |
I will listen.
|
I stumble here and there and I know I pronounced some words wrong
|
Yeah some of the word clusters were a bit tongue twisty but that's to be expected, the biggest thing I noticed and what is probably easiest to mess up on is the pronunciation of R's at the beginning of a word, it's not really like you do it in English it's kind of supposed to be from the back of your throat with a slight roll to it but lot's of people are just lazy about it and don't care.
It sounded pretty good overall though. |
Okay yeah I realized I was pronouncing the Rs wrong halfway through. Thanks man.
|
What?
You know DFW would be rolling in his grave.
nah he'd be calmly explaining whether it's an outright literary parody or a social satire and also acknowledging that he has no direct control over this and all that matters is what is presented to the reader |
Pretty sure he'd be embarrassed for you. Especially since you said he was advocating the very writing he despises.
|
i never said he's advocating the writing
just the notion sustained by the writing |
He's not trying to support the, lol, "notion sustained by the writing"
Try again. |
well he's succeeding even if he's not trying but you have no idea if he was at the time of writing it so
