honestly, i wont be able to check it out for another hour. I get off work in 22 minutes, and theres a 30 minute drive.

I ALWAYS assume tabs for TOoL songs have parts wrong, just out of sheer experience with this band and tabs. I usually get about 3 "good" ones, compare and contrast, and put my own spin on things

kurrpt 05-03-2006 02:50 PM

...hence my belief that people should keep their "ideas" about the songs to themselves

Adam Jones is GOD 05-03-2006 03:08 PM

Ok, the albums hit me. I've just caught myself trying to hum the Jambi solo. Now im outta breath

centrum 05-03-2006 03:50 PM

I heard Justin Chancellor quit the band to start breading wild hawks and also to travel with his collection of candles.

Good timing, as MJK just ran off with the model in the mirror, and Danny set fire to himself due to whatever was in that pot

EinzingerIsGod 05-03-2006 04:01 PM

I honestly was disappointed with this cd the first time through, but that was because I was expecting immediate satisfaction from Tool.

Now after some more listens I realize that this album is amazing, and a nice departrure from Lateralus in many respects.

incubliss 05-03-2006 04:02 PM

Is anyone else here going to the London show? I'm gonna buy a ticket on eBay next week.

I could push it further by adding that ill see the Deftones before Tool. And possibly Dredg, but they clash with SYL AND Cathedral, which is the worst thing the organisers could have done to me

Iai's finally put up a good 10k Days review btw, the last 3 were terrible.

:-)

10,000 days is getting alot more people into Tool. Espescially in the drum forum. Everything Danny touched upon on this album was something new.

deadohiosky9 05-03-2006 04:27 PM

AJIG, how was Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned live? Did Maynard do all the distorted vocals and such?

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=6669
The only problem with that review is someone who is not a drummer saying danny repeated himself  That is laughable.
(particularly in the case of the latter, who recycles several fills and drum patterns from earlier albums here)
Made me chuckle, That is why I can't take most reviewers seriously.

Not sure if this has been posted before:

Yeah, Triple J is the best rock radio station out there. They always get good interviews. And on Saturday, Tool are guest programming Rage (music video show). Which goes for a good 6 hours. It's gonna be awesome. They are being real freindly to us Australians.

Darkness 05-03-2006 08:32 PM

Alright, I've listened to the album several times with my un-divided attention since yesterday. Here's what I think...

Anyone who was disappointed in the album, I think you may have just had either this pre made idea of what the album would sound like in your head, or you heard it under the wrong circumstances. When I put this on for the first time I had no distractions, only Tool in my head. And after Vicarious ended, I didn't know what to expect. Then Jambi came on, and I was relieved. The song does repeat the chuggige to much, but it's still solid, and the solo rocks. Then I heard Wings for Marie and the title track... my god! This is some of the most emotional stuff I've heard from the band, and not just Maynard. Some brilliant melodies and lyrics here. The Pot's intro vocals were a bit strange... but the song gets really good as it goes along. Number 6 was terrible. Worst thing Tools ever done, but oh well, I think it's forgiveable. Then I heard Lost Keys... I thought it was cool, but I was like "uh.. ok..?" Then Rosetta Stoned hit me, and I was awe struck. That's probably my favorite off the album right now. Amazing song... the vocals, riffs, drums, all awesome even if they do sound like Third Eye. The rest of the album isn't quite as good, but Right In Two is still excellent.

Anyways, I'm happy with the album. I think the people that don't like it really need to just sit, listen, and just relax. It was an awesome feeling when I did it. :) It also helped that I didn't download the leak. :p

Moses 05-03-2006 08:47 PM

I think the first five songs are phenominal but it kinda sounds like it loses inspiration after. Rosetta Stoned gets better at the end but that's pretty much it. I think it helped most that I didn't download it.

CaptainWaits 05-03-2006 08:59 PM

So I finally got this new CD. I've just started listening through it now.....still on the first track. I'll give a more detailed opinion once I'm done.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-03-2006 09:41 PM

Did anyone else order a copy from Gray's website? I've yet to do so, but I still plan on it. :-D

gmoneyguy 05-03-2006 09:51 PM

The Pot has turned out to be my favorite song off of 10,00 days.

SonorKen 05-03-2006 10:09 PM

Ok, I have listened to this CD probably 50 times, and it has grown on me. I'm not sure if it has grown on me because it HAD to as I was holding out hoping the leaked release was B-sides.

My problem is I expected too much out of the cd. As a musician I wanted to be blown away like I was when I heard Lateralus and Aenema for the first time. It just didn't happen with this album. It seems like alot of the stuff is rehashed idea's from the past.

Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor really stand out on this CD. Both stepped up and have progressed an incredible amount as musicians. Im not sure what to think about Maynard. His vocals seem to be over processed in the CD which I don't understand. In my opinion, and I say OPINION, Maynard has one of the best male vocals in music today. I don't feel like he put forth the effort he could have, I really believe he could have dug deeper and really pulled out some amazing stuff.

Adam does a good job with the CD, again I expected alot more from him. This could be due to the fact that Carey and Chancellor are so dominate that he had to kinda take the back burner for lack of a better term.

Overall I like the CD, and I am glad I bought it. I feel like this will probably be Tool's last CD and they will all retire from the industry. Little signs make me think this is the plan. This is the first CD where the band members have had pictures of themself inside the CD case and the lenses and 3D artwork, while amazing and interesting, are very clever marketing.

I really wanted to put this cd in, crank it up in my soundproof home studio, lay on the futon and get lost within it, I can't seem to do it with this CD.

I ended up purchasing 4 copies of the CD. I gave 2 to friends who are in college and wanted me to burn them a copy which I wouldn't do, opened 1 and put the unopened one with my other unopened Tool CD's. One HUGE positive coming from this CD is they are touring, you can bet I'll be at several of the shows.

Anyway, this is my opinion of the CD.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-03-2006 10:09 PM

I just ranked the tracks on a myspace comment to Moses, but I suppose I can reiterate for the sake of postcount. (:p)

Right in Two
Rosetta Stoned
Intention
Vicarious
Jambi
The Pot
Wings

Suffice to say I prefer the build up on the album.

Moses 05-03-2006 10:14 PM

The Pot is the coolest song on 10,000 Days. Wings is pretty epic still though. I noticed that alot of the tracks don't get good until the second half of the song and the first half is kind of annoying.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-03-2006 10:45 PM

I was let down too, but I think it's the kind of cd you're gonna have to get used to. I knew Lateralus was going to be a favorite of mine on the first listen(let alone the favorite) but with 10,000 Days, I didn't feel that way. Now I do though. Just let it marinate in your ears for a week or two. :)

PS: Just purchased my signed copy of 10k Days. \:D/

Fanboyness for Tool: Confirmed

Oh, and The Pot effing grooves.

PeEpHoLe_10 05-03-2006 11:37 PM

Im starting to love Rosetta Stoned.

borisdablade 05-04-2006 12:09 AM

As much as I love tool I must say I hate the use of filler in their albums. Sometimes the tracks serve a purpose as segues to those that follow, like eon blue apocalypse, parabola or lost keys. Others like viginti tres, lipan conjuring, mantra, die eier von satan etc. really dont add anything to the overall scheme of things. To be honest I would much rather they cut these tracks and used the space to create another full song or two

...but then again maybe I am just greedy for as much tool as possible, wow that didnt sound anywhere near as gay in my head lol.

repcak 05-04-2006 07:04 AM

together with the interlude of "lost keys (blame hoffman)" makes this song perfect

I think Tool will release at least one more album, they don't quite sound finished to me yet, especially given the supposed comment of this album sounding more like the album they want to create, and them thinking it to be their best album to date. Plus... their contract needs one more CD, I believe.

I'm enjoying 10,000 Days a lot, to say the least. I might even prefer it to Lateralus at the moment, but I don't know how that will go over time. Ænima is my favourite Tool album still.

All the songs on 10,000 Days have grown on me. I've listened to the album... oh, I don't know 25 times through, maybe.

The two worst songs are Jambi and Rosetta Stoned, and that's a shame. I actually prefer Rosetta Stoned as a song to Intension and maybe even Right in Two, but I have this problem of thinking it's using too many rehashed ideas. I hear that guitar line in 6/4 or whatever, and it sounds like H. with two notes added at the end, you know which bit I mean.

It's a good song, It really is, but I can't help but feel the riffs sound a bit too similar to other stuff, which is a shame, cos they added new stuff to it as well.

Jambi... despite making me sing parts of it at random, I feel has lacking bits to it. Despite these criticisms, no songs on here are flops.

All opinions are subject to change.

I think I might get one of those signed copies too. I really, really, like the stuff Alex Grey does. It'd be cool to have.

Daven 05-04-2006 09:17 AM

I'd get the signed CD if my parents would let me order stuff by internet. I'll conform with the regular CD i got in the record store.
