Because it's the best thing that's ever happened to music.
Yep. |
Because it's the best thing that's ever happened to music.
I've always wondered what would compel someone to say that. I mean, if Kurt Cobain dying was the BEST thing to ever happen to music, that really doesn't say all that much about music, does it? |
Yeah, it wouldn't say much about the evolution of music over the last one hundred years if the epitome was some redneck from Seattle blowing his brains out.
|
If hundreds (thousands?) of years in music culminates in the suicide of an unspectacular grunge musician, something has gone awry.
That's all I'm saying. |

I've got vol.2. |
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
This is the thread for general classic rock discussion.
yeah i guess youz r rite. alll deez pozerz at my skool r wearn leik led zeplin shirtz and im liek dude u r just a pozerz. If they were fanz fur realz they wuld listn 2 teh who. |
I would have to disagree on Gregs voice. He still sounds like Greg Allman, but you can tell its wearing out a bit. They did a lot of jams when I went. Not bad, but I would have liked to here some of the classics as well. Oteil was the most suprising part of the concert. I've heard Haynes before with Gov't Mule, and Trucks before with his band, but Oteil was really amazing. While the rest of the band went backstage for a break, he stayed out and played for about 10 minutes by himself. And of course, I miss Dickey Betts. As a guiter player, he was my favorite member of the band. I know Haynes and Trucks are great, but I truly believe nobody can match Betts as far as tone.
Yea, Oteil is really amazing. He reminds me a lot of Entwistle. It was mostly jams, but they played some classics from Live At The Fillmore East. Unfortunately, no Whipping Post or Midnight Rider. |

What songs did they play? Was moe. good? I'm really loving the CDs I bought on Monday. On the live DsotM they jam on "Any Colour You Like" for about 8 min, its soo good. I also really love 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. |

He's almost as cool as me.
Reading his biography destroyed the wholesome image of him I had though, but at the same time as much as some of the things he did were terrible it gives you a new respect for him seeing what he really went through, and though he's human and made alot of mistakes how he handled them. |
Who has checked out MARSHALL TUCKER BAND??!!
|
If hundreds (thousands?) of years in music culminates in the suicide of an unspectacular grunge musician, something has gone awry.
Who has checked out MARSHALL TUCKER BAND??!!
My dad has their s/t. It's okay; good country rock. |
What are some of the terrible things he did?
Well he did lots of things like cheat on his wife, I beleive he hit her once. I'm too lazy to really go double check and list them all now. He didn't start any wars or anything, but he did commit adultery many many times, spawning numerous other children, as a well as hit his wife (I don't want to say beat because I think it was a single incident and yet I don't think it was a single hit either). But he and his wife I would say did a formidable job of overcoming their problems. |
Does anyone like Gong? Heard of them?
|
I also really love 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus.
I told you it was great. |
I told you it was great.
yeah, the vender guy also really loves that album so he gave me a deal on it. I'm listening to it right no. |
My favorite tracks are Prelude, Street Worm, and When I Touch You. But it's a consistently good album.
|
What are some of the terrible things he did?
Rastafarianism...maybe. He supposedly was not 100% Rastafarian and also seemed to practice a more positive and loving form of the religion. So, perhaps that wasn't a bad thing. |
My favorite tracks are Prelude, Street Worm, and When I Touch You. But it's a consistently good album.
i like Prelude, Animal Zoo, Street Worm and Mr. Skin. But yes an awesome album all around. |
I love the cowbell in Street Worm, during the up-tempo part. Actually I love the percussion all throughout the album.
|
I do too, the Cowbell, the congas/bongos, the tympanies and the general drumming.
Nice Traffic thread. :thumb: |
I'm probably going to see Jeff Healey at the Calgary Stampede!
*does dance*
Make a sign that says "MX BLIND MULLET : COOL : " .... not that he'll be able to see it or anything. |

How would you define jazz hair? |
.... not that he'll be able to see it or anything.
Oooh, low shot  np: Jeff Beck - Beck's Bolero. Wicked little instrumental. |
