Summoning's Habbanan Beneath the Stars is really an amazing song.

I love black metal but I hate how it takes so long to get into...

Jaundice 01-27-2010 03:34 PM

it is a slow process

TimJim 01-27-2010 03:36 PM

not.... really?

granted i didnt like the BIG BM artists when i first started listening to BM daily (jamie can verify this :P) but i never didnt like it nor did it take a long time to get into

Morumbar 01-27-2010 03:58 PM

For me, Agalloch made me want to find out more music in their style. Slowly I learned that there isn't really anything just like them, but during my long and slow search I found more and more music that I also liked: black metal.
From my experience, getting into black metal was a slow process. I can now appreciate quality music, even if it is some pretty lo fi stuff, that in the past I would've called impossible to listen to.

My introduction to Black metal was sort of typical: Burzum. It took me a few years to branch out to the stuff that takes getting used to.

TimJim 01-27-2010 04:15 PM

i was introduced to BM with Nyktalgia.

kind of atypical i guess

Moon Flavor 01-27-2010 04:19 PM

My first black metal band was Unexpect and I listened to them for a while until I started liking rawer stuff like Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. Then a couple years later I stated getting into the really obscure dark **** like Krallice and WiTTR

illmitch 01-27-2010 04:21 PM

cradle of filth and dimmu borgir were my introduction to black metal

then i started lookin up black metal on the internets and found out about the norwegian scene and started listening to like Emperor and Darkthrone

it was only downhill from there

TimJim 01-27-2010 04:26 PM

ive never listened to CoF or DB before. didnt seem worth my time somehow

Stevie 01-27-2010 04:34 PM

mayhem, emperor
then darkthrone, immortal, burzum

these 5 bands give a very good basis

Morumbar 01-27-2010 04:38 PM

I used to be completely uninterested by CoF and Dimmu because they attracted an insane amount of wannabe goths and 'alternative' (dressing like every other alternative fag amirite) fags.

I later found out that both bands have a few good songs.

TimJim 01-27-2010 04:40 PM

CoF look like those people you just discribed so idk

Morumbar 01-27-2010 04:49 PM

Well yah, but still, they have a few good songs. And so does Dimmu. The bands are actually pretty good. It's just not the kind of stuff I'm really into.

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 06:02 PM

Stormrider 01-27-2010 06:51 PM
first black metal records i bought were a blaze in the northern sky, storm of the light's bane and dark medieval times.

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:06 PM

Ah, the weekly "what band got me into black metal" convo. Overdone but comforting at the same time.

Stormrider 01-27-2010 07:45 PM

retired speaking of posting repetitiveness haha

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:46 PM

You're just mad that I coined the term "sup bros". Deal with it.

Stormrider 01-27-2010 07:47 PM

im not even referring to sup bros

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:49 PM

I've got so many catch phrases I don't even remember them all.

Stormrider 01-27-2010 07:50 PM

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:51 PM

You've stumped me, sir.
