how do you guys play the creeping death riff, because i'm having a hard time to keep the rythm when i try to downpick it.
Well, I use alt. pick and it seems to sound fine, so you don't have to downpick it.. Also, I believe alt. picking is superior to downpicking.. Like if you learn to alt. pick songs, then when you can do it properly with alt. picking, try it downpick, and more often then not you'll be quite blown away with the outcome. Edit: lol.. Anyone read this BLS_Infernus stuff in the guitar forum? |

MOP was too invented for a orchestra! A four piece orchestra |

I'm messing around with it right now.. I like how it sounds. |

I discovered it by accident  Edit: I have worked out a way to get Master to slip into Bells pretty sneakily... I have a Mac with a built in microphone I might move into my front room and get a recording, but that's effort, and I'm very lazy... |
so who all watched metallica on vh1 last night?
i think they did a brand new song. while inducting sabbath into the rock n roll hall of fame. |
so who all watched metallica on vh1 last night?

Brand new song? I think that first song was sabbath's song also. And Iron Man is sabbath's of course.
|

Whew I thought I might have missed something |
So they played more than iron man? :( I started watching when they were about halfway into Iron Man.
|
So they played more than iron man? :( I started watching when they were about halfway into Iron Man.
Well at least you got to see it I bet it will show up on youtube sometime soon |
So they played more than iron man? :( I started watching when they were about halfway into Iron Man.
"Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward did not perform, but Metallica rattled the walls with versions of "Iron Man" and "Hole in the Sky." -cnn.com Holy in the sky, which I haven't heard before, is what they played before iron man. :smoke: |
I don't think there's a band (except 'tallica) who could do it better than them really.
Heard Dream Theater's cover of orion? I think it's better than the original. |
Dream Theater covered Orion? Nice! :thumb:
|
They covered the whole of Master of Puppets.
|
Dream Theater covered Orion? Nice! :thumb:
They covered the whole MoP album. EDIT: beaten to it |
Holy crapola. Where on earth could one find this elusive material???
|
I think you might be able to get the bootleg off YTSE records, can't remember the exact site. Or you can download it illegally.
|
One will try but probably be unsuccessful, as my computer's on the fritz. Shanks for the info though, I'm going hunting...

Edit: lol.. Anyone read this BLS_Infernus stuff in the guitar forum?
What is it? EDIT: Okay, I saw the thread  I always thought he was a fag anyway. |
I actually have DT's cover of Orion, Leper Messiah, Battery and Damage, Inc. I could email them to any of you if you want.

|

Should be out soon, heres hoping its a reprieve from St Anger.
|
I haven't heard anything about it. Have they started recording it?
|
Yeah take a look at their website they've been in the studio for a while now.
|
I read an interview with Hammet, and he said they are in the proses of writing new music for the forthcoming album. I read it on Blabbermouth.net
|
OMFG this is the first ive heard on this. i cant wait. and here-here, i really hope they redeem themselves after st anger.
can you give me the url for that interview? |
Your didn't know they were recording a new album?
|
Therese Owen of South Africa's Tonight recently interviewed METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On how the band maintains their chemistry and energy: "We definitely have a ritual. We get together beforehand in one room where we just play riffs - ours, someone else's. We just jam for about 20 minutes. Then we go through our own warm-ups, physical exercises, that kind of thing. I do yoga." On why METALLICA have chosen to play in South Africa over a week: "We've always wanted to come here but the timing has never been right. At the moment we are busy writing songs for an album so we had time to come out here. Plus, we get to go on safari because we have free days between the gigs!" On whether Kirk ever throught that 25 years later he would still be playing to sell- out crowds: "I was telling James [Hetfield] today that I think we are in it for the long haul. I can't see us stopping anytime soon. When I started playing guitar I just wanted to play my guitar well. "Growing up I loved JIMI HENDRIX, LED ZEPPELIN, AEROSMITH, KISS. I just wanted to be a great guitar player. When METALLICA started we were the outlaws, the rebels. No one wanted to have anything to do with us. We were too harsh and thought of as the lowliest of the low. All those beginning years we thought we were never getting anywhere or making an impact. Then one day we woke up and it was like, 'Oh my God - we're famous; everyone knows us." On being cited as an inspiration by so many of today's bands: "It tells us we're doing something right. But I know the power of inspiration. It's pretty strong and it's an honour that we have inspired so many people. I was inspired by BLACK SABBATH and the other day we played a tribute to BLACK SABBATH and the whole band were all there watching us. It felt really strange... They of course were very entertained by the idea that we were playing their songs for them." |
Your didn't know they were recording a new album?
no i dont really go on their site much, just repeatedly lissen to their music, and im usually updated about releases by my mates, but im well glad to hear they are coming out with another album. anyone know when it comes out?? |
cheers, prince of darkness.
|
Let's hope this new album is a thrash record. They haven't released a thrash record since 1988.
NP: GWAR - Immortal Corruptor |
No, let's not.
|
You don't like the thrashier 'Tallica?
|
thrash tallica is iconic for them, so yes lets. it would be insanely amazing if they did come out with more thrash. specially after black album/load/reload/anger. but somehow i think it's unlikely.
|
I'd like some good heavy metal with kickass riffs and sweet solos, and that's all that matters really to me.
I want them to make another instrumental though. And maybe another soft ballad like NEM and Low man's lyric. |
yea yea, Kirk needs to step out of his lapse that he experienced in St.Anger. some shredding would be a nice change.
|
You don't like the thrashier 'Tallica?
No, I'm just saying I don't wanna be getting my hopes up for it, because it just ain't gunna happen. I don't really like the thrashier Metallica anyway. I'm a Load-oriented fan myself |
I would be a very happy man if tallica made some more thrash. Ride The Lightning was the album that got me into metal, If it wasn't for thrashy tallica I might not even listen to metal.
