i love Dr Oc, my favorite album is definitely Return of Dr. Octagon.. do you have that? if not i can up it for you, it has such great production- miles ahead of Octagonecologyst, which gives him a lot of creative room and he has really grown creatively so its got better songs that also sound better better aesthetically.
I'd totally forgotten that existed. I think Crumb sent me one song ("Ants"?) when it was new, and I liked it, which was surprising in itself since I'm not that great a fan of the first album. Thanks for the reminder. |
Black Sabbath is my favourite band of late, after their self-titled album and Paranoid becoming a strong part of my musical tastes Master of Reality is one of my favourite albums of all time now after a month or two of listening to it. Listening to Vol. 4, i hated it at first but some of the songs on their are gelling nicely now.
As for modern bands i am digging, Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde by Alcest is an album i really like at the moment. I am listening to a lot of Ween as well. |
The Fall - This Nation's Saving Grace
I've heard 5 Fall albums before this, and it seemed I had a habit of listening to the not-so-good ones. This is a really interesting album, and much better than the ones I've heard prior to this. |
Theres a torrent floating around of The Fall's peel sessions throughout Peel's life. 6 discs of their best songs and cleanest recording quality. Download it.

Only a Mother - Feral Chickens
I'm in the mood for residents-influenced music from the 90's. So only a mother, giant ant farm, heavy vegetable, idiot flesh, and primus will be in order. It's also kind of putting me in the mood for circus music. |
Black Flag - My War
Best post-Damaged album. |

Rex 7 Things I learned this week:

I can play most of the songs off of Electric Warrior.
The Futureheads self-titled was much better than News and Tributes. But "Skip to the End" is still a pretty fun song.
Every American pop artist during the early 60s probably wanted to sound the same, but I'm ok with that.
All I really wanna do is play Annette Poindexter & Pieces of Peace's "Wayward Dream" over and over again.
The Mekons were rad and the folks who knocked them in that one thread can go to hell.
"Leyendecker" sounds kinda funny if you slow it down. But not in a funny way.
Stuff about other things
|
I found this Brazilian funk compilation if you are interested, Crumb.

Miles Davis - Jack Johnson, In a Silent Way
MF Grimm - Scars & Memories Madvillain - Madvillain |
"We're Here" is definitely the best song on Meat Puppets II. I'm glad Kurt Cobain didn't cover it for Unplugged cause he probably would have ruined it.

Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
Drive Like Jehu - Drive Like Jehu |
