GurS 12-02-2004 02:31 PM

everyone go over to the "best 12-string song" thread and say Prodigal Son

ashman 12-02-2004 02:31 PM
the three most knowladable people in this thread, who know more about maiden than everyone else, and they moderate maiden discussions and stuff.
Why did my head suddenly get bigger?

The new member thing is gonna be a bugger to choose...I suggest a vote from all the members that post in this thread. Anyone agree?

GurS 12-02-2004 02:32 PM

I actualy think we're ok with three for now. If we get a sudden influx of new members, then we should get a fourth, but right now, the three of us are just about competent :p

i get the Runto the Hills biografy soon, so if its somthing we dont know, i can find it in 2 - 3 minutes  :thumb:

Arucard 12-02-2004 02:35 PM

yup.
im just wondering GurS, i know you love Nicko with all of your drumming heart, but what do you think is his best song? (drum wise) i may have to be conservative and say 'where eagles dare' but the drumming on 'hallowed be thy name' and 'the prisoner' (when he does it, not clive) both seem to be good.

ashman 12-02-2004 02:38 PM

*Puts on Gur Mask* I think the best Nicko song is..........

*Drum Roll*

........Out of the Silent Planet.

I think the Run to the Hills Biography should be required reading for the Maiden Crew :thumb:

GurS 12-02-2004 02:38 PM

After much deliberation, I'm gonna say Out Of The Silent Planet. Fills wise, it's not very good, as there are basically no fills, but as for a beat... the bass-drum triplets you hear from the second chorus onwards incredible. He's doing that with ONE FOOT. It's near impossible, Nicko's probably got the fastest foot in the world, and that's probably the best example of that fact. Other good examples of feet work are The Wicker Man, The Evil That Men Do, No More Lies and The Mercenary.

Though the intro fills on Where Eagles Dare are pretty **** good.

haha
yeh out of the silent planet is good, but i can do the triplets for a time at least (but i have a DW 5000 series pedal, and have been playing three years so u know...) Clive era wise, 'iron maiden' kicks total drumming *** on the record and so does 'muerders in the rue morgue' and 'genghis kahn'

GurS 12-02-2004 02:42 PM

ghengis kahn i find simple. it's fast, but simple. can you do those triplets with one foot, though?

ashman 12-02-2004 02:42 PM

I think the Trooper is a pretty good song Drum wise...So many fills. Nicko surely sold his sould to the Devil for such mastery on the tubs.

GurS 12-02-2004 02:43 PM

Oh, and a futher reason why Nicko is amazing - he's entirely 100% self-taught

Thunder Fingers 12-02-2004 02:43 PM

yes, i dont play double pedals, i find them boring and kind of cheating
i can probably do it because i used to play alot of punk, and it builds pedal power amazingly

ashman 12-02-2004 02:44 PM

Arucard 12-02-2004 02:46 PM

GurS 12-02-2004 02:47 PM

GurS 12-02-2004 02:49 PM

I actually reckon the best drummer ever was Gene Krupa.

Arucard 12-02-2004 02:50 PM
Nope...
have u got msn? cause if you have, add me on freakinacage31@hotmail.com and ill send you some, he is amazing. I swear on my life, he is so riduculosuly good. they are basically maiden, but power metal (ie fast, lots of palm muting)

Arucard 12-02-2004 02:54 PM

or just go to www.dragonforce.com and listen to my spirit will go on

GurS 12-02-2004 03:09 PM

Arucard 12-02-2004 03:11 PM

So who's gonna do the "Authority" suggestion to the mods?
im not bothered about being in the authority. its like shadow_stalker says, i really dont have a huge knowledge of maiden, just knowledge of some things about them. nice to be recognised though :thumb:

GurS 12-02-2004 03:19 PM

I'm a great fan of the three big folk stars - Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon (and Art Garfunkel).

I'm also a huge Meat Loaf fan.

Josh 12-02-2004 03:22 PM

i like metallica / chili peppers / pink floyd / green day / black sabbath / ozzy osbourne / ac/dc / oasis / foo fighters / velvet revolver and various others.

Arucard 12-02-2004 03:22 PM

cool
im a big power metal fan, Bodom and Dragonforce being my fave bands in that genre
but i also love the uk ska scene at the mo, the filaments, bosseye, capdown and no comply all being great
(but maiden being better)

Josh 12-02-2004 03:23 PM

maiden are definitely the best band in the world...also i just saw the video for wildest dreams on scuzz...1st time ive seen it

Josh 12-02-2004 03:25 PM

theres also a power metal band call HammerFall i like, i havnt heard much of their stuff but i may buy an album after christmas...dont jnow much about them except theyre possibly playing download next year

GurS 12-02-2004 03:25 PM

Yeh? Tis a good vid.

Be Quick Or Be Dead is SUCH a typical early-90's video.

Arucard 12-02-2004 03:25 PM

is it good?

GurS 12-02-2004 03:29 PM

Tis OK I guess

Arucard 12-02-2004 03:30 PM

meh
GurS have ou heard of constant release? its a bass drum pedal technique, and thats how Nicko gets his singles so fast on those triplets.

GurS 12-02-2004 03:31 PM

I can't say that I have - I'm also self-taught.

Arucard 12-02-2004 03:34 PM

ahh ok. well its all about using the bounce of the beater of the bass drum, and using it to strike again and again with alot more ease than doing all of them straight
think of it, as ashman said, as a pendulam.
its like a drum roll, but on a bass drum.
