I feel like Lupe is doing a lot of experimentation in the genre. He aint hit the right key yet, but he gets a few really sick tracks out of whatever he puts out. I'm definitely willing to stick around and see when he hits that mark.

llama1600 12-18-2007 11:04 AM

Well here's hoping the third time's a charm, because from what I hear his next album is his last.

On another note, has anyone heard the Grinehouse Opera remix of Jay-Z's American Gangster album?

^ This page talks about it a bit

CarnageFairy 12-19-2007 08:06 PM

Haven't heard the new Jay-Z yet, but I'm rabid for Black Album remixes so I'll check er out.

Just got Buck 65's newest.

New Lupe is mildly dope. He has some sweet ideas floating around but I dunno sometimes it just doesn't seem to connect. May be a grower.

Dried Muffin Remnants 12-21-2007 01:47 AM

MF Doom, Nas and Kool Keith are my top three of seeing next year.

sgrevs 12-22-2007 07:07 PM

I'm seeing Dr. Octagon and Aceyalone at Big Day Out, and Busdriver and Blackalicious at Falls Festival, gonna be sweet.

40 oz 2 freedom 12-22-2007 07:11 PM

awesome^

Time 12-22-2007 07:53 PM

Of the extremely small amount of hip-hop I've heard this year, I like Pharoahe Monch's Desire the most (I don't even own it though). I still want to hear the new stuff from Wu-Tang, Ghostface, UGK and Little Brother

40 oz 2 freedom 12-22-2007 07:56 PM

I'd probably go with UGK. New Scarface was good, and Wu was pretty good. Still haven't heard new Ghost

Eliminator 12-22-2007 08:09 PM

I like Dalek's album the most because I am a fag.

Still need to get the new UGK.

Time 12-22-2007 08:13 PM

This year was the year that I started seriously getting into rap and hip hop after not really liking it for a while, so I wasn't listening to much new stuff. I'm mostly into the Wu-tang Clan and all their solo efforts, and I'm into Common, the Roots, MF Doom, Nas, and Talib Kweli. So if anyone wants to recommend me anything I'd like some more hip hop. I've actually just been inspired to download Desire.

Gonads 12-22-2007 08:30 PM

I don't feel it's necessary to make a thread for this so I'll just ask it in here, I need some names of good hiphop artists and groups, specifically ones with good basslines. Thanks.

This is pretty good.

Time 12-22-2007 09:35 PM

Oh yeah I remembered something else I wanted to ask. I really like Common, he has good flow and lyrics and his stuff is just really uplifting. Could someone recommend me some other artists that have that uplifting, old school type feel?

Time 12-22-2007 09:44 PM

Weird, I've never heard of EPMD. I looked them up and they seemed like something I'd like, thanks. Anyone else got suggestions?

pulseczar 12-22-2007 09:47 PM

Little Brother remind me of Common. Some people might also say Talib Kweli, but in my opinion he's only good in small doses and none of his albums can be sat through entirely. People Under the Stairs have a feel good old school vibe, too. And check out Exit by k-os. Í don't like Common much, though, but I think all the one I've mentioned have something similar to him, except it's stuff I like.

edit: and yeah epmd are great

Time 12-22-2007 10:01 PM

Thanks man. I think I'm gonna buy GetBack when I go out to buy a **** load of albums with my Christmas money.

Eliminator 12-22-2007 10:25 PM

You gots to chill.

ATM 12-23-2007 12:01 AM

Time, check out some De La Soul, the Pharcyde, Black Sheep, Jeru the Damaja, Binary Star, Cyne, and Count Bass D.

Wyko 12-23-2007 02:02 AM

Meh, that's a hard one, there hasn't been a hip-hop release that I really loved this year. My favorites have to be

Talib Kweli - Eardrum
Jay-Z - American Gangster
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Cunninlynguists - Dirty Acres
UGK - Underground Kingz

And for the Dutch people in this thread (if there are any): Sticks & Delic - Fakkelteit

I still have to check out the Pharaohe Monch release.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-23-2007 04:47 AM

The only Rap I've checked out this year is 8 Diagrams. I might check out Pharoahe Monch if I can be bothered.

ATM 12-23-2007 09:26 AM

Do it, Jono.

I liked:

Brother Ali - The Undisputed Truth
Panacea - The Scenic Route
Blue Scholars - Bayani
Jay Dee - Jay Loves Japan
Moka Only - Vermilion
Ghostface Killah - The Big Doe Rehab
Cunninlynguists - Dirty Acres
Little Brother - GetBack
Sean Price - Jesus Price Supastar
Devin the Dude - Waiting to Inhale
Eightball and MJG - Ridin' High (UGK fans should check this out)
Oh No - Dr. No's Oxperiment
Percee P - Perseverance

I still need to hear the new Lifesavas.

Eliminator 12-23-2007 10:18 AM

I used to be into Jeru a lot but he gets very boring bth

Just remembered, I did listen to the new Dizzee Rascal. It's pretty good.

Interstate 12-23-2007 12:40 PM

Just managed to get the full tracklist of Canibus - Rip The Jacker. I've been trying to get hold of it for ages, can't seem to buy a copy anywhere so I downloaded it. Played it twice now and it's sweet as.

Interstate 12-24-2007 04:01 PM

Just downloaded Pitbull - El Mariel. Gonna listen to it in a bit, I've heard good things about him so I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Lately I've been loving a few certain artists....I've bought some albums from these guys:

Erykah Badu
Fugees
Wyclef
Lauryn Hill
Beastie Boys

I especially enjoy Badu and Lauryn Hill's album.

Those are all decent :). You'd probably like Dave's Chappelle's Block Party movie, features performances from Erykah Badu, Fugees, Common, Black Star, The Roots, Dead Prez and alot more.

Anyone seen it? I liked it although I would prefer that they showed abit more of the performances.

It's on of my favorites. Dave's hilarious as always and the performances are great.

Yeah it's funny at times :). Only thing that really annoys me is Talib's voice, which is awful.
