I'm ok with it...

Minus The Flair 10-12-2006 01:22 PM

Ok, I'll do those crits tonight. I just got back from my first interview ever, completely ballsed it up though. =( I was way too nervous, took 10 minutes to answer their questions. The jobs perfect for me though, perfect hours, great pay, relaxed, peaceful atmosphere, and would really be helpful with my English A Levels. It's Waterstones (a book store) by the way. But at least I've got a brand shiny new ipod now.

Surf 10-12-2006 02:17 PM

waterstones is a good store. they give a 10% student discount which is great. interviews are rubbish, i hate them. always the same kind of stuff, especially when its a big franchise like waterstones is. thanks for the crit, i'm getting to editing it soon, but i've got to much reading to catch up on at the moment.

edit: i have now critised everything on the front page. now i'm bored.

drumass04 10-12-2006 02:45 PM

I'm past the stage of boredom which involves crit'ing things, I passed it a long while ago!

Been out at a College open evening, wasn't that great really. I think I'm probably going to stay on at my school for 6th Form. It's a Grammar School, it's got good teachers, an area I know, and people I like.

I've narrowed some of my options down for A-level;

Definately doing 'English Lit.'
Probably doing 'Physics'
Can't decide between 'Biology' and 'Chemistry'
Can't decide between 'Philosophy and Ethics' and 'Design Technology'

I'm looking at going on to University after A-levels. At the moment I'm interested in English & Theatre studies Joint Honours (not acting/performance, more directing/writing/lighting/sound/design etc).

But I don't know! I hate thinking about the future! Makes life seem so short :(

Opinions?

Timmy

Surf 10-12-2006 02:50 PM

what about doing drama? pretty important for theatre studies, and ties closely with english; same kind of skills, with a lot of viable crossover skills.

and ew, science. i hate anything to do with math. that's why I'm so poor :(

theatre studies at uni will definitely cater for pretty much any aspect of theatre you care for. i know guys here who are in it purely for the directing, and by their own admission can't act.

and philosophy sound a lot more interesting than design tech; i did d&t for gcse, and it bored the crap out of me.

Haha! I'm the same way... ugh!

*whispers* I have 2 new ideas for stuff..I can't wait to post them :naughty:

Minus The Flair 10-12-2006 02:59 PM

Wow Timmy, you're only 15! Make me feel crap about my writing. I'm doing Eng and Physics, btw don't at all think that that means you should be doing Maths. Maths is killing me at A level. I also had a tough choice between doing Biology or Chem, but i chose Biology, I just find it easier and more enjoyable. Plus my chem teacher sucked. It depends on what you want to do, they're both very respectable A levels. And I personally would go for 'P+E', I would of done it but my timetable clashed. I would of loved to do it, plus it's a really easy A level to get amazing grades I hear. But those two are so different, that really depends on which one you enjoy more, as they seem to be your kind of enjoyment subjects.

Surf 10-12-2006 03:02 PM

meh. just go the easy route and do media studies. easiest course ever, espcially if you've actually watched a film in the last ten years.

drumass04 10-12-2006 03:04 PM

I'm fine with maths, pretty good at it.

I'm mainly looking for a route into theatre...but i don't want to act, i used to but i turned to the dark side a couple of years ago and now i love it!

The drama/theatre courses at the college were all acting based, which i really don't want to do. And as it isn't necessary to have an official qualification for it, i may as well do something different which i know i will enjoy (such as D&T/P&E). I really like D&T, i'm doing electronics GCSE and absolutely love it, also the teachers at my school are absolutely amazing...some of them seem more like friends than teachers!

Surf 10-12-2006 03:11 PM

we got to make a clock at gcse. mine sucked, i cut myself so many times on the damn electric saw thing.

you're probably better off with stuff you like (even though its obviously rubbish - physics)

anyway, i'm off to pub, i'll see you folks later

/edit: back from pub

DeadReligion 10-12-2006 08:27 PM

I can't do math. I just can't do it. Which is why I picked up a fucking pen. Lol. Take Philiosphy and Ethics.

FA 10-13-2006 12:24 AM

Someone gimme 10 cool words and itll help me open my mind more. I want to take this piece further and I'm too tired and stupid to be creative...quickly 5-10 beatiful words...nothing harsh...

Subtle, who's in your av?

Ive got a new song, I dont think Im behind on crits, so I'll put it up soon. I've gotta start getting to Surf and Tojes and the likes before everyone else, because I really hate critting songs that have already got crits, because I feel as if everything to says already been said, especially if Surf's payed a visit.

Surf 10-13-2006 06:47 AM

i think its converge. "they are the best"
especially if Surf's payed a visit
people have stuff on the front page and they don't know my opinion. this must be rectified.

Oh man that reminds me of that old stanza game.
Start with 4 words and write a 4 line stanza using them...

We should bring that back...that wasn't a bad idea

Minus The Flair 10-13-2006 11:49 AM

Shut up everyone, I have important news. I got the job at Waterstones! Let's talk about being awesome. Or in awesome moods. And writing about them. Actually no, not writing. But yeh, in an amazing mood, especially after I thought I did a ****ty interview.

Surf 10-13-2006 11:54 AM

nah, barwork is where its at. but you're probably not old enough to experience the joy that is putting a shamrock on the head of a guiness. still better than my first job washing up in a pub kitchen.

how much employee discount do you get at waterstones?

i need a load of books and they don't come cheap. i have a student discount, but dammit, they still cost loads :(

Minus The Flair 10-13-2006 11:59 AM

I'll find out, I start next weekend. But yeh, that was my first ever interview and this is my first ever job, and I'd rather do this then washing up in a pub kitchen.
