Any Colour You Like - Another Floyd instrumental. Written by the whole band. David Gilmours guitar effects in this song go beyond anything. This song can be simply desribed and a batch of colors shining magnificently. Most definately a wonderful song.
I love the song :thumb: I get it stuck in my head all the time :D |
Any Colour You Like is ultimate. The title completely describes the song.
|
excuse me if im asking a redundant question, but does anyone have any ideas on how in the world gilmour gets those sounds on any colour you like
Do you want to trade anything Gilmour.
I've really been getting deep into Floyd in the last few months - I've always loved The Wall & DSOTM - just never ventured past them. (Thrash got me at a young age)
I picked up Meddle on a whim, HOLY ****!! what a genius album! Echoes alone is worth the album, Pillow of Winds, Fearless, One of these Days, all genius songs. San Tropez & Semus have the "classic Queen wtf songs" effect on me, I just have to skip them(ala Big Bad Leroy Brown) Since then I picked up Animals, and Wish You Were Here - and am blown away by this stuff. The Animals disc I got had a "bonus album" on it, A Saucerful of Secrets - I wasn't overly impressed - it was lacking most of the stuff I love about Floyd. (stony, ride cymbal mellowness, great vocal melodies & harmonies, soaring guitar solos, ect) There is an amazing jump in songwriting from ASOS to Meddle. So, other than DSOTM, Meddle, WYWH, Animals, & The Wall - are there any other great classic Floyd albums?(as if thats not enough lol) I've seen mixed reviews for early Floyd, and the soundtrack albums. It's confusing, when even the band says some of their old stuff sucks! And for vocals, I have a hard time figuring out who sings what - Is Gilmour the "lead" singer for the most part? I know Waters sings Brain Damage/Eclipse, and a bunch of the Wall stuff - but on the bulk of the classic singing, is taht Gilmour? Who does the harmonies? Like on Echoes, or on Time - Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain" those lines - who sings that? Sorry for some noobish questions, but I can't find this **** in interviews, ect. |
I've always been meaning to buy Animals, but I always have second thoughts when the stores charge it for twenty bucks and only five songs.
|
5 songs, 3 of which are around 10-17 minutes.
|
Beginning of Any Colour You Like has some of the coolest keyboard work by Wright. I heart that song. :D
Probably one of my favorite Floyd songs period, being a keyboardist myself. |
5 songs, 3 of which are around 10-17 minutes.
After hearing Dogs, which is about 17 minutes, that alone will justify your purchase. Pigs is also a very good song too. EDIT: Not directed towards HeavyRiva |
I'm listening to Echoes Pt. 1 off Pompeii. This has such a sweet solo, and it rules to play.
I reckon the only other indispensable Pink Floyd album for a Floyd fan is The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, which was their debut album, and is very psychedelic...it's the only album where Dave Gilmour doesn't play, but where Syd Barrett is the lead guitarist. Other than that, the band has a few good albums, but not any others that I'd consider great, although I know people will disagree with me here. I fully agree about the band's songwriting skills progressing though. Other than The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, I never really listen to any of their stuff recorded before Meddle on a regular basis.
On Time, I think I'm right in saying that Gilmour does the bulk of the singing, although Richard Wright also sings on the track. The majority of The Dark Side Of The Moon is sung by Gilmour, with the exceptions being Brain Damage/Eclipse. Gilmour also sings onEchoes as well. Basically after The Dark Side Of The Moon Waters took over the main singing duties, until he left the band. Before then Gilmour did most of the singing.
Obscured By Clouds is a great album, one of my favorite Floyd albums. But I love anything by floyd. |
Gilmour also sings onEchoes as well.
Also note that Richard Wright sings with Dave on that song. |
I bought piper at the gates of dawn the other day..like a month ago actually and i am kinda glad syd went crazy, because i dont think pink floyd would have ever come out wiht a "DSOTM" or a wish you were here (duh). But i like piper its just a little too psychodelic for my likings,
|
Crap! Well the track by track pompeii is gonna take a bit longer, for some reason a bunch of the songs went in to a few minutes of silence after each track...

I like Piper, anyways, I think it is going to be inevitable for Waters to finally start taking more control, even if it would be a bit later. Pink Floyd with Syd I don't think would be the same though. Maybe David Gilmour might have joined with them? Or the band saw Waters trying to take more control kicked him out, and Syd would bring his friend Gilmour and Syd would take Waters position while retaining the songwriting and Gilmour would do lead guitar. I think a good idea would be all of them though, with Syd on rythem and Gilmour on lead. With all that aside, I think what Pink Floyd became was great. Roger Waters and David Gilmour together is what most people think about with Pink Floyds music. People look at the albums like Darkside, Animals and The Wall. As much as I like Syd I think PINK FLOYD as we know them today was better with Waters and Gilmour. Anyways, whoever was talking about Animals should definately get it. All the songs are great and the album flows so nice. |
Animals is great, but from all of the Floyd albums that I have (PATGOD, Meddle, DSOTM, WYWH, Animals and Delicate Sound of Thunder), it's the least I listen too.
|
Animal zwns you. Listen to it more.
|
Sorry, I just really can't find what I like about Pink Floyd being so much in there. I love Dogs and Sheep but I think it's a bit too acoustic for my liking.

Finally!
http://s33.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=08MFZ7FNT6TLX0SR28K3OO62I8 Live at Pompeii, with all the track seperated. The only thing wrong is Echoes(part2), the mp3 that modest bob uploaded cuts off too early, so it doesnt have everything. BTW, if there is anything wrong with any of the songs, tell me and Ill try to fix the songs |

I started YSI'ing it this morning, and then I had to go to my dad's house before it finished, so I didn't have a way of getting the songs over here. But I'll just use your's. |
speaking of avatars... really dig yours :)
Thanks. So, would you mind telling me what's up with your avatar? |
Hey, I've recently got into pink floyd alot i have wish you were here the wall animals and dsotm
I think animals is the best album but i never saw the big deal for dsotm what so great about it? |
^ Well, what's so great about Animals?
|
Well the first solo is probably one of the greatest solo's i have ever heard and the lyrics are great im not insulting DSOTM maybe i just havnt given it enough time i like the great gig in the sky and all but i dont see the brilliance others seem to
|
Don't worry, I'm not atacking you. I just want to see why you like Animals so much. You see, I don't see the great deal on Animals, and I preffer DSOTM (but my favorite album is WYWH).
Just trying to see your point of view. |
I havnt listend to WYWH as much as the others kind of neglected it ill slip it onl ater
|
that sentence just kept making littler sense after every word...
Im debating is wywh or dsotm is my favorite album...theirs both so great all around, but the lyrics to wywh blow me away. Ive totally blew off obscurred by clouds, since i bought patgod only a week later. Im gonna have to listen to it more, it really was a great album. |
I don't have Obscured by Clouds... I don't know anything about that album, actually, other than it was the one before DSOTM.
I read somewhere than in 2000, DSOTM was voted as the best album to have sex to. I like Australia. Wish I could go there. |
OBC is very cool. I really like the guitar work on that album. The long, sustaining "solos" like on Obscured By Clouds and Mudmen.
