Adam Jones is GOD 03-06-2005 07:05 AM
Hey guys i have eben working on the new first post for the past hour...this is all i have :upset: I can't find AJIG's FA anywhere. Or the link for Lateralus' ties with the Quabla (sp?). Search functions being a be0tch too. If you have anything you want to add just post or something...I dnno who is gonna have first post, I would think it would be wise to let SFK take it so if anyone wan't to leave the thread still has control.

Opinions?
Shorten it. It needs to be something that even the lamest new internet user will go for.

Listing like

Main Site - Link

FAQ Site - link

Featured Artist - Link

A variety of song interpretations and lyrical analysis

- labelled links.

This way, if someone reads it, they wil be less likely to skim it. And of courese, some big size 7 announcement on the status of the new album. Now we need SFK to give authorisation for it.

DARKanima 03-06-2005 07:16 AM

I heard somewhere that Maynard featured in a concert with the remaining members of Alice in Chains, has anyone else heard this or know about it?

There's a link to some mention of it. And yes, we know about it

Otherside 03-06-2005 10:12 AM

Does anyone still have that link that was posted here a long time ago, with Danny playing the last part of lateralus in studio?

Darkness 03-06-2005 01:26 PM

The ending was my favorite part. That was sweet..

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-06-2005 01:43 PM

The man's just plain filthy.

Maynard's Dick 03-06-2005 02:06 PM

TheSubtleArts 03-06-2005 04:24 PM

Adam Jones is GOD 03-06-2005 04:25 PM

More on his website. including the ridiculously audio and visually astounding 46&2 section

Darkness 03-06-2005 06:05 PM

Which website? dannycarey.org?

Adam Jones is GOD 03-06-2005 06:11 PM

Yup. I think its education, lessons/cyberclinics then they are there somewhere. Not 56ker friendly though, and you need quicktime plugin

Not sure on their exact location, search around. Lots of cool stuff there though

Darkness 03-06-2005 06:45 PM

oh yeah cool thanks man.

TheSubtleArts 03-06-2005 08:07 PM

Flinflon 03-06-2005 11:26 PM

I'm going to try and disect the song Stinkfist. Hopefully in my perusal of previous posts I'm correct in that I haven't seen a full attempt at explaining this.

Stinkfist is not just about inserting increasingly large digits into the rectal cavity. It is actually about de-sensitization throught the media.

Constant over stimulation numbs me
But I would not want you any other way.
Just not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.

These lines from the song seem to me to be talking about television. Television is a constant bombardment on the sense, yet we are still bored by it. No matter what we see or what we watch it's not intense enough. Reality TV would be a prime example of that theory in motion. It's not enough to see actors go through hell so real people have to do it for our amusement.

Blend and balance pain and comfort deep within you
till you will not want me any other way.
But it's not enough.

IMO these lines are saying that if you watch these things in the comfort of your own room long enough (i.e. violence, s*x, bad language) you don't connect the true negative effects of these things. You "balance pain and comfort" to become desensitized to what you see.

Something kinda sad about,
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?

These lines are the key clinchers to my theory, and yet they get overlooked all the time by people who just say "Hehehe, he's talking about anal fisting, heheheh" If that's all there is to it, what do these lines say. These lines are pretty the centre from which I've developped my theory.

I hope that this is the kind of post that you have been looking for from another Tool fan who actually thinks when he listens.

Kage 03-07-2005 12:01 AM

That's not a bad theory. I haven't delved too much into Tool's meanings, but instead have let them shed their own light on the things that go on in the world, etc.

Stinkfist was one of the few songs that i was able to immediately get a personal interpretation of. Not as specific as you, but just of desensitization in general, of the media, and our personal lives, there even seems to be drug references here, but in general desensitizing of ourselves.

Riva 03-07-2005 12:45 AM

Yes, I used Stinkfist as an example in an analytical piece I did in English. Rather than relate it to it's obvious meaning, I related it to densensitisation and disgust in general.

Danny Carey is GOD 03-07-2005 12:33 PM

Got to love the 46+2 drum solo on dannycarey.org , and the others to be honest. Shame there Isn't more around. The only decent quality vid I have found of his drumming is the drummerworld.com one.

That is an awesome video (from drummerworld.com), but I was kind of disappointed that they picked the simplest section of that to make it out of. The hidden gong mallet thing was a nice touch though.

got tool? 03-07-2005 03:01 PM

i love tool man... i've only been listening to them for a year but i am so obsessed...Anyway, i've got some questions:

1) in "the grudge", there's a line that goes "Let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold". Transmutate isn't a word, is it? Shouldn't it be transmute?
2) Why is there like 2 min. of nothing at the end of Triad?
3) What's the point of Disgustipated?
4) WHEN THE HELL IS TOOL COMING OUT W/ ANOTHER CD??!!!

i hope somone can answer these before i lose my mind...

btw, whoever "Danny_carey_is_god" is, where'd you get that cool avatar?

clearvision 03-07-2005 03:10 PM

1) Transmutate is basically the same as mutate, in the context of the line it means make lead into gold.
2) Because the band wanted it that way
3) The band is the only people that know, and maybe the webmaster at toolband.
4) We do not know at the present time, we have strong rumours that it's june/july...but it's all guesswork really.

There is a link a few pages back for avatars. Please don't steal his though.

crimson kitty 03-07-2005 04:50 PM

i am new to this website so sorry if this question was answered and discussed a million times, but what's up with this new tool album? and please tell me they are going to go on tour. and what about APC, are they still going to make albums?

misunderstood 03-07-2005 04:57 PM

Welcome to the boards...Well, the new Tool album...who knows..i keep hearing many different things about it: june/july, Late fall, Early 2006...I really don't know...APC as of right now is on a hiatus. Every member in that band has different projects going on so there is no album expected anytime soon. However, i had read somewhere that there would infact be another album sometime in the far future

crimson kitty 03-07-2005 05:11 PM

so you dont know anything about a tool tour?

misunderstood 03-07-2005 05:16 PM

Nope..no Tool tour as of now

Arrakakaka 03-07-2005 05:28 PM

dUSK 03-07-2005 07:33 PM

Hey guys

I haven't been around for a while, did anything worth reading happen in my absence or are we all just still waiting for a release date? I need to catch myself back up on the Tool news.

Darkness 03-07-2005 07:38 PM

dUSK 03-07-2005 07:41 PM

Me.

Werny 03-08-2005 12:53 AM

I checked out some Meshuggah...

Oh dear GOD!!! Probably the most repetitive metal band ever... they're awesome, but every song sounds exactly the same! Please Tool, DON'T DO THIS!!!

Other then my excitement of the new album lowering, I got a new copy of Salival with all of the tracks in full working order. Haven't listened yet though (too much new cds!).

BlindWriting 03-08-2005 07:45 PM

Where'd you find it? eBay?
