BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:38 PM

Aww, cmon guys. Don't close the tom petty thread. Just change the title so that it's a general discussion.

3074326 01-17-2005 10:40 PM

Haha, just make a Tom Petty thread.

I'd have to basically edit everything about that thread.

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:46 PM

Yeah, well, umm yeah. fine.

nice try on your good samaritan role but the thing is that this is an english forum and its very annoying having people who wont speak the proper language

Why cant he just put what he types into a translator before he posts rather than 100 posters having to translate for he says. Its basic courtesy

Riva 01-18-2005 02:15 AM

Look, one of the mods, Jelle, speaks at least 5 languages, with Flemish being his first language. He speaks English for the sake of the rest of us who do not speak his language. It's obvious you can speak English, so if you want the 90% of the forums who do not speak a language similar to Spanish to understand your opinions etc, then post in English.

And, don't threaten people because they can't understand what you are saying. That is the calling card of a pretentious idiot.

EDIT: SI, I was talking to the spanish guy. No offense intended to you.

Sonic_Immersion 01-18-2005 02:17 AM

who threatened who now?

EDIT: yeah thats ok

im like...ahhh guy with 4 stars telling me off lol

Alright guys, which Official threads do you think are necessary?

Time for some major work to be done. I've been reading a lot of complaints about some of the threads, and the thread in the Site forum will hopefully be the last. :)

munky_magik 01-18-2005 12:06 PM

I don't think we really need anymore. When new albums are released this year there'll be a lot of threads which you can close, but other than that the bands don't get enough threads about them to merit an official thread IMO.

3074326 01-18-2005 12:14 PM

I honestly wouldn't be opposed to getting rid of all Official threads for a week or so, just to see how things go.

I don't post in the Official Tool thread at all, but do enjoy reading Tool threads. Haven't read one of those for months.

I think we should just let the forum be a forum and let threads be made. If Metallica threads get out of hand, we'll let the Metallica thread be Official.

If a thread isn't doing its job, I don't think it should be a thread to which one is directed.

These are just my opinions, it doesn't mean that anything I just said will happen.

Im against any thread being labelled official, so clear them all out/rename the lot. Some threads though should remain open and bumpable, as they have some great discussion in them and a sense of community. Some will need to either be stickied during new album releases, or at least temporarily made official, but I do agree they need to go, and renamed without the 'Official' tag.

(just dont close the tool one, or on your life be it!)

3074326 01-18-2005 12:56 PM

We'll just wait for the other guys to say what they think, then we'll make some decisions.

Keep the suggestions coming though. :)

munky_magik 01-18-2005 01:47 PM

The official threads are like little communities of their own, so closing/abandoning them would probably upset a fair few people. It does divide the forum up however so I guess whaever action is taken will have its pro's and con's.

Kingofdudes 01-18-2005 04:18 PM

The only really needed one would be Metallica, maybe slipknot. But I think all the rest can go(But, could we still keep them in the rules thread for easy access?)

We wouldn't be getting rid of the threads, just not closing threads related to the bands.

Riva 01-19-2005 12:58 AM

So, people who make a Jet thread when one already exists get theirs closed, but people who make a Pink Floyd thread, (once the official one becomes de-officialised) don't get theirs closed simply because the Floyd one used to be official?

That is the summation of everyone's logic so far. I don't mean to be rude, but any new threads made about "official thread" bands will still be flamed for not searching, and will still be nominated for closing. Changing the title does nothing. I don't mind them being unofficial or official, but it will have a miniscule impact on the forum (a few less noobs will ask if HiM can get an official thread, etc).

Bartender 01-19-2005 12:59 AM

The Metallica thread really was actually needed (you know, back in the day), but after a few months it basically became a spam thread. Many of the official threads there are now, I don't even know where they came from. Like Black Sabbath, and Megadeth, and others; maybe I fell asleep for a few weeks or something, but when did we have problems with an influx of threads about them?

Riva 01-19-2005 01:02 AM

A lot of the threads: Megadeth, Black Sabbath and Opeth were made official simply because they weren't going anywhere.

does anyone know how to check rep points? i have no idea wat they are or anything
help please

munky_magik 01-19-2005 10:06 AM

to check your rep points go to your User Cp via the link at the top left of the screen and scroll to the bottom of the page.
rep points are reputation points. You get given positive rep for useful posts and negitive rep for idiotic posts. you give rep by clicking the little tick/cross box under someone's avatar.

Bartender 01-19-2005 10:08 AM

Ostensibly, they're supposed to single out good users. You can give out rep points (reputation points), positive or negative, to anyone by clicking the little box with the tick and X in it under their avatar.

You have the option of giving positive or negative rep, and of leaving a message which they can read. The amount you give out depends on how many you have yourself.

To check how many you have, go to your user CP (link on the forum toolbar in the top left of the page). Scroll to the bottom, past subscribed threads, and your total rep points and last five comments (if they left comments) should be there, if there are any.

I think that's all :)

EDIT: I knew someone would beat me to it. Hurrah for the extra post, anyway.

munky_magik 01-19-2005 10:10 AM

you can also only give out yay much rep in 24 hours, and you can't rep the same user twice in close succsession.
