Now I'm digging some Port Salut.

Best. Cheese. Ever.

Music-wise, today at work I dug several things, since I just stuck my mp3 player on random. I particularly enjoyed Mansun, Stevie Wonder, Boyz II Men, and Kraftwerk.

I'm now listening to a compilation CD from my college library, called Blue Christmas - 15 tracks of Faith, Hope, and Seasonal Misery. Came free with Mojo a while back, apparently. Here's the track list.

1. The Flaming Lips - A Change At Christmas (Say It Isn't So)
2. Rufus Wainwright - Spotlight On Christmas
3. Marvin Gaye - Purple Snowflakes
4. The Staple Singers - Who Took The Merry Out Of Christmas?
5. The O'Jays - Christmas Ain't Christmas, New Year's Ain't New Year's Without The One You Love
6. Charles Brown - Please Come Home For Christmas
7. David McAlmont & David Arnold - Have Yourself A Merry Christmas
8. A Girl Called Eddy - The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot
9. James Brown - Let's Make Christmas Mean Something This Year (Pts 1 & 2)
10. Neal Casal - Cora Jones
11. The Handsome Family - So Much Wine
12. Diana Ross & The Supremes - Just A Lonely Christmas
13. Ed Harcourt - In The Bleak Midwinter
14. BB King - Christmas Celebration
15. The Ventures - Jingle Bell Rock

We had a snow day today, so I figured it was kinda fitting. It's a kewl album.

That is a very sexy compilation. It's snowing right now, but somehow I don't feel in the Christmas spirit. I guess I could have used that CD right about now.

Electrocution 02-24-2005 03:49 PM

Does anyone have the new Handsome Boy Modeling School album?

3rdplanet 02-24-2005 04:01 PM

The Secret Machines have caught my ear.

If you mean White People, I'm pretty sure almost everyone on the forum has it.

I love TSM. Their album is excellent.

Yeah, I meant White People. I'll just IM some random person and hope they have it.

I don't have it. I'm kinda undecided on them at the moment. The song with Del and Alex Kapranos is kinda annoying. But the song they did with Cat Power was awesome.

The album's more like the Cat Power song, which is my second favourite on the album. You'll at least like Greatest Mistake (Jamie Cullum & John Oates), and Breakdown (Jack Johnson).

Swami 02-24-2005 05:04 PM

Cat Power > Handsome Boy

Iai 02-24-2005 05:06 PM

I only have one record by each (White People, and Moon Pix). I prefer HBMS by a tiny amount.

That's good to know (except I hate Jack Johnson). Might check it out sometime.

Agreed.

Swami 02-24-2005 05:09 PM

Damm straight indieboy!

Little Man being Erased 02-24-2005 05:09 PM

Mmmmm, I really should be picking up You Are Free.

asymm 02-24-2005 05:14 PM

Ack! Christened the indieboy yet again!

and yes, Little Man, you definitely should. Very strong, powerful album.

Swami 02-24-2005 05:19 PM

I'm sorry, I shall refrain in future. :)

I've been meaning to get it for quite a while now.

I have grown to like that song a lot. Mostly because I love Del. I only just found a copy of the album yesterday in the music store so I might go buy it today.

And yes, you need the power of the cat.

What are the Jackofficers like?

Been digging Locust Abortion Technician by Butthole Surfers and Darklands by JAMC.

Electrocution 02-24-2005 07:34 PM

Speaking of the Butthole Surfers, does anyone know what album "Avalanche" is on?

Little Man being Erased 02-24-2005 07:38 PM

I think you're talking about the song "Pepper," and it's on Electriclarryland.

Electrocution 02-24-2005 07:40 PM

is that the one that's talking about all the kids dying and what not?

Electrocution 02-24-2005 07:43 PM

ok thanks

Little Man being Erased 02-24-2005 07:48 PM

Yep, that's the one.
What are the Jackofficers like?

Think of the Beverly Hills Cop theme song, now imagine iff the Butthole Surfers covered it. Thats basically the sound of The Jackofficers. Sad thing is, Gibby barely sings in the album I have.

Swami 02-24-2005 08:35 PM

Is Gibby in the band? Is it his new band?

AK47 02-24-2005 08:38 PM

No it's not his new band it's just a side project. I think!

Swami 02-24-2005 08:41 PM

Ah I see.

zola_bola 02-24-2005 08:54 PM

What I've been listening to lately

Broken Social Scene - Lover's Spit, Stars and Sons, KC Accidental
The Replacements - Birthday Gal, Alex Chilton, Election Day

The Notorious B.I.G. - Hypnotize, Long Kiss Goodnight
Robert Johnson - I Believe I'll Dust My Broom, Cross Road Blues

Everyone should try to get there hands on The Amazing Verticalville's self titled album. Your hunting it down will be rewarded with awesome music.

Happymeal 02-24-2005 09:11 PM
I love TSM. Their album is excellent.
They are snuggling right in the gap between ambience, rock and indie for me. Fantastic stuff.
