^^He's talented and inventive, what more do you want?

SlaveToTheGrind 05-04-2004 10:26 AM

where's he inventive? i want fast drums and more double bass

SonorKen 05-04-2004 10:31 AM
Can I be the first to say that you're an idiot????
Give me one reason why he sucks as a drummer.
HAHA Im glad you pointed out Im an idiot. I will assure you I am not an idiot although I am alot of other things. Well, if you were a drummer that was worth anything you would realize why most good drummers think Lars is a waste. Metallica should have changed drummers about 8 years ago. His music is un-inspiring, simple, and basically Lars has become lazy. Now, I was a HUGE Lars fan on Metallicas first 2, maybe 3 albums when he actually played drums. After that he became lazy and paid.

Now, instead of calling me an idiot I would suggest you go educate yourself to some of Lars playing. If your a drummer my guess is that you have been playing for less than 2 years and are about 13 years old. Nothing wrong with young drummers, I help them out ALL the time, young drummers just seem to get all riled up when someone picks on poor little lazy rich Lars. SFK.

SlaveToTheGrind 05-04-2004 10:33 AM

hey photophobic. let's so that's all a matter of opinion ok? i don't want to start another debate.

Photophobic 05-04-2004 10:35 AM

"Well, if you were a drummer that was worth anything you would realize why most good drummers think Lars is a waste."
Are you saying I should say Lars sucks just because good drummers do? that's weak dude.

"If your a drummer my guess is that you have been playing for less than 2 years and are about 13 years old."
I've been playing 3 years and I'm 15

"young drummers just seem to get all riled up when someone picks on poor little lazy rich Lars"
I wasn't really getting all riled up, it's just that Lars has been a huge influence on my drumming and I respect him a lot as a drummer, and I wanted to hear your reasons for saying he sucks.

Abbath 05-04-2004 10:36 AM

What is the song Metallica plays BEFORE Ecstasy of gold?? I heard it before the shows I have seen and before the Rock'am Ring concert. I think it a AC/DC song, but I'm not sure. Do you know what it's called???

SonorKen 05-04-2004 10:37 AM
where's he inventive? i want fast drums and more double bass
Hey Slave,

I'll bet you and I have some of the some ideas when it comes to Lars hatred. For me personally I felt like I have been let down by Lars. He fires out the first several Metallica albums and just flat wears the heads off the drums! I was a HUGE Lars fan! He was right there with Peart. Then after he became lazy, stayed lazy, and then tried to re-invent himself with that crap on St. Anger is just really pissed me off. I just feel like he has sold himself out and wasted the best years of his drumming career. I wish I could go back in time and tell him this........

I think it's by Aerosmith.

And to Stagefrightken, I'm not saying that he is the perfect drummer, and to some extent I agree that the first 2 or 3 albums were the best of his drumming (from what I've heard of them) for the fast stuff, but it's also the way he plays on the slower stuff that I like. For example the drumming at the begining of one, with just the hi-hats and the bass just blew me away, I don't know why but thought as soon as I heard it that it fitted the guitar riff perfectly, which is the main point of drums, to fit with the other instruments.

To answer your questions 1 by 1, if you will listen to an idiot that is...
1. No, Im not saying you should think Lars sucks because I (myself being a great drummer if I do say so) or any other drummer thinks so. If I had to guess you probably think Travis Barker and Joey Jordison are phenominal too. Well I think they both suck! But thats another arguement. I would like to see you, as a new drummer, move past Lars into some REAL drummers who can inspire greatness. Go tie on some Danny Carey, Neil Peart.

The 2nd part of this "discussion" about you being a new drummer and your age, I pretty much nailed that on the head.

The 3rd part dealing with Lars being an influence. There will be a day in your drumming future, if you continue with it, that you will think to yourself, man, that smartass on the MX forums was right, Lars does kinda suck and he sold himself out. Its great that Lars inspired you at this point of your drumming career. But, as your skills increase, and they will, and they will increase past the skill level of that which Lars has played for the past 10 years, you will discover what all the other more experienced drummers have been telling you. At this time words like Colutia, Carey, Beauford, Palmer, and Bruford will make up your vocabulary.

Now as I told you earlier, an idiot I am not.......

Wanna guess what the song is called? I got no ide and I want to know. The lyrics goes like this:

"it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock'n roll"

That's the only part I remember...

Its a long way to the top, by ACDC.

superpeer 05-04-2004 11:12 AM

Stagefrightken, you said you were a big fan of lars' drumming on the first two albums.

Yet, you say he sucks.

It's not because he sucks (from your point of view) now, that his earlier work was erased.

Photophobic 05-04-2004 11:12 AM
If I had to guess you probably think Travis Barker and Joey Jordison are phenominal too.
Joey Jordison is pretty good yes. His double-bass heel-toe technique is quite impressive although he doesn't use the maxim of his technical ability in his songs, presumably because he is not good enough to be able to play it live everytime. Travis is over-rated, but I have nothing against him.

I forget which bands Danny Carey and Niel Pert play for, but I know I don't listen to them. This is why I'm most influenced by Nicko McBrain and Lars, because those are the bands I listen to the most. If you want to recomend some songs featuring those drummers you mentioned at their creative and/or technical best, then I will try and get hold of them.

As a fellow drummer,i agree with SFK on this :thumb: .Lars is terribly overrated.A friend of mine is a huge Metallica fan too,and he also thinks lars is the best drummer in the world(even though he knows nothing about drums),and i think that's just plain stupid.

Dumdidej 05-04-2004 11:15 AM

What is it with MetallicA and Napster??

Danny Carey(Tool) - try Schism,Sober,Ticks and Leeches
Neil Peart(Rush) - Sorry,don't know any songs

Photophobic 05-04-2004 11:18 AM

^^Thanks.

And to Dumdidej, Metallica were very prominent in the anti-file sharing campaign, and they sued Napster over it, as did Dr.Dre.

Message to SlaveToTheGrind- Your avatar rocks. Sweet guitar, is it yours? What make/model is it?

I've been playing guitar for a year now, started off on a 20 year old acoustic, then found Metallica and had to go electric! :thumb: Currently playing an Epiphone SG.
Favourite songs to play are Fade to Black, M.O.P, Creeping Death, Sanitarium (have just nailed the second solo bit) and Sandman. Anyone got any tips for playing Four Horseman and Blackened? I can't get the rhythm right.

Hey LFDY! Caught me over here did ya! Well the drum forum is boring today so I thought I would try to do some good over here hehe!

Ok, Rush, Spirit of Radio, Free Will (check out that hat tempo!), and Tom Sawyer.

Tool, Sober is Tools most popular song but it is kind of easy to play. You wanna hear some Carey in his finest listen to "The Grudge, 46&2, Aenema (which I was playing last night at practice), and really just about anything on Lateralus (the CD.)

Go buy the Lateralus CD and give us a report tomm.. SFK.

Photophobic 05-04-2004 11:29 AM

Anyone know where I can hear those songs without paying for it?

SonorKen 05-04-2004 11:31 AM

I'll tell ya what to do. Goto www.dannycarey.org
Once there enter the site then click on education
Once in the education link click on cyberclinics
Watch all 3 of those cyberclinics and then let us know what you think. Be sure to read the description about each clinic. SFK.

Photophobic 05-04-2004 11:32 AM

ok, beats homework, thanks :thumb:

Photophobic 05-04-2004 11:52 AM

Well, the first two were pretty good, but he's not THAT amazing. He does however compose and work with his rythm section incredibly well. The solo bit was better, but there were some annoying sounds in there, mostly the cymbal patterns.

SonorKen 05-04-2004 11:54 AM

Tab it out and then you will see what so great about it...

Photophobic 05-04-2004 11:57 AM

I'm not saying it wasn't great, or that I could play or compose anything like that well, but he's not as totaly awesome as you made him out to be. Something about the beats just didn't do it for me.

SonorKen 05-04-2004 12:03 PM

I guess your last chance would be to download some of the music and listen to the full songs. Yea, go try that.....

Wierd-Shadow 05-04-2004 12:05 PM

Is anyone here going to the Metallica concert May 9th in Winnipeg? It is going to OWN!!!

Has anyone been to there shows of the same tour? They better not of went all 'St.Anger!'

Photophobic 05-04-2004 12:09 PM

^^geez, relax they only play like 2 or 3 songs of St.Anger because ****s like you whine about it so much. And SFK, I don't have anyway to download songs unless someone gives me a link.

livefastdieyoung 05-04-2004 12:12 PM
Hey LFDY! Caught me over here did ya! Well the drum forum is boring today so I thought I would try to do some good over here hehe!

Yeah,it is really boring today on the drum forum
For Photophobic : try downloading Kazaa?

Burdcheese 05-04-2004 12:17 PM

SFK: I thought better of you than to come here and start a flame-war.
Lars is by no means the greatest drummer in the world, but he is far more than competent and definately does not "suck"

Photo: As LFDY said - Kazaa
