Lateralus alone owns anything Dream Theaters done. :p
And Satch, could you imagine a 5 min radio edit of the song? |
Lateralus is easily the most overrated album on these boards.
|
Hardly. :p Images and Words is.

Take the Time sounds really odd to me when it's shortened for the video. So, I can't imagine what the **** 6DOIT would sound like. BTW, did you ever notice how cheesy Dream Theater videos are? |
 The transitions on a radio edit of that song would be so terrible... I actually kind of want to hear it now.
|
Hardly. :p Images and Words is.
Yeh... not even close. You can't even begin to deny that Tool has the most idiotic fanboys on these boards though. |
What?! Yes I can, the people in the Tool thread are some of the most intelligent on this board. But I will say that Tool fanboys outside of this board, are the stupiest, most narrowminded on the planet.
|
Rush > Opeth > DT > Tool
Images and Words and Awake still make DT better than Tool, no matter what crap they've done since.

Lateralus is easily the most overrated album on these boards.

Hardly. :p Images and Words is.
In general, it would be Rush > Tool > DT/Opeth. We were ranking popularity, not quality of band. I don't think you can really compare Dream Theater and Tool. I mean, I love Images and Words and I love Lateralus, but they are so completely different from each other that I wouldn't know how to critique them in the same way. They both achieve their goals, if you know what I mean. Their approaches to music are so different from each other. I don't know, I just love both bands. Oh, and come to the Tool thread if you want to meet some cool people. We aren't pretentious fanboys, we just like to chat about Tool (and other bands for that matter). Give it a chance sometime. :) Some Tool fans do suck the big one though. Just like some punk fans suck the big one. And so on, and so on... |
We weren't really comparing the albums to eachother, we were saying which was more overrated on these boards. I was mainly kidding around, I donno if he was.

Aye. |

Yeah, I know. I don't think he was though. Atleast, it seemed to me that he really hated Tool. I don't think either album is overrated. Okay, maybe some Tool fanboys go a little far when they equate it to the second coming of Christ, but it's still an awfully good cd, imo. Oh, and I would love to hear the 5 minute 6DOIT. There'd be about 45 seconds of each song. It would sound really...interesting, to say the least. |
there are the tool fans that read into the songs, are awesomely intelligent and make up their own minds on what the songs are about, thinking about this for themselves
then there are the tool fanboys that think maynard ****s pure gold and that adam jones is guitar god... personally, i rest comfortably in the middle somewhere (i tend to believe maynards **** would be bronze), but mainly on the boards here for tool there are extremely smart people mostly a few smarter than here on the dt thread |

I got Train of Thought a couple weeks ago, I really really like everything on it except for Stream of Consciousness. The first four ultra-heavy songs are perfect, Vacant is great as well, but to me, SoC is an aggravating ten minutes I could do without. In The Name Of God is good for the most part.
I still think The Glass Prison is the best song they've ever written, I'd kill to hear that live. I think mostly, I'm a fan of their heavier stuff (especially stuff like Panic Attack, Home, The Mirror and others from Awake). |

If it was more like 5 minutes, than it might be a bit better. I still like it though. I don't think I have a preference of a certain type of DT song, just as long as it's good. Does anyone else think The Glass Prison is overrated? I'm probably going to get killed for that  . I think it's good, but not exactly an amazing song. |
'Stream of Consciousness' > Every other Dream Theater instrumental
'The Glass Prison' < Every other AA song 'In the Name of God' > Every other song on Train Of Thought |

The Glass Prison owns live...such a great song. It drags on in one or two places, but not enough to bring the quality of the song down. |
This Dying Soul>The Glass Prison>Root of All Evil
Opinions... |
The Glass Prison > The Root Of All Evil > This Dying Soul
I REALLY hope they play The Glass Prison when I see them in October. |
hey people I havent been around these parts in a while. I have 2 DT Discs including the budokan set and enjoy them thoroughly. I have to say though:
never, ever heard them on the radio. Yes, most songs are long but come on...maybe DT should just put a couple short songs on each record that could be single-worthy. |
That was what they intended with...Panic Attack and These Walls? for 8vm? I was pretty sad that they didn't play ITNoG nor TGP when i saw them last week, but we got As I Am and a slightly sped-up version of Pull Me Under :O
|
This Dying Soul > The Root Of All Evil > The Glass Prison
I am not a fan of TGP, and TROAE is pretty good, but TDS was incredible live. |
This Dying Soul is one of my least favorite songs off Train Of Thought... its just so... annoying almost. If the song would have ended around 8 min, it would have been decent but it just drags on with mindless soloing.

i think the same way about Endless Sacrifice. good song, but the instrumental part goes on for aaaaaages. |
True, I still prefer Endless Sacrifice though.
|
i still think its the best song on ToT.
|
I like the chorus to This Dying Soul quite a bit, but the song does go on for a bit too long. I still like it a lot though.
|
That last minute of This Dying Soul was unecessary, but the rest of the song is pure gold.
|
I think after the beginning of the song, right when LaBrie starts singing, until the end, the song gets boring.
