|

|
God I love Throwdown. Upon first examination, their lyrics seem kinda cheesy and bad. But I've come to love them. Because it's all about knowing who your true friends are, and that's so hard for me right now.
|
They're playing in NYC on Wensday. I don't have the money to go :(
|
Their shows must be fuckin' nuts.
|
They are, Watch out for them krews though... They need anti-krews!
They are, Watch out for them krews though... They need anti-krews!
Hahahahaha, Throwdown are in Klobber. The guys in the band don't do anything, they just hang out at Del Taco in Newport Beach and wait for people to come up and be like "OMG YOU'RE DAVE FROM THROWDOWN! YOU GUYS ROCK! I SAW YOU AT OZZFEST!"

Dude, I think Del Taco is like the official Crew hangout. When that shiz went down with my buddies and that little crew, they told them to meet them at a Del Taco in Pomona or that they were pussies. |

Hardcore is punk influenced music that sometimes has a heavier sound and sometime's doesn't. It sometimes have breakdowns and some don't, this depends more on the age of the band. Some are straight edge, some aren't. But most have honest sincere lyrics about issues that they themselves face. Metalcore is obviously metal influenced and because they're of this there is more complexity in the writings of guitar, more noted riffs added to it than hardcore has.. Some say that it has punk influences...but that depends on what band you are talking about. Metalcore has a lot of breakdowns, most of which have the "JUN JUN JUN" sound which some double bass. Metalcore was a lot better a couple years ago before more and more band's started learning that you can tune into drop-C, use only thin picks, and get a drummer who knows his double bass. Hardcore bands: Blood For Blood, Chain Of Strength, American Nightmare, Death Threat, Judge, Gorilla Biscuits, 7 Seconds, Champion, Count Me Out, Carry On, Terror Metalcore bands: Hatebreed, 100 Demons, Bury Your Dead, Black My Heart, On Broken Wings, Hoods, North Side Kings, Walls Of Jericho, Clenched Fist MORE Grindcore in its purest form consisted of short, apocalyptic blasts of noise played on standard heavy metal instrumentation (distorted guitar, bass, drums). Although grindcore wasn't just randomly improvised, it certainly didn't follow conventional structure, either; while riffs could sometimes be picked out, pure grindcore never featured verses, choruses, or even melodies. Grindcore vocals sounded torturous, ranging from high-pitched shrieks to low, throat-shredding growls and barks; although the lyrics were usually quite verbose, they were very rarely intelligible. Some bands in this catagory can also be known as Mathcore. Meaning they're more complex in the musical writings. Grindcore bands: Napalm Death, Dillinger Escape Plan, Death, Carcass, The Locust, The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza, Cock and Ball Torture, Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed... Emo style has become broader over the years. In the beginning, these bands consisted mostly of people who played in hardcore punk bands, got burned out its limited forms, and moved to a guitar-oriented, midtempo rock-based sound with emotional punk vocals (i.e., no posed soulful crooning like pop music). The central aspect here is the guitars - distorted, strummed mostly in duo unison, with occasional catchy riff highlights. This becomes known as the classic "D.C. sound," along with the octave chords that show up in later "emo" music. Later bands bring in more pop elements, like catchy-riff based songs, pop song structures (listen to Jawbreaker's "Chesterfield King" to illustrate this), and less-punk, more-smoothly-sung high-register singing (less yelling, straining, throatiness). Listen to Elliot or Chamberlain for an example of how alternative-pop this music has become. Yet those bands are undeniably still emocore. Also note most emo bands play Gibson Les Paul guitars, with a few SGs, and use mostly Marshall JCM-800 amps...Emo has recently evolved into something more complex since the D.C. era. Bands have adopted to more obscure lyrics along with intricate riffs and interesting vocals. Emo bands: Rites of Spring, Embrace, Gray Matter, Ignition, Dag Nasty, Monsula, Fugazi kind of, Fuel, Samiam, Jawbreaker, Hot Water Music, Elliot, Friction, Soulside, early Lifetime, Split Lip/Chamberlain, Kerosene 454
There are a couple of different 'hardcore' scenes. One sprang from the DC hardcore/emo/'screamo' scene and now features stuff like Yaphet Kotto, etc.. more screamo-ish bands.. Based on DIY ethics, labels: Ebullition, Level Plane, Mountain, Hand.Held.Heart, Witching Hour. Lyrics about politics/ personal issues. The other one is more CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA, with barrels, sing-alongs, mosh pits. Bands include The Dead Scenestars, maybe Blood for Blood etc. Kind of straight-edge-ish stuff. Lyrics are about being stabbed in the back by friends, mostly. There's also the 'commercial' hardcore on Victory and Revelation records, but I'm not going to go into that too much.. they act like major lables, but try to keep their image 'true' and 'hardcore.' As if we're falling for that, hah! Grind is spot on... Grind stuff is Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Daughters, Pig Destroyer, NOT Dillinger Escape Plan. Emo.. I'd have to disagree with your description of emo. The bands you mentioned (apart from Rites of Spring and Embrace) aren't really emo bands. Emo bands did the tense build-up songs which climaxed at the end. Unlinke modern 'emo' bands, the emotion was real. Bands sometimes cried at shows, fell down alot, etc. Also strictly D.I.Y. Bands: Still Life, Embassy, Navio Forge, Native Nod, Allure, Driftwood. I hope this cleared some stuff up. |
sorry for being a noob, but 117 pages is alittle much to go through. I was wonder where avenged sevenfold would fall. their last album seemed more metal, but Sounding the Seventh Trumpet was a 'grab bag' ranging from hardcore to cock rock to heavy metal. so where would you put them?
|
If I remember correctly, they're kinda metalcore..
Chugga-chugga-chugga double-bass drum? Chunky guitars? Roared vocals? |

Grind is spot on... Grind stuff is Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Daughters, Pig Destroyer, NOT Dillinger Escape Plan.
No none of thats grind. They are grind influenced metalcore. Grind is heavier, it usually sounds a lot like death metal. Check out Napalm deaths old stuff for a good example. Its pretty much just noise. The screams/growls usually sound demonic or posessed of some sort. I dig it :thumb: |
RevengeOfTheVillageIdiot- After being on this board for about an hour (and about a year before that.,. my username got lost), I now know not to pay any attention to you.
You're one of the kids that will always stay listening to MTV stuff, because you're too closed-minded to accept recommendations from other people. |
Anyone here heard of Sadaharu?
|
Those commercial hardcore band syour talking about.... do you mean fashioncore bands like Eighteen Vision, Atreyu and the such?
|
fashionXcore.
Totally. I'm just atlking about most stuff on Revelation and Victory. |
Most of that stuff is bad metalcore.
|
So true.
|
Most of that stuff is bad metalcore.
I'm not afraid to admit I like a lot of the generic metalcore bands. Atreyu, A7X, It Dies Today, etc. all get as much rotation in my cd player as Champion, Gorilla Biscuits, Comeback Kid, Minor Threat, With Honor, etc. Also, do you any of you like Love Is Red? I downloaded their cd a few weeks ago, and it's pretty good. Sort of a mix between Terror, Shai Hulud, and youth crew. |
Love Is Red is playing around here in November.
|
I like the bad metalcore too, just real metalcore is alot better.
Love is Red is horrible on CD, but good live. I've seen them twice. |
Dude, I think Del Taco is like the official Crew hangout.
Real metalcore? Like what?
Hatebreed, Sworn Enemy, Black My Heart, 100 Demons, Bury Your Dead, Hoods...

|
Metalcore is just another fad.
|
what makes it real?
50% Metal, 50% Hardcore
|
Metalcore is just another fad.
And so are Level Plane bands.
