And, I know its a little late, but if I had to choose 3 songs to tribute to Metallica it would be...

1. Master of Puppets (:D From the good ol' days.)
2. NEM or F2B (Switchin up the style..)
3. The Unnamed Feeling or St. Anger. (Good tunes, TUF is really underrated.)

Got songs from all 3 Eras, but if I could choose one more, Id put No Leaf Clover on that list. :)

I actually completely agree with that. I wanted to point something out on that but I couldn't quite think of it. Just because they use extreme vocals does not make it any better/worse than Metallica. In fact, I actually prefer extreme vocals over sung vocals. It's amazing the amount of passion that can actually go into them, but you would never guess.

Eh I would choose Creeping Death (early stuff), Frayed Ends Of Sanity(middle, though good luck playing it all the way through flawlessly), and Until It Sleeps(later, I wouldn't include any St.Anger stuff, because all though I do enjoy some of the Load era material, St.Anger just honestly isn't that good of an album imo).

Nothing else Matters, The God That Failed, The Unforgiven all had excellent writing just to name a few. And the guitar tone on that album is my favourite. That album was also one where James still had his rough metal voice.

Metallica were a Thrash band for a few songs on Kill Em All and one or two on RTL, MOP, AJFA. That's it. Most of Pre-1991 was just straight heavy metal songs.

Metallica is barely thrash.

And he actually did have points. He mentioned the songwriting. Which I agree with. The Unforgiven is one of the best written songs by Metallica they have. They made a very wise choice in trimming down the song lengths from AJFA to Black as even though I love AJFA, the title track among others drew on wayyyy too long.
