The Oncoming Storm is the one I have, it's cool. The other bands are mostly nuts, but freakin sweet.

And I was listening to "Headhunters", Ray. Not sure what Rockit is.
"Rockit" is on 1982's Future Shock...it's probably one of the most well-known songs of the past 25 years, even if few people know what it's called.
I've listened to a couple of songs off The Blueprint Dives and a couple of songs off Synergy. I suppose I was mainly disappointed because they're mislabelled as technical death so I was expecting something more familiar and closer to the bands I normally listen.

Extol remind me of BTBAM. They have a nu-ish touch I peronally dislike, their clean parts sound mellow and the death parts are decent, yet sound a bit forced. Anyway, the older songs were more listenable in comparison to the newer. Dont forget I'm juding from a traditional metal background though.
The first two extol releases are actualyl phenominal, that was before they jumped on the metalbore bandwagon to try and gain popularity and get money, and they were a bit technical then, so that is where the label came from.

Why did you put '(not a series)' after it?

Jom 08-12-2005 01:54 PM
Why did you put '(not a series)' after it?
Because it has become alarmingly trendy to write extensive articles on bands. This practically takes away from the Featured Artists series.

Now, I realize I've said that we need articles like this, but people are getting to the point where they're just shlocking material from websites or copy/pasting it and calling it a thread. That's what needs to go.

Oh, and today is the crazyass Capture the Flag game. We'll see how it goes, heh.

MBS 08-12-2005 02:03 PM

Capture the Flag sounds fun.

How big is the park?

Ah right. So it's not something that I'd have to do if I ever made a thread?

Jom 08-12-2005 02:19 PM
Capture the Flag sounds fun.

It's huge. There's soccer fields, disc golf course, picnic area, volleyball courts, etc. We're playing in this huge open area, but part of the area will be within the woods, too.
Ah right. So it's not something that I'd have to do if I ever made a thread?
Well, nah, I'm not saying that. If you make a thread, do it. You shouldn't feel like you can't make a thread here. Just be weary of HeavyRiva's wrath when it comes to pseudo-FAs :)

I didnt do that. I used allmusic, their website, metal archives, and other sources, plus my own knowldge of the band to write it. Theres no way that I could make it sufficient without using other sources.

Plus I have been trying to make them shorter so just incase someone wants to do an FA I havent gone into painstaking detail and made it so their FA wouldnt be interesting.

The only reason they seem long is because they are short paragraphs.

Jom 08-12-2005 02:35 PM
I didnt do that.
I wasn't citing you and claimed that you did :)

Endless Obsession 08-12-2005 02:37 PM

What is a referral and how do you refer someone?

munky_magik 08-12-2005 03:27 PM
What is a referral and how do you refer someone?
A referal is someone who cites your name when they sign up.

Arucard 08-12-2005 03:28 PM

I cited my own name when i signed up with my ban account.

Sheesh, there's so much to learn here :(
I cited my own name when i signed up with my ban account.
Heh, that's what I did. I wonder if the referral still counts, since my ban account was merged with this one.

You have 2 referals so probobly.

Joe, you dont have any referals though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-12-2005 03:40 PM

Arucard- I did that too. :upset:

Lunch 08-12-2005 04:14 PM

So I just got back from Boston, which I really thought was a great city. I'm seriously considering going to BU now.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-12-2005 04:19 PM

What did you like about Boston? I was there when I was 3, and it was pretty wicked. I got to ride in some girl's Barbi motorized plastic car thing.

Maybe that was Baltimore. I can never differentiate between the two, because they're both cities that start with B, and they're both in states that start with M.

halfdeadhippo 08-12-2005 04:20 PM

So I haven't been around here in a while due to vacations and whatnot. Anyway, what's up with all the unofficial FA type threads?

The key difference for me is that Baltimore sucks and Boston is great.

/would respond more, but AIM convo is covering this

ATM 08-12-2005 04:24 PM

I live about 45 minutes from Baltimore

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-12-2005 04:24 PM

Steerpike started everything with his spotlights, then after that, it seemed like everyone just sort of jumped on the bandwagon. There are quite a few good ones, like Steerpike's and Lunch's, but there are starting to be repeat bands and stuff, so it's really getting quite overdone, despite good intentions.

Lunch 08-12-2005 04:25 PM

Hmm, I remember having AIM...

I just remember the traffic being miserable. Besides that I think it was cool There are a million great colleges in and around there, I never thought of it as a college town though

EDIT: So if I have a refferal, it means that someone I know signed up and put my name into something?

halfdeadhippo 08-12-2005 04:27 PM

Yeah, when I left, the only one I noticed was Steerpike's. Now there's like 10 different series that I've seen. I give it less than two weeks before "series" threads are outlawed, which would be a shame if that included Riva's threads.
So if I have a refferal, it means that someone I know signed up and put my name into something?
Yes, sir.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-12-2005 04:34 PM

That's not really a series though. It's a weekly summary of what's gone in that week pertaining to R&M. Maybe instead of people creating their own series, they could just write FAs?

Walrus Gumboot 08-12-2005 04:35 PM

Fixed

I wonder who it could have been...
