That's a good list. I'm a big Clapton fan.

Neil's first 2 songs-meh

Finale was pretty cool especially because Gordon Lightfoot was in the background singing and he's like 75 years old. Good Day.

Seeing Gordon Lightfoot was cool.

You're right, he's gotta be in his 70s by now
Surely Pink Floyd and Rush are more Prog than Classic Rock?

Mind you, there seems to be a lot of crossover between the 2 genres around that time.
Classic Rock is arguably not even a genre. It's a classification of music made in the late 1960's and early 70's. Pink Floyd can be classified as Classic Rock but it is Prog music. Classic Rock is highly diverse classification of music ranging from Jazz Fusion to Country Rock to Prog to Psychedelia and so on. Classic Rock has no particular sound.

Woodstock 07-03-2005 09:36 AM

I don't like to call Pink Floyd prog, just doesn't seem right.

He's right. Classic rock can apply to rock, prog, proto-punk, some jazz, blues, just about anything if it's from the '60s or '70s.

OK at the end of this song they say "If you want some fun take Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da". What do you think they mean by that? Possible drug?

Has anyone found any Floyd bootlegs yet? If so feel free to post them. :)

Okay, I pretty much agree with this, with the exception of the Jazz Fusion comment. I would never consider Herbie Hancock, Mahavishnu Orch. or Weather Report to be Classic Rock.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-03-2005 10:12 AM

No Jeff Beck nor Frank Zappa? I think Jazz Fusion can easily be considered Classic Rock but it all comes down to a matter of opinion. Classic Rock is pretty flexible.

Glitterati 07-03-2005 10:26 AM

Bah....some say the lizard king is still alive today. I don't believe it, but that would be awesome. I love The Doors.

There are some classic rock bands/musicians that were rock but used bits of jazz, like Van Morrison or The Doors.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-03-2005 10:32 AM

You stole guitarguy's avatar^

The Doors had tons of Jazz influence.

I don't really even consider Zappa's stuff like Hot Rats (Except "WTP") to be Classic Rock, especially if you consider their to be a sound to Classic Rock. That goes for some Jeff Beck stuff too.

But the defintive Fusion bands aren't really Classic Rock. Like Bitches Brew; it has some similarites but is prodiminately Jazz.

It just doesn't seem right to consider Al DiMeola or Jaco Pastorius solo stuff to be Classic Rock.

Yeah, the drumming was very jazzy. It was mostly the drumming but also in the guitar.

I love the doors' drumming, that guy's got style.

Daniel! 07-03-2005 01:56 PM

What Neil Young albums are a little more electric. Like are thier any good albums that sound more like Southern Man than like O Lonsome Me?

BludgeonySteve 07-03-2005 01:56 PM

Ragged Glory.

That's all I can think of that's completely electric.

Yea, he's good. Each musician in The Doors is pretty good.

lunch998 07-03-2005 02:19 PM

Agreed, I quite enjoy Densmore's drumming.

RockAndRoll 07-03-2005 02:21 PM
Yea, he's good. Each musician in The Doors is pretty good.
Yes they are, and both as a drummer and a s a musician I admire much of the drum work. The drum work sounds amazing and it's something beyond your basic rock beat. He's got a real great style, I love it,l He's a big influence of mine.

On a side note I'm trying (slowly) to learn the keyboard part to riders on the storm (I've been teaching myself some piano). It's really cool, still beyond my capabilities at this point (And I don't even have the music for the solo) but it's cool stuff.

RockAndRoll 07-03-2005 02:22 PM

Everybody Knows This is Nowhere is much more electric than a lot of his albums.

Has anyone seen the movie Spun? I watched it the other night, and it was pretty good. There were appearances by Deborah Harry and Rob Halford and probably some more famous musicians I didn't notice. Anyone else see this movie?

RockAndRoll 07-03-2005 02:50 PM

No I haven't, what's it about?

thickasabrick 07-03-2005 03:06 PM
No I haven't, what's it about?
A bunch of meth heads. The main character is like a nice quiet guy who doesn't think he is addicted to meth, but by the end of the movie he definitely is. The movie only takes place over a couple of days, and the main character works for a bunch of meth cooks/dealers. He mainly just drives them around. That's basically what the movie is, a couple days in the life of a meth head. Debbie Harry is his lesbian next door neighbour, and Rob Halford (who looks the same as he did 20 years ago) works at a porno store.

lunch998 07-03-2005 03:07 PM

Sounds like GTA.

thickasabrick 07-03-2005 03:12 PM
Sounds like GTA.
It's a cool movie, a little strange though. It actually shows the movie through the eyes of someone on meth, every once in a while everything will go like twice as fast, or everything will start like twitching and crazy stuff will happen. It's weird and hard to explain. Good movie though.

Ok my mom just called and gave me like five hundred chores to do. I gotta go :upset:

Glitterati 07-03-2005 04:03 PM

John Densmore's drumming is cool. I always loved Ray Manzarek's keyboard skills.

I got Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska today.

Yeah I love Densmore's drumming as well.. I think each of the doors members had a lot of individuality, yet somehow Jim ALWAYS gets all the credit =(

RockAndRoll 07-03-2005 05:16 PM

It's because he's the frontman. And he was the most outrageous.

All Led Zeppelin songs that I have heard on the radio in only two days. The classic rock stations are full of them, and yet no Stairway!

lunch998 07-03-2005 05:25 PM

Led Zeppelin is getting murdered by radio stations these days.

RockAndRoll 07-03-2005 05:32 PM

ACtually the only zppeling osng I've heard on the radio in a number of weeks has been stairway, and I've heard it 3 or 4 times.
