unless you want to use an illegal download thingy.
when i write songs the bass normally follows guitar.

Quickdrop 09-12-2005 12:33 PM
Cliff was God. isn't the bass supposed to sorta follow guitar? that's how we
do it in my bands (to a extent)

my mom hates my hair and it isn't really that big...it's cool
when I post up my setup I'll show you
Cliff was awesome. Cliff had the talent, but Jason had the stage presence and appearance. I know alot of people dont like Rob, but personally i think he adds a good element to the band.

Jev 09-12-2005 12:46 PM

Rob is awesome, I like him more than Jason.

Father_Jack 09-12-2005 01:10 PM
Rob is awesome, I like him more than Jason.
Only thing is now, there is noone to sing the quality last chorus on creeping death. Like on Live Sh*t, Jason sings the last chorus with that really raspy voice.

But still Rob > Jason

24 hours after registration. Or you could always hi-jack a thread, not good practice tho.

Welcome to the forums.

good evening everybody

Joe 09-12-2005 02:12 PM

Guys, that's spam. Quit the posts that just say a basic "hi."
Does anyone know a website where I can download some live metallica show bootlegs?

I've searched the net high and low with minimal success. Can someone please direct me to a few links?

thank you
livemetallica.com or allmetallica.com work pretty well. try them out

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:21 PM
the big band stuff is ruïn all the good music
What are you talking about? The orchestra made quite a few of their songs even better.

Some examples:

1. Call of the Ktulu
2. Of Wolf and Man
3.The Thing That Should Not Be
4. For Whom The Bell Tolls
5. No Leaf Clover
6. Devils Dance

Sorry but the songs really came alive with the orchestra. I will give you that the orchestration for Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets did suck though.

Jev 09-12-2005 02:26 PM

MOP's orchestration was good IMO. I didn't like Sad But True.

Father_Jack 09-12-2005 02:28 PM
MOP's orchestration was good IMO. I didn't like Sad But True.
Yeah but i thought that the orchestra took away the raw heavyness that MOP has. Still a great song tho. Yes Sad but True was not too good really.

Whale and Wasp 09-12-2005 02:28 PM

the only S&M song i like is no leaf clover

Jev 09-12-2005 02:30 PM

Best song on S&M.

What about Fuel and Memory Remains, i thought they were done quite well.

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:34 PM

Fuel is another good example. If you watch the documentary of the project, you'll see Michael Kamen trying to get the band to listen to james and kirk and come in after them. Metallica is used to just lettin' things hang and they have to be counted in for this production. It's kinda funny watching the players mess up their parts.

How great is Michael Kamen's ear. He found that 1 person out of a hundred was off by a half step. I probably wouldn't have caught that and I have great ears.

Jev 09-12-2005 02:38 PM

I think it's a natural talent. Thank god I don't possess it for listening to GCSE music ensembles.

clairvoyant 09-12-2005 02:40 PM

No Leaf Clover rocks. I love that song.

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:40 PM

I've noticed you guys mentioning the GCSE. What is that exactly? I'm just a community college student so I don't really know.

Father_Jack 09-12-2005 02:47 PM
I've noticed you guys mentioning the GCSE. What is that exactly? I'm just a community college student so I don't really know.
Its a type of course for 14 to 16 years olds you take while still in compulsery education. It stands for General Certificate in Stardardised something or other :p

What Father Jack said plus it's retarded. Hardest thing learnt was 3 chord theory. now THAT'S saying something.

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:49 PM

Music Education for High Schools?

Unheard of here in California thanks to Govenor Schwarzeneger.

I can't believe I voted for that guy.

Britton 09-12-2005 02:50 PM

I really like S&m I thought it was really creative.
does anyone know how much it was inspired by apacalyptica?

I'm getting my amp today what Metllica song should I play first on it?

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:52 PM

I would try out the clean with the intro to fade to black then test the uber distortion with blackened.

Try down tuned riffs like TTTSNB and Devils Dance.

Britton 09-12-2005 02:53 PM

okay thanks!

Iwas also thinking maybe saniterium

Joe 09-12-2005 03:55 PM
Yeah but i thought that the orchestra took away the raw heavyness that MOP has. Still a great song tho. Yes Sad but True was not too good really.
Yes, MOP and One were the best. But if they could do one they easily could have done Fade to Black... :upset:
I'm getting my amp today what Metllica song should I play first on it?
Awesome, what kind of amp? I play fade to black, but I'm obsessed with that song.

Oh no, I've learned from my lesson. I switched political parties. I'm now a democrat. The stupid things we do as kids........ :upset:

I'm so happy right now. I'm listening to Master of Puppets for the first time in a while. I've been listening to Kill 'em all like crazy and I've just had my fill of that album for a while (though I'll definitely be learning Anesthesia on bass as my first song to learn on bass on the 27th. I play arpeggios on guitar all the time so it won't be anything new.)

vashts80 09-12-2005 07:41 PM
Cliff was God. isn't the bass supposed to sorta follow guitar? that's how we

It can, but in jazz there's usually no guitars to follow. Everybody claims that Cliff was a god, when he wasn't. Anybody can follow the guitar. Hell, my current bass idol Steve DiGiorgio follows the guitar a lot in his metal work. However, there's usually tons of fills by him during songs. Cliff rarely did fills, except on maybe Ktulu and the end of the Creeping Death chorus. Those are the only two songs I can think of that he added fills to.

clairvoyant 09-12-2005 07:42 PM

If any metal bass player should be a god it should be Steve Harris in my opinion.
