Yay!!
After work today, me and the boyfriend went down to VW dealership to look at some Golfs/GTIs. I found a black Golf thats PERFECT except it's 4-door.. I prefer 2-door, but you know, you can't have everything. Oh man.. I'm so excited. It's $14,900 and has 26k miles on it. wewt.
So are you getting that one instead? Anyways, my friend sent me this Candiria cd, and you might describe it as a fusion of metal, jazz, hip-hop, and hardcore. It's definently very cool. |
Bah the 6800GT is too much, I have the 6600GT.
edit: to NJ
There is no such thing as too much when it comes to computers hahaha.
Michael Romeo and Symphony Gaysex can fuck off. sup dudez
eat it, woman :p |
The thing is, I just bought a whole computer, and I was already borrowing $300 from my parents to do so :-/

What're you doing with your BMW, Madey?
|
I'm learning Polonaise in A flat Major by Chopin for piano which is like as hard as say Malmsteen or Batio for guitar, but actually sounds like music.
|
So tomorrow may or may not be my last day at the restaurant. I might actually miss it.
Tomorrow evening I will be participating in a humongous game of capture-the-flag. It's going to span across an entire park. Should be an interesting experience. Oh, and by the way, I uploaded a comic for you to look at. You guys will probably think it's lame, but I haven't really chuckled at a comic in a long time. It's from Pearls Before Swine. hxxp://s63.yousendit.com/d.php?id=22BTY7BZS7S0C2GE1BUPRJBTW8 And one from The Boondocks: hxxp://s57.yousendit.com/d.php?id=2RV2VUBI7BEO8R2G1BROZG2S0 |
I hate Malmsteem with a passion.
|
Sounds nothing like it, but difficulty wise it's equivalent.
|
Dammit Moses, all I can do is tap harmonics on guitar. :emo:
I hate Malmsteem with a passion.
As I said in Cain's Classical Articles thread about him, I believe that art is supposed to move people, and Yngwie Malmsteen's music does not move people, which makes it totally irrelevent. I also don't like how he consistently self-aggrandizing he is--"I have been playing since the age of three", "I have locked myself up for weeks to finish my latest composition". His whole purpose for playing guitar, it seems, is to talk about how much he plays guitar. Bah. |
Cheer up, Jake. You'll be as skilled as me one day and we can become the next (insert virtuoso band here).
I didn't say Dream Theater because I would never let anyone that sounds like Labrie sing for my band. I like his voice but that would not fit with what I write. |
Heh, I don't have that much dedication, and even if I did, I'm not sure I'd want to play stuff like Dream Theater. As Ray pointed out, art is made to inspire, and those types of virtuoso metal bands/musicians don't really do that for me. Either way, I got your point. :p

 Funniest, yet most true statement I've heard all day. |
Dream Theater inspires me alot. The solo's are wanky sometimes but the songs as a whole are really musical.
This song is so hard. It's like he made it specifically hard just to make people refrain from learning it. The hand positions are so weird and there's like three measures where the smallest interval is a ninth. Also there's this one part where you have to do chromatic fourths with one hand and one chromatic line in the other hand. I'll explain it better in a minute. Ok if you have a keyboard or a piano near you and you know what notes are which this should work. Start with your left on C sharp and go up one note at a time hitting all the black and white keys till G, this is a chromatic scale. That is the left hand for this little part. Put your right hand thumb on E and your pointer finger on A and then find a fingering to do a chromatic scale from those notes up six more notes. You should be hitting one note in your left hand and two in your right hand at the same time, so yes three notes all together all doing a scale up. This is all played fast and the whole song consists of things like this but with actual musical themes. |
I actually comprehended a lot of the stuff you said, Moses. :amaze:

pfft, theory show offs :(

Wanna know a band that rocks? Nevermore. I've been listening to their Enemies of Sanity album all day, and man, have they got rhythm chops. They're also probably one of the heaviest bands under the power metal tag.
EDIT: Slug, did you get your Karmapolice account merged? Your joindate is different. I was just playing some CoD multiplayer. Since it's the only FPS that I have other than MoH, I guess that's not much of a surprise, but it's still fun. |
Did you get the new album? I did a thread on it yesterday I believe.

I saw the thread, and no. Is it good? I love their rhythm playing. The solos are way too shreddy, melodyless, and overall wanky to like or be impressed by (they actually kind of sound funny), but their riffs are awesome. I guess that's owed to the fact that their rhythm guy used to be in Cannibal Corpse. |

It's a cheesy show, but it's sooo entertaining. |
The new album is probably the album of the year. The solos on this one aren't as wanky.

That's good. Loomis has unbelievable technical skill, but his vibrato stinks and the solos usually don't have any sort of processing effect on it, like reverb or delay, which would take the edge off the high-gain tone. I'm sure that's what he's going for, but I don't exactly enjoy it. The kinds of guitar solos that I'd like to see come back aren't the kinds of solos that are coming back: the silly, dissonant, and shreddy ones that gave solos a bad name in the first place are the ones making a resurgence. I'd love to see some flashy melodic soloing for a change. |
I downloaded 4 of the Nevermore songs, and they all kick some serious metal arse. Not sure If I'd call them power metal though. Either way, I'm really digging what I've got. The guitar work and the drumming are both awesome. Their drummer sure can pull a nice double bass rip.
Moses- Wait for •••-••--•-- to decide that. |

You only say that because you haven't heard Red Sparowes. |

Moses- Wait for •••-••--•-- to decide that.
They fall under the power metal tag due to the vocalist style. But their guitar work is anything but traditional power metal, and they also don't use many, if any, symphonic elements. They take from power metal and death metal equally, I'd say. All the band's members cut their teeth in much more technically demanding bands, like the aforementioned Cannibal Corpse. And they were featured in GW's article on power metal a few months ago. |
Jake- Too true.
Kage- Downloads? And have you heard the new Nevermore? |
Cain- To me, one of the defining features of PM is the symphonic aspect, and also the keys. Gotta have the keys. Meh, if it was up to me, I'd just place them under the category if kewl.

I'll upload it for you, or send it on AIM if you're interested. They're kind of a post rock band with a heavy edge.
EDIT: Oh, and no I haven't. I still haven't ventured into your thread for some reason. :upset: |
If you have any questions about PM ask Steerpike.
Also I'd like it uploaded because AIM sucks on my computer when sharing. Could I find it on a P2P? |
Maybe, I've never looked, but they're somewhat obscure, so I don't know. I'll upload it, though.
