ITP is pretty awesome but not as consistent on song quality.

Thor 04-12-2010 09:38 PM

it also has the philosopher aka the best death song ever

Meatplow 04-12-2010 09:38 PM

how can bass be silly

if it gets heard at all

Tyler 04-12-2010 09:39 PM

Steve DiGiorgio can be pretty awful. I liked him when I was 17 or 18 because of how hard he can shred but he tends to sound awful on almost every album he plays on because he has no concept of the fact that he's playing in the rhythm section. There are exceptions but my point is yeah the bass is silly on ITP.

Thor 04-12-2010 09:39 PM

it's silly because of how ridiculously loud it is in the mix

digiorgio's technique is ridiculous though

Angmar 04-12-2010 09:41 PM

I like how he sounds on ITP.

Thor 04-12-2010 09:42 PM

i like it because his parts are easier to pick up and learn but at the same time it's way, way more distracting from the other parts than it needs to be

Deth 04-12-2010 09:51 PM

bass on ITP is awesome ******s

bass player opinion lol

Truth. I used to love Johan DeFarfalla from Opeth too, until I realized, oh **** he's not doing what bassists should be doing.

Deth 04-12-2010 09:54 PM

he has nice lines on To Bid You Farewell but other than that ya

i mean, not to start anything, but arguing about what instruments 'should' be doing seems dumb in this genre. vocals become percussion, drums take center stage etc etc

lim 04-12-2010 09:55 PM

no really into hipster death metal sory guys

I don't know why anybody would prefer SBG over Leprosy, honestly.

idk about vocals being percussion...

Chris Barnes? Frank Mullen?

witchxrapist 04-12-2010 10:05 PM

They're not hitting anything, they're just singing with a lot of rasp in a very deep voice.

That's a stretch of the term singing, but you get my point. It's more of a rattling of vocal chords with air than percussion, which would make it vocal regardless, because it's vocal.

Thor 04-12-2010 10:07 PM

i mean i guess literally yes but they're used in a much more percussive sense

pretty sure that was what he was going for

Deth 04-12-2010 10:10 PM

yeah I wasn't calling them a snare drum or anything

saying their generally more rhythmic than melodic

Xplisit 04-12-2010 10:10 PM

lol

Thor 04-12-2010 10:12 PM

guys my drum sticks hurt my vocal cords

witchxrapist 04-12-2010 10:13 PM
saying their generally more rhythmic than melodic
Deth 04-12-2010 10:14 PM

Thor 04-12-2010 10:14 PM

only varg does melodic screaming

Tyler 04-12-2010 10:14 PM

Nocturnus anyone?

Xplisit 04-12-2010 10:15 PM
I don't know why anybody would prefer SBG over Leprosy, honestly.
Probably has to do with not wanting to check out more than 2 Death albums

I'm satisfied with what I've heard and from what I've read Leprosy isn't much different

I guess as a non-bass player I just don't listen to bass

From what you've read? That's a great attitude to have.

Leprosy is stylistically like Scream Bloody Gore but its significantly better in every single way.

Xplisit 04-12-2010 10:18 PM

When you say that it's better, you're aware that it's an opinion right?

'Cause I mean you can't just say everything with an arrogant finality.

Thor 04-12-2010 10:18 PM

The production on Leprosy is also more simultaneously disgusting and clear than SBG

Deth 04-12-2010 10:18 PM

less satan though

Tyler 04-12-2010 10:19 PM
I listen to SBG and Human a lot, so whatev
Okay, that still doesn't explain why you wouldn't bother looking into what comes next.

Thor 04-12-2010 10:19 PM

only real advantage SBG has on Leprosy is the artwork

Xplisit 04-12-2010 10:20 PM

yeah seriously Leprosy couldnt possibly out-satan SBG

really? so the vocals are better on Leprosy too?

no wai

Deth 04-12-2010 10:21 PM

it ate everyone, stupid

Thor 04-12-2010 10:21 PM

well i mean yeah they are
